OK, a fellow player and I were talking yesterday, and we realized that our DM is frustrated with the party not role playing, but as we look back there hasn't been that many opportunities for role playing in the campaign. As my friend and I noticed, it's hard to RP in a vacuum. Without things to interact with it's really hard to do that kind of interaction.

As I will (possibly) be taking over DMing some time, I Thought I would makke up a tool to provide little one to two liners that present a bit of realism, and an opportunity to role play for the characters. I thought I would see if anyone has some little "opportunities" to RP that they would share. Nothing so complex as a plot hook, just a little reminder that there are people around them, and that they can interact with them.

For example:

1) You move down Carin street, as directed, and as you are about to turn left onto Baker's Alley, a little boy comes up to [pick random player character] and says "Please sir, do you have any food?"

2) Standing outside the armorer's shop, you hear across the square "Stop! Thief!" and a dirty urchin runs past you, to the street beyond. Second later a [describe police type character] comes huffing up to you. "Did you see a sneak pass by here? *huph* *gasp* *Wheeze*"

3) That night you are invited to a banquet and seated beside at one of the lower tables in the Earl's court. The lady across from you turns to you and asks, "Pardon me, sir, I hear you have just come from the [insert appropriate direction], how did you find the roads on the way here?"

4) The bard, merrily playing her lute, bouncing daintily from table to table trips over your incredibly large tankard and slams into your table knocking over all your refreshments. She finshes her fall ending horizontally on your laps. She glances up to [random player] with her deep brown eyes as her cheecks begin to turn red.

5) As you are walking in the market place, you see a man with dirt brown skin, much like an indian in todays world, come up to you. he speaks in an outrageous indian accent "Sir, would you like to buy a cloak? I have the finest cloaks, cloaks of cloth, cloaks of daggers, cloaks of lies, and cloaks of uranium." of course, leave the cloak of uranium out in a real camapgin.

6) I wont get graphic, but depending on the maturity, it can really bring out good roleplaying to put in a rape in an ally. Brought out great roleplaying from the usually bad RP good optimizing PC.

7) When the PCs enter a tavern/bakery/general store, the owner and his wife are having a big fight over money etc.

8) An old beggar on the street corner tugs at the pants-leg of a PC and says, "sonny? A few coppers for a good story?"

9) The town guards stop the PCs on the street and show wanted posters for theives that look like (or are) the PCs.

10) A young woman is crying out on the front steps of the local library. (Was she turned away for some reason? Did she see something terrible? Did something in a book upset her?)
