Curses, always fun but enough with the tired old -x to attack or 50% chance to lose action stuff. Boooooring!

Come up with some real player annoyances

1. The "tourette's syndrome" curse. need I say more? ^^

2. were...what? Assumes a harmless or even downright humiliating form on the full moon.

3. Curse to make you emit a scent that most creatures can't detect but undead find it irresistable.

That gets it started. Let's hear more.

4. theme song - constantly followed around by own theme song, that everyone else can hear except the one cursed by the theme song

5. ware-chicken, need I say more

6. divine flavor - celestial, fiendish, or other extraplanar animals/beings will pop out of nowhere and try to eat the cursed being

7. unintelligible famaliar - the cursed mage's famaliar can communicate with everyone else except its own master

8. kender ancestery - unknowingly attempts to steal stuff, gets caught easily, and has no idea why he has tried to steal anything

9. foreign accent mix-up - speaks elven with a dwarven accent, dwarven with a gnome-ish accent, ect...

10. medical student syndrome - the minute the cursed learns of a disease he starts to feel sick and believes he has said disease

11. Compulsive shapeshifting curse: Every 12 or 24 hours, you have to take the form of whatever intelligent creature you see, and take on their str, con, dex, and average your CHA with theirs.

12: Curse of the Horn - originally from the land of Viagrovia, symptoms obvious .....

13: Loss of short term memory, a not completely debilitating curse but one that combined with the loss of short term memory can make functioning in any circumstances somewhat repetative, along with short term memory loss.

14: Curse of Incontenance - very embarressing, especially in battle if you are a warrior.

15: Curse of the Hum - you hear a catchy little tune and the d**n thing will not get out of your head ... soon you find yourself humming it constantly, and it drives everyone nuts.

16: Nasty Niff - you nottice nothing, but other people start avoiding you, and spending as little time in your presence as possible. What's wrong, do you smell or something?

18 ) curse of the :censored: : every 3rd or 2nd word is censored by a farm animal sound.

19 ) curse fo the lost pants: at the most inoppertune time, your pants fall down (IE: alone in the foyer, chatting with a noble's wife, noble comes in, pants go down)

20 ) curse of the wooden stick boy: everytime you lie your nose gets bigger, when you tell the truth, it recedes

21 ) curse of jusenkuyo : for those macho guys - when doused with cold water, you turn into a "cute" girl with both your str & cha switched. when doused in warm water, you turn male (or vice versa if female).

22 ) curse of the jaguar : your skin turns yellow and you gain spots. you tend to extend your "r" sounds. nothing more.

23 ) curse of the wolf : your skin turns gray and your hair becomes shaggy. you extend your "o" sounds. nothing more.

24 ) curse of the curse : you think you're cursed. you actually aren't and the caster was bluffing, but paranoia is a great thing. especially if cast with a BIG grin.

I've always found curses appropriate to the target's normal activities fun

25: Curse a Rogue so his hands continuously exhude an adhesive.

26: Curse a Cleric to take damage for every wound she heals on others.

27: Curse a Fighter to grow larger each time he kills, though his gear does not.

28: Curse a Bard to only be able to communicate through their chosen Perform skill (Song, interpretive dance, pantomime, etc)

29: Curse a Sorcerer with worsening chills, but his spellcasting generates warmth enough to abate it for a time after casting. Impose penalties that worsen the longer a spell is not cast.

30: Curse of the cowardly hand: Your hand twitches whenever you are close to an enemy. from 90 ft or further away you take no penalty, -1 cumulative penalty for every ten feet closer than that you are. if they disarm you your hand twitches more, due to such a close encounter, therefore making it a -2 instead of -1, as above. especially good vs. rangers and barbarions.

34. Curse of the wandering abilities: Every third day the Character's abilities shift down one, so that Str becomes Dex ect.

Ring of false invisibity: You turn invisible to all good people, are visible to neutral people, have a huge red piller of light about a half-mile tall that surrounds you to evil people.

Yeah, took a looooong time before the party figured out that one.
Raiden Drake

11. Compulsive shapeshifting curse: Every 12 or 24 hours, you have to take the form of whatever intelligent creature you see, and take on their str, con, dex, and average your CHA with theirs.

Ah, you beat me to it. As a note, the below things are very badly worded in terms of game mechanics, feel free to correct them and read my sig for the reasoning behind my lack of ability to apply the numbers and stuff to these curses.

52. Shapeshifting allergy: similar to number 11 but the cursed shapeshifts randomly and into weird creatures whenever they sneeze. Usually followed up by the curser with number 53.

53. Allergy curse: the cursed is allergic to just about everything and will sneeze 5d20 times a day.

54. Speak backwards curse: The cursed speaks all sentences backwards, pronouncing everything backwards and all. Hard feat for the DM or players to pull of so alternatively the cursed will just speak as if reading the backwards sentence.
ressurrector

08-25-06, 08:32 PM
55: Curse of the Power Ranger: Your character must allways appear doing some stupid pose, possibly a team formation pose if multiple characters are affected. Alternate: your character must climb up to the highest available perch and then attack from there (great if nobody has fly/featherfall).
*for those of you that have seen Slayers, think Amelia*

(I'm a jester...very interesting side job, decent money too)

56. Saddle "sore" - you take a -10 to all ride checks

57. Aura of opposition- whenever anyone uses a detect alignment type spell, the character's alignment registers as the exact opposite of the one casting the alignment detection spell.

58. Inappropriate encore - Your character breaks out into song at extremely inappropriate times and in extremely inappropriate ways. (ie. singing ACDC's "She's Got the Clap" during the middle of a wedding would qualify.)

59. Failed greetings - You can never remember anyone's name, and when you try to introduce yourself you can't remember your name but for some reason you know with perfect clarity the name of the person you are trying to introduce yourself to, and then promptly forget their name a minute later.

61.Curse of the itching powder...They itch almost constantly and finally when they do get that perfect spot scratched it moves to somewhere else and they can never stop itching. The only way to keep the itching at bay is to be covered in dung, which has to be replenished every half-hour.

62.Curse of the exercise video's...It cause them to have dreams each night about themselves in tight spandex in a video(of course they dont know what either of these things are so they get more freaked out). The best part is when they see someone of the opposite sex that they "fancy" they cant do anything but mimic the moves on the exercise videos.

64: The curse of Al Bundy: The afflicted character must have at least one hand down the front of his/her pants at all times. Hands can be switched, but only one hand is ever usable at any given time. If the character doesn't wear pants, a pair magically appears and can't be removed. In addition to the obvious, this also imposes a -10 penalty to all Intimidate, Bluff, Disguise, and Diplomacy checks.
Rerecros

08-26-06, 05:36 AM
65: curse of the noisy brain, works the exact opposite of a detect thoughts spell. Any one in your cone instantly knows what you are thinking.

70. The "WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?" curse: Upon hearing a certain word, the character flies into a barbarian-like rage. Great for battle, terrible for diplomatic negotiations, fancy balls, or romantic situations.

71. teh [ur53 uv 1337ness: The character can speak and write only in leet (esp. confusing with non-common languages. Elven 1337!)(Even more confusing when there's no such thing as computers).
TalonofTiamat

08-26-06, 10:06 AM
72. Too big for your briches: You grow so large you can no longer fit into your pants. This happens no matter how large the pants are. (Great for the smaller folk)

SnowSage

08-26-06, 10:26 AM
74: The curse of Adam Sandler: Any time you attempt to speak it comes out in a retarted voice that makes everyone laugh. You're perform (sing) takes a -20 penalty, but that's OK, since everyone but you thinks that you did an amazing job by stringing random words togeather that make no sence, and they pay through the nose to hear it. Great for town roleplaying, not so good for dramatic situations or bards.
Laranis Callirr

08-26-06, 10:29 AM
75. The Curse of the Beard: Character sprouts a glow-in-the-dark beard with neon colours.
