MY friend and i were thinking of running a 1 on 1 campaign, where i would be the DM and he would play a rogue type class. The whole thing would take place in the city of wake, where he would start as level 1 and fight his way up to become part for the thieves guild, and then later on down the road end up falling, and going to be an assassin.

During the event of him leveling he will be doing normal rogue things to help others in the city and be respected, also to hinder his reputation with the citizens of Wake. So hes going to be liked by some and hated by others.
He will be doing missions for the thieves once he proves himself which require stealing form the rich/poor, breaking into homes to find certain items or scrolls. Setting traps in houses to have a member of a certain family become ill, injured badly, or even be killed by the trap, set in a way that it looked like an accident. Also be running into conflict with the guards and other thieves in the city.

What i wanted to know was, has anyone ran a 1 on 1 campaign before and how well does it go.

Also just a question/idea that i was thinking of. Since we both like to DM and we cant both DM at the same time, is there a way that i can DM him and he can DM me. But on the same premise of what i said up there. I wouldn't be a rogue though i would be a fighter then rogue then street fighter...later on when i level of course. But eventually have them tie in together, OR while i am DM i can have his character as a NPC to play to interact with and vise/versa...

Not sure if it would work that is why i am asking.

Thanks hope for some good feed back

Solo games have been done many times. I highly recommend DMs doing so at least once, as it was a great boon to me in refining my DM craft. There are assorted threads on the subject. Here are two of thew bigger ones:

I ran a 1-on-1 campaign with a player that fought his way up to head the thieves guild of a city, actually. It was wonderful, because it permitted the player to do things that usually don't work very well with a party.

For your idea, just alternate. One session you DM, the other your friend DMs. Introducing the characters one to the other would be rather difficult. However, if you were to find a third person that was going to DM, then use those characters in that campaign.

I only have one other player in my area, so we alternate DMing. The DMPC of that adventure stays back and lets the other PC call the shots.

I've had a great deal of fun running solo games. Some of my best inspiration came from solo games with a player who was more concerned about story than dice. A lot of those NPCs that populated her adventures were memorable. Give it a whirl, what do you have to lose?
