| twad04-10-05, 02:05 PM | another 1001 post for good, more or less original names for cities, villages and other places. You may add a small concept with the name.. 1- Signas, village of wine 2- Falburg 3- Caernett 4- Douvallons |
| DrMorganes04-10-05, 02:30 PM | "original" as in "never before seen outside of my brain" or "original" as in "not used enough to be cliche"? If the former, add Anthar-on-Silversea, a major port city I use in my homebrew world |
| twad04-10-05, 03:02 PM | err.. original as dont use names like Washington, Paris, Tokyo ect... |
| The Shaman04-10-05, 03:25 PM | 6. Rivermeet 7. Upper Rivermeet 8. Lower Rivermeet 9. Rivermeet Cross 10. West Rivermeet 11. South Rivermeet 12. Rivermeet Keep 13. Rivermeet Manor 14. Old Rivermeet 15. New Rivermeet This sort of naming was common in medieval Britain - while taken to extremes here, I find it helpful to use a name with three or four different variants as it adds verisimilitude and reduces my workload as a GM. |
| twad04-10-05, 07:33 PM | I did something simmilar in the game im working on.. 16- Sigma of the sea 17- Sigma of the plains 18- Sigma of the woods 19- Sigma of the hills ect.. The way i see it, its because all mayors are member of the Sigma familly who builded the cities. |
| Trizzel04-11-05, 11:40 PM | I came up with this small town that is on the river heading to Silverymoon. It has several warehouses for distribution. River barges are there all time of the day. That is why I call the town "Lil Sleep". One of my players (wizard) liked it so much he retired there. |
| Arrowhen04-12-05, 03:55 AM | Here's some names to steal: In the campaign I'm currently running, the characters first met in the small fishing village of Foggy Point, in the Kingdom of Eldirand. After running through a heavily modified/mangled version of WotC's free Wreck Ashore adventure, they booked passage on a small merchant ship named the Hag's Ambition to the port city of Sendrei, in the Kingdom of Lark. After their adventures there attracted unwelcome attention from the city watch (oh, and the demon lord Malrathazar), they found themselves in the employ of a shadowy but benevolent seceret society called The Observant Lodge. After being smuggled out of town by the Lodge, disguised as nuns on their way to the Abbey of St. Basignac the Accurate, the PCs are currently on an expedition to Alurid's Tomb, built by an ancient human civilization called the Gels at the northern edge of the Warhaven Wood. Thus far they've traveled north along Luhayan's Way, stopping for a night of carousing at The Stag & Jackal Alehall before continuing on to the village of Rat Hollow, where they've temporarily diverted from their main mission in order to hunt down the orc raiders responsible for the destruction of the nearby village of Wedgecox. Oh, and there was a side-trek to a haunted village in there as well, but they never got around to asking the ghosts what its name had been--which is just as well, because I never got around to coming up with one. |
| Ut-Napishtim04-12-05, 07:58 AM | Morrowind has some good ones, just to name a few... 20 - Balmora 21 - Seyda Neen 22 - Caldera 23 - Ald Ruhn 24 - Tel Branora 25 - Pelagiad although if your players actually play the game that could be bad (mine don't.) :thinks: |
| twad04-15-05, 11:44 PM | :bump: |

| Kaligrad04-16-05, 01:34 AM | Okaar City, capital of the Okaaran Empire. Also, a short cut I took recently in my Ravenloft campaign was to take the names of East Europe cities and rearrange them a bit. Some examples: Stevansburg Diga Callinn Hasi Gilnius |
| WCH04-16-05, 02:55 AM | The names with *s are lifted for the purpose of my campaign from Battles of Tenadia (http://tenadia.computergames.ro/), a massively multiplayer online game I was a part of but which is currently down, awaiting the release of the beta of the new version (they said they'd have it ready to enter Beta by Christmas. Now they're saying give us another month or two. Still waiting...). 42. Tir Velar (human capital) * 43. Tir Varod (human city where the last surviving magi live) * 44. Kaw Lorsk (Orc city) * 45. Tinulad (Elven country/capital city -- Tinulad Forest/Tinulad City) * 46. Rindenberg (older human city) 47. Gloemerton (Dwarven city) Other names from Battles of Tenadia: 48. Kaw Shagran (Orcish outpost) 49. Tharwid (colony of Elven fighters) 50. Kyllan Llyr (Drowish capital) 51. Ered Karras (Dwarven capital) 52. Lur Gorbak (cave populated by Ogres) 53. Kyllan Trawyn (Drowish holy site -- think spiders) 54. Ered Taroc (active volcano, home of an ancient red dragon) 55. Tenadia (the whole continent) Just so you know that I'm not just some random fanboy of BoT who's ripping them off, I'm the #1 poster on its forum, a moderator with the rank of Half-GOD (GODs being the programmers) and the leader of the game's strongest clan; I've also written a very small portion of the texts to be used in the new version. |
| Merinthael05-19-05, 10:15 PM | Korozor - Hobgoblin Empire Cedesira - Elven Capital |
| Duvanok05-19-05, 10:45 PM | 56. Oakshadow 57. Elmhollow 58. Gorlon's Shore 59. Clearbrook |
| digoraccoon05-20-05, 08:45 AM | 60. Magic City Arcana 61. Machine Cog 62. Xian Free City 63. Kitten Farms 64. Fort Dodongo |
| High Octane05-20-05, 09:09 AM | Talocem- Largest city (by population) in my campaign. Based in a rare geographical oddity, a large flat coast surrounded by mountains except on one side is a lake. The city is virtually impossible to invade. Its has a highly dense population and towering high (for the time) buildings. Emor- Largest city (in area) in my campaign. Its buildings are not towering, but it has lots of houses and buildings spread out as far as you can see. The city is built over hills that have lush valleys that support the most excellant farming in the world. Oasis- In the middle of the belt desert that separates the northern continent from the south is the city of oasis. Although not very large, it has a small lake that people live off of. Without it, it would be impossible for caravans to travel across the desert and trade would crumble. Crogan- Large city on the west coast, found in the fuzzy boundry between a dense forest and a mountain range. Ruled by the 4 great families (which are neither great nor by most standards, FAMILY.) |
| silvermist05-20-05, 10:23 AM | kingdoms: kraa (an island) the magilands the enchanted forest manuel linderwal rawel n'rag (dwarven) n'rok (see above) The northern wilder the southern wilder cities: llexandera caitford forsool typically i dont put much work into city names or random comoner names. in part this is because my pcs will never remember them anyway. in part this is because the island of kraaaa (number or a's varries) was made up on the spot and was the pcs favorite name of all time. on that same note we have a bard named cricket (on the spot) which the pcs like way better than any of the npc names i actually put time into. |
