| r3gulark11-23-07, 01:59 PM | So, again I'm having trouble with coming up with a story arc. Let me sum up what's happened/what I want to happen. If you want to skip a lot of this, because you don't care too much about mechanics and stuff, skip a few lines until I say so. My 4 players have become vampires, gone into the woods and killed off a vampire who was working with the church to become human again. Their master sent them to do this because if they didn't, this vampire would become a threat to all vampire kind. The rest of the campaign, I'd like to involve their attempts in killing the god-king of the city, or to see if he actually exists. (The city is extremely holy... like Vivic from Morrowind, but less floating on water. The god-king has locked herself in a temple with nobody else, and has been in there for over 300 years, without being seen. She did have a son, who over the years the holy reign of power has continued) Anyways, they will also meet a coven of Vampires who want the PCs to stop working with their lord, and join them. They want this because the lord is breaking most of the vampire laws, like going into holy places (I have reasons why turning/rebuking and divine spells work, but "holy" things don't), and creating vampires who aren't the strongest of human kind. IF YOU SKIPPED, READ ON FROM HERE So, to meet this coven, the players have to enter a church, and find out, "Hey, we can't be hurt by 'holy' things!". My big problem here is how do I get them into a church. And because I've gotten help from you guys so many times before, helping me start off amazing campaign arcs, I'm coming to you again. I'd really appreciate if you would bounce some ideas my way. My only idea is to have a doctrine forcing all members to hunt vampires, but that would be a lot of people to fight, so I can't do that. PLEASE HELP, and thank you! |

| CryoSilver11-23-07, 02:11 PM | That's totally what my sister said! Great minds think alike! My sister tells me that I drive like it's Gran Turismo and that my ideas are stupid. |
| Space_Dragon11-23-07, 03:28 PM | My sister has a moustache and wears a football helmet. :P Cool campaign idea. I've long wanted to do a WOD style DND campaign, just to see how it works out. Are you using standard vampires, or varient ones? The dungeon connecting to the basement of the church is a great idea. |
| Kaede11-23-07, 05:44 PM | Another :cookie:... They are pushed in there by lycanthropes, who usually are in battle with vampires... Maybe they are a hunting party... Vampire Hunters Lycanthropes... too cliche? Just make any other make them go in there... another "Sun is coming... you don't have were to go... just a church" another "I need you to go in there and kill the cleric who was helping the vampire" |
| Talisman11-23-07, 07:42 PM | For whatever reason, the party is dungeon-crawling, when they realize "Hem, this room looks like a temple to [god's name]. Hey, this room is a temple to [god's name]!" For maximum effect, have them pursued by "unholy" monsters (incorporeal creatures, abominations hated by all the gods, whatever) that truly can't get in. |
| Khamya11-24-07, 02:29 PM | Doesn't have to be from below. If the setting has enough magic there could be a portal, or contingency spell that's triggered. An enemy unclear on how vampires work could deliberately send them to a nearby church thinking it will immobilize or imperil them and that any priests would be able to easily kill them. Faeries and pixies are very famous for getting people where they don't want to be. The trick is doing it without mind affecting abilities. that gets down to things like fog, the fact that darkvision is a touch inferior to regular vision (no color for instance) and the clever use of illusions. The border ethereal or plane of shadow both allow people to return to the material world and be a bit confused about where exactly they are. There could be someone they are desperately trying to keep out of the church who is trying desperately to get into it. Perhaps another vampire. This works best if they have a reason to keep this person alive. If you get them to the steps, it's just a bull-rush/overpower and the person plus at least one PC are indoors. |
