Below him was the courtyard, and on the other side was another building, also about 40 feet high. The courtyard was 60 feet wide. He threw his grappling hook over to the roof of the building across the coutyard. And then tried to swing across the coutyard from the wall to the other building. Crash. The most perfect Wiley Coyote moment I have ever come across. 2) A gnome character of mine made a roller sled, and then tried to use a decantless of endless water, on maximum force, as if it were a rocket engine. 3) When that worked, he got cocky, so he made roller skates and tried to use the decanter as a rocket backpack. This worked much less well. 4) Same gnome, set up a back pack that was rigged so the decanter would fire water straight up into the air. Then, over his head, he had this sort of propeler like thing rigged. The idea was that the water would shoot up, hit the propeller, cause the propeller to spin, and shower everything in a 30 foot radius around him with water. He had a ring of freedom of action so he wouldn't be impeded by the water spraying all around him. He used this both to anoy, slow down, and impede his enemies. It was also an effective method of detecting invisibility. 5) Setting of any sort of explosion, and then having the DM describe the bad guy as having all of his fur/feathers gett blown off. |
| MacrossSD06-14-07, 06:57 PM | 6)This one's sorta a Looney Tunes moment, if you look at it from the right angle. In the first campaign I'd DM'd, the players were in Saxon England. They had killed an undead monster made from a Viking Chieftain, and one of the PCs took the villain's skull. Little did he know that the spirit of the baddie still lurked inside the skull and was going to take control of anyone possessing him without any warning.... Well, the PCs rested for the night, and sure enough, the character was possessed by the undead Viking. One of the the players decided that the best thing to do would be to knock the possessed character flat on his ass and unconcious. So the character swings with the blunt end of her spear (it was a male player playing a female character). The player rolled a crit. I asked him to confirm, as normal. He rolls another crit. I asked him to confirm again. He rolled a third crit. Confirm. A fourth. A fifth. A sixth. By this time, I said -- stop, by now, you've septupled the damage -- even a red dragon would be unconscious. Every time I think of that situation, I can't help but bring to mind Yosemite Sam with a broken baseball bat and an unconscious horse -- "When Ah says 'woah,' Ah means 'woah!'":D |
| Crystal Monk06-16-07, 10:55 AM | 7: in a long-running RoleMaster game, one of the players dropped a house on an undead dragon. it was one of those "small thing turns into a house" items, like Daern's Instant Fortress (DMG p.254), and the dragon was at the bottom of a chasm, so it was just a matter of throwing the house over the chasm and saying the command word to make it large. now, two things make this more of a Looney Tunes moment: one, the player who had the house is a physicist, and thus could calculate just how much damage dropping a house on something from several hundred feet up would do. it's not pretty - there aren't enough hit points or crit tables in the world to describe that kind of damage. two, the command word to turn the house big? "Catch." |
| navar10006-16-07, 11:00 AM | 8) A gremlin gets the best of bug bunny on an airplane. I used to not like this cartoon, but after awhile it started to get to me that bugs bunny always "wins". I especially began not liking it at the expense of Daffy Duck. However, there is this one cartoon where bugs bunny doesn't "win". Note: This is not the famous "Gremlins from the Kremlin". Edit: Oops: You meant actual in game moments, not "bugs bunny". That's what I get for just reading the thread title and not the thread. :) 8a) The rogue opened a door and saw a huge diamond sitting on a pedestal. There were no guards in the room. He was by himself. With player admitted greed he ran into the room and grabbed the diamond. The ceiling gave way and clobbered him to death's door. |
| Shiftkitty06-16-07, 05:48 PM | Two PC game, played by brothers who had a habit of annoying each other with in-game insults. Made for great characters, BUUUUUUUUT... Stormy the Elf and Uffy the Wizard were locked in a cell awaiting the mindflayers that they had been sold to. The Uff was "magic dead" at the moment, but was trying to pull the cell door off. Stormy, being a fighter, might have had a better chance, but he had decided that, while Uffy was at the door, he was going to go through Uffy's outer-robe pockets for some money that the Uff owed him. What he found was Uffy's wish ring. They thought they had used the last charge in the previous game, but Stormy detected a faint magic aura from it. There was still one charge left! First a little backstory: Stormy has been using stinging one-liners on Uffy for the whole dungeon. Uffy is pretty honked off at Stormy, and his continued snippy little innuendoes even as they were being dragged unceremoniously to the cell have pushed Uffy to the brink. His temper is frayed, to say the least. So Stormy, having found the ring, decides to let Uffy strain himself for a little bit more. Then he said something, can't recall what, that ticked Uffy off so bad that he gave up on the door and declared he was going to beat the sh*t out of Stormy. He picked up the elf by his collars, and here's where Stormy should have explained his plan. Instead, all he said was "I wish Uffy was a whirlwind of fists with the slamming power of a huge sledgehammer!" What happened next was carnage it all its raging glory. THE PLAN: It sort of worked. The plan was to turn Uffy into a machine of pummeling flesh that could not only break through the door, but could dispatch the guards outside. Had he explained this to Uffy first, the wizard might have reined his temper in a little. Instead, the guards rushed in trying to subdue Uffy and preserve the structural integrity of the other prisoner, who had already been paid for, after all. Uffy beat the living daylights out of whatever got close, and when the spell wore off, what snuck out of the cell was a wizard carrying what looked like a sizeable pile of hamburger in the vague shape of an elf. |
| High Octane06-16-07, 06:09 PM | I did have a real life Bugs Bunny Moment. I managed to do the "Is not!" "Are too!" "Is not!" "Are too!" "Is not!" "Are too!" "Is not!" "Are too!" "Is not!" "Are too!" "Are Too!" "Is not" "AHA!!" "Aw damn it!" on one of my friends. Not kidding, she actually went for it seriously. |
