| AlphaSquirell09-15-05, 07:13 PM | Our group has some sort of mental problem with the deck of many things. (I mean, the DM that we had before it shifted to my turn used to have us draw from the deck whenever he talked to us, just to see what WOULD happen, and it got rather annoying) So, because of his affection for the "Deck of Many Things", it slowly spread to the group. Whereas I see lots of problems, he sees possibilities! (as do the other players...) So, I'm going to create a new and improved, "Deck of Even More Things" to throw at my PCs. Some of the effects will be humerous, but not ALL of them will. (I would like to make this one possibly playable, even though it would take a hint of insanity to do so) If you add an affect, you can name a specific card if you want to, but I personally don't care. I'm going to do (like a card for ca$h that has to be the king of diamonds, or one that gives gardening tools that is the 2 of spades) To start off: 1. "Despised" - Every creature within 1 mile of your position instantly hates you, and will do anything possible to attack you. (beings who "Despise" someone have a built in "radar" to find their target) 2. "Cursed" - Every item you have is immediately affected by a weak curse. No individual item is cursed enough to cause harm, but you must remove all of your equipment for the curse to go away. (the DM decides the curse) 3. "Colorblind" - You immediately lose all ability to see color. 4. "Lifeline" - Someone you were once kind too becomes linked to you, mentally. Whenever you are about to die (let the DM decide when), this someone teleports in, and rescues you. (available only to Good or Neutral characters) 5. "Death by Magic Missle" - You are immediately pummeled by 1,000 Magic Missiles that bypass all damage reduction and spell resistance. If your character is killed, you get to roll 5d6 (drop lowest 2) or gain an extra 2 points to recreate your character, to compensate for the laughter that will be aimed at you when you die. 6. "Journey to the Center of the Earth" - A bottomless hole appears beneath you. Taking falling damage as your DM sees fit... 7. "Avenger" - A group of 1d6+1 CG rangers (1 level less than 1/2 your current level) follows you arround, convinced you were someone their dieing leader told them to protect, who they will protect at ALL costs. (note, they aren't quite so intelligent, so the DM gets to role-play them and what there limited intelligence means) 8. "Holy ....." - You are attacked by a Vampiric Great Wyrm Red Dragon. If you are indoors or underground, it busts through the walls/ground to find you. 9. "Ravage" - 2d6+4 sorcerers appear in front of you, and cast Summon Monster V, and then dissappear. They use Summon Monster V to summon 1d4+1 Fiendish Dire Weasels each, which then proceed to attack you. |
| OctoberRaven09-15-05, 07:32 PM | "Angel's Judgement"- Any non-LG character who draws this card is run through by a celestial sword. Any LG character who draws this gains a +5 vorpal sword that deals Lawful, Good, and Magic damage. |
| spectralphoenix09-15-05, 08:48 PM | Infinite Recursion: You are transported back in time to the point just before you decided to draw the card. The card does not disappear from the deck and is still on top. |
| Mystyc09-15-05, 10:23 PM | 12. "Wild Skills" - You take a -3 on all skill checks, permanently. However, you also roll a d6 along with the d20, which is added to your check. 13. "Uncertain Talents" - Choose a feat you have and a feat you do not have, but that you meet the prerequisites for. At the beginning of each day, roll d%. On a 01-50, the feat you have becomes the feat you don't have for the rest of the day. 14. "Master of Swords" - You immediately gain a level of the Fighter class. You gain all benefits of this level and it stacks with any other Fighter levels you may have, but it does not affect your experience total or your effective character level for the purpose of gaining further experience. |
| OctoberRaven09-15-05, 10:39 PM | "Vicious Torment"- Character is sent to the Infinite Layers of the Abyss for d6 days, returning that many years older, and severely flayed. Permanent d4 loss to ALL abilities. |
| PKemisti09-15-05, 11:12 PM | "Angel's Judgement"- Any non-LG character who draws this card is run through by a celestial sword. Any LG character who draws this gains a +5 vorpal sword that deals Lawful, Good, and Magic damage. Rather harsh, most angels probably don't go around slaughtering Neutral Good people. Why not give the sword to people who are Good or Neutral on moral axis but have the sword keep permanent Geas/Quest on them as long as the sword is in their possession, forcing them to act in Lawful Good manner. For additional hilarity, curse the sword so that player can't just throw it away. "Curse of Years" - the character instantly ages 1d4 agegroups (Young -> Middle Age -> Old -> Venerable) to the minimium required age for that group. This effect is non-magical and character is threated exactly if he had gained that age normally, except that he does not gain the mental ability score increases. "Evermorphing Document" - As the character draws this card, it appears to be a blank card with no effect. However, this card can morph to take appearence of any document character wishes, imitating it so fully that it is totally indistinguisable from the orginal document. If the character does not know everything about the document (Such as exact shape of the seal, invisble magical marks or watermarking), the card steals knowledge from the mind of nearby beings when presented. In this case there is 5% change per turn of anyone studying the document to notice it morphing to his expections |
| Rhomphaia09-15-05, 11:37 PM | Infinite Recursion: You are transported back in time to the point just before you decided to draw the card. The card does not disappear from the deck and is still on top. I got one thing to say... Abso-fricking-lutely MEAN. Anyway... "Fortune's Favorite"- If you chose to draw more than one card, the rest of your draws for this set of draws can only be beneficial effects. If an effect is malignant in nature, then the card is replaced randomly in the deck and a new one is drawn. Repeat until your original set of draws has resulted in all beneficial effects. "Fortune's Fool"- If you chose to draw more than one card, the rest of your draws for this set of draws can only be malignant effects. If an effect is beneficial in nature, then the card is replaced randomly in the deck and a new one is drawn. Repeat until your original set of draws has resulted in all malignant effects. "Lottery"- When you draw this card, all other stated draws are revoked. Replace this card and shuffle the deck. Draw cards until the 'Lottery' card comes up again. All cards drawn take effect immediately upon drawing the 'Lottery' card a second time. "Wonder"- One random effect (as per Rod of Wonder) takes place per stated draw, even draws already made in this set of stated draws. All further stated draws are revoked. "Erotic Fantasy"- The drawer of this card immediately takes on all aspects, including race, gender and age, but not class or level, of the nearest person's choosing that reflects their 'adult' fantasy. |
| Loren Pechtel09-16-05, 12:25 AM | "Jonny Appleseed"--For every 10' that the character walks on soil of adequate depth a fruit tree will be planted. Once he moves from that location it will sprout and over the next hour it will magically grow to what is normal for a 10 year old tree of it's type. From that point on it is an ordinary tree, not magical in any way. Should a character be riding a land-based mount the effect will apply to the mount instead so long as the mount is ridden. Should the character move without taking steps there will be no effect. (Flying, riding in a sled or chariot, riding on a tenser's floating disk etc.) The trees will not grow with a force sufficient to damage any reasonably strong enclosure but they will displace light things. (Walk across a room with a dirt floor--the tree won't damage a wooden roof but a thatch roof would be lifted.) Should the effect be "successfully" dispelled (caster level 20) it will actually only add a 24-hour delay to the sprouting, the trees will still be planted. This may be repeated any number of times but each additional day of delay increases the caster level by 5. The type of trees planted will be random fruit trees found in the area, or the best that can be done in an environment where there are no suitable trees. "??" The subject never needs to eat, drink or breathe ever again. While they are capable of eating/drinking/breathing it will have no effect--which means potions will be ineffective. |

You might want to put a duration on this one cause it's really that nasty... |
| OctoberRaven09-16-05, 11:30 AM | "Dubya"- Appears to have no effect, but suddenly an incompetant warmonger LE Aristocrat comes to power in the player's home country. |
| Rhomphaia09-16-05, 11:53 AM | "Dubya"- Appears to have no effect, but suddenly an incompetant warmonger LE Aristocrat comes to power in the player's home country. Your hook is rusty and your bait is crap. We prefer live worms in this pond. Thanks for trolling. |
| TheErsatzFacsimileOfMe09-16-05, 12:01 PM | "Dubya"- Appears to have no effect, but suddenly an incompetant warmonger LE Aristocrat comes to power in the player's home country. As a Texan...I can't help but laugh. |
| Limit09-16-05, 12:07 PM | "Take a Walk" - You are immediately and harmlessly teleported to the nearest dock anywhere in the world. If there are no docks in the world, the card has no affect. "Get Out" - You may hold this card in your posession indefinately. Any time that your are imprisoned, you may use this card to cast freedom on yourself as cast by a level 20 wizard. The card is immediately destroyed when used. |
| OctoberRaven09-16-05, 02:08 PM | Your hook is rusty and your bait is crap. We prefer live worms in this pond. Thanks for trolling. Aww...poor little conservative got his feelings hurt... "Disco Fever"- Casts Otto's Irresistable Dance on whoever draws this card (caster level 35th) |
| TheErsatzFacsimileOfMe09-16-05, 02:19 PM | "Hot for Teacher" - Any person serving as an apprentice or under a mentor of any sort becomes strangely, romantically attracted to them despite any difficulties which would normally occur. (i.e. Mentor = Orc, PC = Dwarf) A PC which does not meet the requirements, is unaffected by this card. "Texas Hold'em" - Upon drawing this card a Gnome wearing a green visor appears and deals you and all other persons within 20ft two cards face down, and 5 face up in the center of the group. PCs are affected by their own 2 cards and all PCs are affected by the five in the middle. :smirk: |
| JFargo09-16-05, 02:39 PM | "Rocks Fall. Everybody Dies" - Because the original Deck of Many Things was very much a campaign ender... |
| l33t Shinobi09-16-05, 03:25 PM | "face of horror" take a penalty equal to your charisma on all CHA checks except intimidate, which gets a bonus equal to 1/2 your CHA. more later |
| Doopliss09-16-05, 03:52 PM | Munchkin: 1d8 Halfling Gestalt Druids/Oriental Adventures Ninjas with levels equal to the wisher's character level appear and attack immediately. Hilarity ensues. Great for teaching your powergamer a lesson. ;) |
| ReverendCow09-16-05, 07:27 PM | "Waist-ed Effort" The characters torso turns 180 degrees on their waist and stays that way until common curse-removal magic is applied. Basically, they can look down and see their butt-cheeks. The character takes -15 on all reasonably affected checks. |
| Kalli09-16-05, 07:37 PM | "Lodestone of Egress" -- Your character is always aware of the nearest exit and the route to it. This ability is suppressed in anti-magic fields and by a successful Dispel Magic (DC 20, suppressed for 1 day; d6 additional hours for every 5 points by which the caster passes the DC). Note that this does not make the character aware of any traps that may lay along the way, merely the path to the exit. |
| spectralphoenix09-17-05, 07:40 PM | Soundtrack - Your character gains a soundtrack that plays background music whenever he does anything. He gets a -5 to all move silently checks, but is is always under the effect of the "inspire courage" bardic music. |
| Aneul09-17-05, 08:08 PM | -to go with soundtrack- "Cinamatic Scenery": Everyone within a fifty foot radius circle centered on the character (character included) is subject to an illusion which causes landscape to take on an epic and inspireing flavor. While the nature of the land is not physicaly changed by this effect, and the PCs precieved land's features to be no different from the actual thing, its every detail is cosmeticaly altered to apear more worthy of a heroic scene. Muddy brooks become crystal clear streams flowing over beds of ancient stone, mountains take on magestic purple hues, sunsets and sunrises are fantasticaly striking, forests of unassuming scrub trees apear to be stands of ancient oaks. Anyone effected by this change suffers a -5 to spot checks, but gains a +2 moral bonus to saving throws and attack roles. At the DM's descresion, this effect may also apply to life forms within the sphere of effect as well. Minor villians become far more loathsome and aweful to look on, while Archvillians apear darkly regal and imposing. Heros look vastly more gallant and heroic, and barmaids are invariably dazzleingly beautiful half elven girls. Under these circumestances, all good aligned or neutral aligned persons gaina circumstantial +2 to charisma, while all evil aligned persons recieve a -2. |
| ReverendCow09-17-05, 08:45 PM | "Cheese or Death." The character has a 50/50 chance of either being killed outright, or turned into a inanimate statue resembling their true form, but entirely made of cheese. "Not a Morning Person" The character is afflicted with a malady akin to narcolepsy. For every five minutes of activity, the character must make a DC 15 Fort save or fall asleep. "Pants" For every hour spent in crowded areas, the character must make a DC 15 will save or have their pants fall down. Belts provide a -2 to the DC of this check. |
| Loren Pechtel09-18-05, 12:07 AM | Nasty. Very very nasty. You might want to put a duration on this one cause it's really that nasty... I don't see what's so terribly nasty about it? You have fruit trees springing up behind you but they don't interfere with you. Yes, you leave trees in any unpaved road you walk down but people will probably be happy to chop them down for the firewood. The trees won't block dungeon passages or the like--dungeon floors rarely have enough dirt for a tree. It would be a good idea to stay out of dirt-floor buildings. Basically you are very trackable but have a guaranteed source of food (albeit not a balanced diet). |
| Loren Pechtel09-18-05, 12:13 AM | "Hot for Teacher" - Any person serving as an apprentice or under a mentor of any sort becomes strangely, romantically attracted to them despite any difficulties which would normally occur. (i.e. Mentor = Orc, PC = Dwarf) A PC which does not meet the requirements, is unaffected by this card. No--a PC who doesn't meet the requirements experiences no immediate effect. Should they take on an apprentice of any sort the apprentice falls for them. |
