| MasonMurdoc03-03-07, 02:57 PM | An idea popped into my head, an I thought I could get a few giggles. I put it in this part because DMs could use it if there after a cheap laugh and are short on ideas. Also explain how they get to finding out about the BBEG and his motivations. I'll start off 1)The PCs meet a diabolical genious who is for some reason after there blood. After a few battles with him/her and his/her highly advance constructs, he/she decides to take over a continant or two. When it comes down to the final confrontation, it turns out that at least one of the PCs bullied him/her at school. Who's next :) |
| unfortunate_crow03-03-07, 03:04 PM | 2) The BBEG is trying to construct a massive machine which he saw in a dream. Upon completion, the gigantic mechanical goliath dispenses slurpees. |
| Whisper_Swiftblade03-03-07, 03:11 PM | the bbeg is sick of people interupting his sleep, and will destroy countless masses to prevent it. |
| ElIsRa03-03-07, 03:41 PM | First off, I have to comment on Unfortunate Crow's sig. 92 is kind of weak for number of characters killed in Shadowrun don't you think? When I was running a Shadowrun campaign, I was killing off one or two characters a week, and I was trying *NOT* to. Although 4 TPKs in a row is definitely worth note. That said.... The BBEG is solve global warming... by killing off everyone on the planet. The BBEG actually thinks *he* is the hero adventurer who is trying to stop you from all the senseless slaughtering of helpless kobols and goblins. The BBEG has a crush on one of the PCs and is just trying to show her how *cool* he is. The BBEG has recently discovered that everything he knows is actually just some sort of game that revolves around four random people and is now just trying to make his life somehow meaningful. |
| Duke_of_Shards03-03-07, 05:39 PM | X) The BBEG for most of his life believed gnomes didn't exist, and made a bet with his friend that they aren't real. Soon afterwards, he discovered that gnomes do in fact exist... So he sent out his evil minions to wipe out the species so he could win the 10 gold bet. |
| CaoSlayer03-03-07, 05:47 PM | Dragonlance + planescape: A zealot mercykiller wants to exterminate the kender race. |
| UndeadMouse03-03-07, 05:49 PM | 10: the BBEG doesn't like how people smell :yuck: |
| tharivol26603-03-07, 05:54 PM | 11) the bbeg didnt get enough hugs as a child and is now out to kill everyone who had a better childhood then him |
| Duke_of_Shards03-03-07, 05:59 PM | the bbeg is sick of people interupting his sleep, and will destroy countless masses to prevent it. That's not so bad actually, you could have a completely insane villain who hates being interrupted in his sleep or in his studies, and whose tower lies very close to a recently-built village. The superstitious villagers often try to drive him out of the area, forcing him to leave his study in order to fireball them to death... so he eventually decides to destroy all the towns in the nearby area. Not good for a BBEG, but decent for a short side-adventure. |
| ElIsRa03-03-07, 06:03 PM | Dragonlance + planescape: A zealot mercykiller wants to exterminate the kender race. And how is that evil again? ^_^ |
| unfortunate_crow03-03-07, 06:15 PM | First off, I have to comment on Unfortunate Crow's sig. 92 is kind of weak for number of characters killed in Shadowrun don't you think? When I was running a Shadowrun campaign, I was killing off one or two characters a week, and I was trying *NOT* to. Although 4 TPKs in a row is definitely worth note. To be fair, that is isn't incapacitations where the player woke up in a clinic or anything (which come to think of it, didn't happen too often). I only count the real deaths =) But we only played once a month too.... |
| twad03-03-07, 06:36 PM | The BBEG has recently discovered that everything he knows is actually just some sort of game that revolves around four random people and is now just trying to make his life somehow meaningful. - The BBEG discover he is part of a prophecy where four persons will murder him to change the world. Not knowing exactly what it means (lets say he assume that if he is killed, the world goes boom) he try to prevent that from happening. |
| Drausktanchache03-03-07, 07:19 PM | The bbeg happens to just be a cousin of a twice removed grandfather of a long-lost brother of one of the PCs father, and is told that he is heir to the exact same thing the PC is...sadly they both find out, it is just a little farm outside a thorp, who wants that? |
| YamiSouru03-03-07, 07:33 PM | A Sorceror believes that he was the only person born to the correct gender and plans on makeing a spell to change the gender of everything in the world. OR A wizard wants to be a sorceror so much that he kidnaps a circus performer thinking he is a sorceror when in fact he is just a expert with max ranks in sleight of hand. |
| Zorminster03-03-07, 08:25 PM | The BBEG (well, side quest version) has terribly low self esteem (add to irony by making him INCREDIBLY CHARISMATIC) and wants to make a fool of everyone. This is actually triggered by something my DM said last night "You go down the ladder, and it drops you onto the floor"-- now, i'm a little sick right now and it was sorta late so i was a little goofy... this triggered me to think about a ladder that was created for the sole purpose of makikng people look foolish. The ladder is cut about 5' from the ground, and again at about 12'. There is a hinge between the base section and the 5-12' section. As the players reach that section, the phsyics of how they will grab the ladder cause it to rotate backwards, dumping them on the floor. This particular Evil Guy would be well fit by an esscentric gnome illusionist. Lots of traps to cause embarassment, not much REAL danger...from the traps. The real danger should come from them being startled, confused, or otherwise out of control- diving out windows, falling off balconies, etc should be the primary danger to adventurers as they proceed through the dungeon. |
| Prator_the_Legendary03-03-07, 10:34 PM | The BBEG, raised underground, was taught at a very young age that the sky was red. Since he came to the surface, he has become outraged to learn that it is blue, and is intent on destorying the world in order to return the sky to its true color. The BBEG wants to destroy all the world's vegetables, along with all liver, tomatoes, and chicken pot pies. The BBEG worships the god of pies. He seeks to conquer the world in the name of the Sacred Pastry. The female BBEG is working for Orcus, who has promised to buy her a pony if she conquers Celestia. The BBEG, a former insurance salesman, goes around killing thousands of people to persuade them of the value of Life and Health policies. The BBEG wants to possess all the world's croissants. Therefore, he must conquer all the world's bakeries. The BBEG is playing a tabletop RPG, and there's a contest on where you can get a special prize (+99 sword of 1337/l/355!) for killing a thousand heroes. He just doesn't realize that means IG heroes. |
| zombieoverlord03-04-07, 01:59 AM | The BBEG has a rare disease that makes him jump up and down and dance the polka every time a cat eats the scale of a dragon that was born between 3:55 and 4:00 pm on the 4th of July during a hailstorm. (:cookie: anyone?) He of couse feels utterly ridiculous, and decides to take it out on the world. |
| MortalPlague03-04-07, 02:25 AM | - The BBEG discover he is part of a prophecy where four persons will murder him to change the world. Not knowing exactly what it means (lets say he assume that if he is killed, the world goes boom) he try to prevent that from happening. I really like that idea, and I think I'm going to use it in a serious context. The guy is evil merely because a prophecy proclaims his demise; to stop it, he gathers defenses and powerful people and items, and attempts to wipe out any potential threats to his well-being. There are numerous examples of this in history; I think there was a Roman Emperor whose fortune told him that he would die in a particular day at a given hour? The thought of how harried a BBEG with this motivation would become is quite interesting. :) |
| bobothechimp03-04-07, 06:44 AM | People haven't been counting, so I'll just guess. 21) BBEG is madly in love with the princess of the kingdom the party is currently in. |
| CaoSlayer03-04-07, 06:59 AM | A Sorceror believes that he was the only person born to the correct gender and plans on makeing a spell to change the gender of everything in the world. Variation: An ugly uncharismatic half-orc sorcerer wants to turn all the males in the world into females so he can be the only man in earth and pick all the girls. |
| ArchonJohn03-04-07, 07:09 AM | Zarzapul told them to *insert bad thing here* ^Ultimate motivation^ |
| tharivol26603-04-07, 10:01 AM | the bbeg is actually a girl and only causes trouble when pmsing. |
| Voran03-04-07, 10:29 AM | BBEG Motivations: * His mom is making him do it. "You're never going to amount to anything! At your age your father had already killed a Paladin!" * His spouse is making him do it. "We need more room! My mother is going to come live with us!" |
| Type2Demon03-04-07, 10:35 AM | The BBEG LOVES the taste of humans and just can't get enough "Long Pig" cusine. The BBEG is angry at his patron deity for ignoring him and is just trying to get the god's attention by causing mass devestation. The BBEG has decided that the best way to ensure that good people don't stray from the path of righteousness and loose their place in heaven is to to send them to heaven (kill them) before they have had time to sin. |
| Grognor03-04-07, 10:57 AM | 36. The BBEG is a druid, whose vegetable garden has been trampled, and since they doesn't know who did it, they decide to take out their frustration on the rest of the sentient world. Turns out, it was the animal companion, and they didn't want to make master angry, because then they wouldn't get a treat for that day. 37. The BBEG wants retribution for the movie The Breakfast Club. Olidammara knows that I do. 38. The BBEG's mom asks him to "Go down to the store and puchase some goat milk." A botched listen check on his behalf perverts this to "Go out into the world and destroy man and his ilk." |
| Goreg Skullcrusher03-04-07, 12:08 PM | 38. The BBEG's mom asks him to "Go down to the store and puchase some goat milk." A botched listen check on his behalf perverts this to "Go out into the world and destroy man and his ilk." :D 39. The BBEG has found an artifact of immense power that can potentially make him the most powerful man in the world. However, the instructions manual that comes with it is far too complex, and so he takes his inadequacies out on everyone else by enslaving the world somehow. |
| Fireclave03-04-07, 02:30 PM | :D 39. The BBEG has found an artifact of immense power that can potentially make him the most powerful man in the world. However, the instructions manual that comes with it is far too complex, and so he takes his inadequacies out on everyone else by enslaving the world somehow. Yes. Getting the VCR to stop blinking 12:00 is a godly feat indeed :P |
| Doleth03-04-07, 03:09 PM | 40. The BBEG is actually the little brother/sister of one of the PC and he is just out to enslave all the sentient being of the multiver to ****-off his sibling. 41. The BBEG was just really bored on a rainy sunday and decide to destroy the world. 42. A CN character dare the BBEG to do something BBEG-ish. 43. The BBEG suffer from a rare handicap that force him to finish all his sentence by an evil laugh followed by a thunderstorm. He is just trying to make the world a better place, but because of this every would-be adventurer try to thwart his plan to bring the local children to a big picnic, thinking that he want to sacrifice them to some sort of demonlord. |
| Grognor03-04-07, 05:03 PM | 44. The BBEG recently met a very cute, very shy sorceress. She gave him her scrying location so that they could talk for a bit. When the BBEG dialed up the location on the mirror, however, it turned out to be the local garrison's locker room. And it was shower time. Now, the BBEG swears revenge on the woman, whose name turned out to be a pseudonym, and destroys the populace until he finds her. |
| Amon_WinterfallIV03-04-07, 05:47 PM | 45. The BBEG has found a magic chess set or something, where he gets to move a bunch of pieces and control RL monsters like dragons or demons and such, and board seems to play the other side on its own. He is attempting to win the game against the board, unaware that this would mean world conquest. 46. The BBEG, having recieved hundreds of slivers while serving as a carpenters apprentice, is out to eliminate all woods, trees, and lumber products, so that no one will ever get slivers again. He makes a deal with Dispater, the lord of Iron... 47. Four powerful (epic?) evil characters bet a massive fortune against each other to see who can control a world first. Two of them vie for control over the Prime Material. 48. The BBEG litterally can not see nor interact with other living things. Unable to cope with this isolation, he begins destroying buildings, forests, and everything he can find, simply because it's all he can do. |
| Slightly_Unscrewed03-04-07, 07:00 PM | The BBEG has a rare disease that makes him jump up and down and dance the polka every time a cat eats the scale of a dragon that was born between 3:55 and 4:00 pm on the 4th of July during a hailstorm. (:cookie: anyone?) He of couse feels utterly ridiculous, and decides to take it out on the world. An episode of loony toons (Forget the exact name) With Daffy and Porky? |
| twad03-04-07, 07:04 PM | 43. The BBEG suffer from a rare handicap that force him to finish all his sentence by an evil laugh followed by a thunderstorm. Imagine that the "BBEG" is a nun! |
| zombieoverlord03-04-07, 07:57 PM | An episode of loony toons (Forget the exact name) With Daffy and Porky? Correct, I can't remember the name either.:cookie: |
| Richmud03-04-07, 08:56 PM | 48. The BBEG litterally can not see nor interact with other living things. Unable to cope with this isolation, he begins destroying buildings, forests, and everything he can find, simply because it's all he can do. Oddly enough there is actually a disease in the book of vile darkness that makes you incapable of seeing the living |
