TwiddleStootch 04-09-07, 07:46 PM	EDIT- Please excuse the spelling error in the title, it should read: 1001 Awesome Rivals Ok, so we've all seen threads for cool Characters, and cool Villains, but how about something in between? Here is a thread to post cool Rival NPCs for your PCs. By Rivals, I mean NPCs who are, basically, competition in the Adventuring business. They beat you to the loots, get the glory... and the girl!!! Etc... Assuming a good/neutral PC party, the Rivals should also be good/neutral. It can be a single rival or a Rival party, but make 'em someone(s) the PCs greatly dislike, but not the point of wanting to kill them, and maybe even enjoy facing off against. I'll go first: 1) Durt and Voolron, Half-Ord Barbarian and Halfling Wizard. Alignments: Durt is True Neutral and Voolron is Lawful neutral. Voolron is an Enchanter, whose one goal in life is to research more powerful magics! Durt is a rather dumb Half-Ord Barbarian who, for some unknown reason, has become totally attached to Voolron (in the emotional sense). Voolron, being a researcher, keeps Durt around for two reason, even though he hates spending time with someone who is so dumb: First, he needs the muscle. Durt smashes stuff, it is a useful talent. Second, Durt is, so far, the only sentient being Voolron has found who will allow him to test his spells on, repeatedly. So Durt works as a Bodyguard/Guinea-Pig :D How are they Rivals to a party of PCs? Well, magic research is not cheap, so Durt and Voolron will go to great lengths for gold. So they will do whatever they can to beat the PCs to the loot, which is bound to get annoying, especially when the PCs find the treasure vault of the dungeon empty, save a note reading "This treasure has been acquired to fund the on-going Arcane research of Voolron, Master Enchanter. Thank you." Ok, whose next :D
Karish 04-09-07, 07:53 PM	Alek and Riza. Both CN lvl 1 Warlocks (actual game) Alek is a more chaotic emo type. He works out of revenge, but still has hold to his own qualms; killing children or people who cannot fight, enslaving, and torture, that whole bit. Riza is more Chaotic Insane, or Chaotic Sugar-High. She's out for gold, glory, and power. She won't go to the extents of an evil person, but she seems like if she was more mentally stable she would be CE. These two are on the same party. They are constantly arguing over who has the best specialization (Alek being a type to mix his eldritch blasts with invocations to make him an expert with a punching dagger mixed with eldritch might, Riza focusing more on her dark powers themselves, finsing melee to be barbaric and acting almost wizard-like in concearns of battle: Stay away and blow them up). They compete over who is more capable in other fields, as well; Alek is a better intimidator, Riza bluffs better, etc. However, their main objective as rivals; They both want to kill the same man, each for their own reasons, and both want to make it personal. Alek's home was wiped out, and his lover killed in his arms. Riza is his daughter who was the subject of his more... carnal thoughts after her mother killed herself. The fun has been going up until lvl 5 so far.
Holy_Beholder 04-09-07, 07:59 PM	Tekail. He shows up in many games. He is always more powerful than the players, but has an unsteady group. The players track down a bandit, and Tekail knocks them all down from behind and kills the bandit while they are lying prone on the ground, weighted nets over them. He then saves one of the PC's characters younger(this is a 30 yr old human pc, so adult) sisters. The PC's meet him later after he has courted her for a while. Talk about a slap to the face. This guy is a thorn in the side of the players, but they don't want to do anything due to the rare incidents he actually helps out. Like the classic, they drop smoke bomb and escape with players, then duels the BBEG to buy them time, loses, then players take out BBEG. He is a really well developed character by now too.
