| m14762mmfmj01-23-05, 11:09 PM | Be they uber or meek, a good NPC stays with you long after you are done playing them. I think it would be cool to share all the cool NPCs you've made or seen in the game. I've seen another thread like this but I couldn't post to it so I'm starting a new one. #1 Marie In one of the most broken campaigns I've ever played I had a nice, girl-chasing monk who was quite fun to play. After spending the day in Manifest buying equipment and going from bar to bar trying to pick up chicks he got lucky and met Marie. Another PC was doing the same thing and so I told the DM to "roll to make sure she's human." Big Mistake. So the next morning he decided to show her my place which was floating island a mile in the sky near the city. He stepped foot on the island and... BAM!!! was encased in a dome of stone which panicked the monk and Marie. Another PC, an Illithid, told him that his cohort, a cleric, had done it because Marie had detected as overpoweringly evil. And that's when I had to make the Will Save... which he succeeded at and shook off something in his mind. He then managed to talk his way out of the on coming death (he wasn't a pacifist just didn't like combat) and tried to guess what this creature was. Thanks to the original Eagle Claw Attack he was able to make a small hole in the wall and she turned into a puff of gas and escaped. It was then I was struck by the possibility that she might be a vampire, and recoiled in horror when I realized it was noon and she wasn't the slightist perturbed. She eventually took over the island and built it into a just and prosperous city. So, while I was DMing PC was sent to spy on her and show she was a vampire. She caught him and, using detect thoughts and a religious tome of the church of Heironeius (the god the PC worshipped), was able to make him question his faith and his understanding of good and evil. The adventure ended with the PC jumping off the edge of the island and going on a many day drinking spree. #2 Diana the Fleshsculptor DM: "You walk further through the antarctic wasteland of Seorn. Soon, through the blizzard you see a huge crowd of people standing in front of you under an invisible dome that blocks the snow. As you walk closer you realize not one of them is moving. Closer still, you see they are standing on a plateau which is about 1 foot tall, all of them are dressed in different clothes. There are warriors in full plate, grand wizards in colorful robes, and others in simple robes; all stand, frozen in time. As you step on to the plateau the temperature suddenly becomes confortably warm. As you walk between the bodies you see some motion in front of you and then you clearly see an eye floating the air, watching you. As you step towards it, it backs up matching your pace. As you follow it, you can make out a big peach colored block ahead. Quickly afterward, you find yourself in a clearing with the block, the floating eye and a short pale woman dressed in an elegant black dress. She has huge talons that she uses to cut away at the pink block and then you realize the block seems to made from human flesh. She turns to you and says "Hello, my name is Diana. Would you like to buy a statue?" Diana, is a great mystery for my PCs. She sells statues, but must have something more to her... The only other thing they know about her is that she knows and is known by a Great Wyrm Tartarian Dragon and the progenitor of all vampires. Both of them have been imprisoned in a pit for 6 millenia. |
| Deep Black01-23-05, 11:21 PM | 3# Barin Dragonfist: Player of the Ignorant In the leadup to the campaign, I carefuly made sure no one had access to reading my copy of the DMG. The PCs met Darin Dragonfist, a Bard of considerable talent. He tells them to fetch him the Orbs of Dragonkind, and in return he gives them relitively minor items. After they've given him all 5 chromatic orbs, Darin (Up till now a relitively nice bloke), decides it's time to get revenge for something that happened a long time ago, and uses all 5 orbs to set the Dragons on the kingdom of elves, as they had cast him out as a child. So, then the PCs realize that the elven kingdoms - their nation's only ally against the Illithid incursions, is being battered to pulp by the dragons. Darin has a good chuckle about this, and the conclusion's still up in the air. |
| Saurenda01-23-05, 11:26 PM | #4 Not the Lady of Pain I was freaked out. My first DnD game at a new place with people and a DM I did not know. Then it is my turn to explain my backstory. Once that is out of the way I am visited by a strange woman answering my magical ad. Her name is Layra. Now Layra had this wonderful suit of gold and an elaberat headdress, spectacular even. It was wrought of gold and moving pieces throughout her body. I shuddered and smiled. The Dm asked what was wrong. I said, "Nothing. She certainly isn't the lady of pain afterall!" Afterwards I found that she was cursed since birth by the Gods to be inept. Her body was limb, and she was certain to die at an early age before her father a high level loremaster was able to build a golden suit for her to be mobile and live a decent life. She could barely lift a wand in her hands. She could not walk more than 10ft per turn. Her vocal skills, however; were unsurpassed by even our exhalted monk in the party. Layra also sang very well, like a 15th level bard good. She instigated our quest to find a material component for a wish spell that would allow her to circumvent the God's curse, and allow her congenital disease to be cured. During which I constantly was threatened by the mention that she was not the lady of pain, nor was her half sister who ruled Sigil  |
| Deep Black01-23-05, 11:32 PM | #5 Drakagoyl, Fist of the Mighty AKA Dennis Hodegpatch. Drakagoyl was a 1st level commoner who found a wishing well. He wished to appear mighty to all who looked upon him. Appear mighty - not be mighty. Thus, the 10ft tall warrior with 9ft greatsword, golden platemail, and unbeliveable power was a 1st level commoner. He bullied and threatened everyone, extorted cash from the mayor, basicaly ran the show in town. The PCs gave him over 60% of their earnings simply because they didn't want him to smash them. |
| Quarterstaff01-23-05, 11:33 PM | Murdo Nembit-a very very nice man who helps everyone he can at all times he harbors a dark side he is possesed by a very powerful demon who lost his body in a fight against a devil so murdo dos his best to be nice so the party thinks he is just a really nice guy until blood is shed in his precence at which point his skin turns black two huge horns grow out of his head he grows spikes on his body and his very blue eyes turn black the first time this happened to the party he nearly killed all of them until he was incapcitated by the monk |
| Gilganarz_the_reporter01-24-05, 02:08 AM | 7#Mayax Think Myzxtplyx (did I spell that right?). He pops around and annoys the Pcs every so often. From what I can see, he's the character the Players love to hate. The wizard has made several vows to kill him and the party spirit shaman wants to reincarnate him as a harp seal. Manifests as a gnome in a lime green suit and bowler hat. Has god like powers. |
| digoraccoon01-24-05, 09:00 AM | #8- Miluda Zalmus, insane Wizard with a specialty for creating skeletons and golems. Her golems were often covered in random grafitti (by her) and she would use the oddest things to create wonderous items (like Socks of Springing and Striding). Wonderfully funny yet deadly still, like Batman's Joker. |
| Xantel03-28-05, 11:43 PM | #9 Stonefist lawful good lvl13 monk...in a doungeoun full of deamons and undead...he was crazy, like, whenever he used flurry of blows, he always hit at least twice and did HUGE damage with his hits. so there was this room and there was a lot of zombies and they were just clearin it out, np. stonefist used flurry on a huge zombie, all three hits, 1 critical...i knew this was gonna be a kill but i didnt tell them that quite yet, so i go on to explain how this thing gets the crap kicked out of it: hit one! kick wipes out torso, inertia keeps head, legs, and arms suspended in air hit two! kick swipes legs and arms away in teh the side wall, the splatter hit three! punch slams the head into the back wall. the zombie is dead man i miss him...havent gotten my group back togetehr yet so that i can bring him back... |
| rob121204-18-05, 09:58 AM | #10 The crazy sorceress She was in a campaign I DMed. She was totally insane and lived in a stone shack-thingie in the corner of the kingdom. Everyone always gave her a wide berth (20 feet at least) whenever she was out (which wasn't often). Her favorite greeting was, "Are you here to feed the spiders?" (and yes, I know I took that from morrowind). So then, the ranger of the party (who, in my opinion, was also completely insane) tried to talk to her. Talking to her always ended with something happening. One time she flew off to attack the "dragons" that were suddenly flying over the town (which no one else could see). Another time, the ranger was trying to use "insane talk" to get an oathbow from her (insane talk was speaking "insane" back. It was very funny when they carried on "insane" conversations). Then she started casting a spell. The ranger's last words were, "Can I have an oathbow?" (everyone else had taken cover)(maximized delayed blast fireballs are fun, especially at level 3!). Neways, eventually they discovered what level she was (it was funny because she had been that level since the game had started). She was a Sor 507 (oh, and somehow that was her age, too. Don't worry, she was an elf). She was fun to play. Edit: Made it easier to read. |
| Kash Darreder04-18-05, 10:26 AM | #11 Rubina 5 year old orphan we rescued form the gnolls that murdered her parents. She had natural psionic abilitites, and she sort of took our elven wizard as a new dad and started pestering him. Keeping up conversation with a little-to-happy-given-her-circumstances, 5 year old girl is hard enough. It gets even worse when she can follow orders to "shut-up" and still go on, and on...and on. He almost went broke trying to buy her presents in order to get some quite time from her. Oh and when she channeled a female version of one of Manshoons (FR evil archmage) clones, he didnt get it and talked to that clone as if it was 5 years old. Hillarious to witness because the rest of us had already figured it out but the wizard player simply didnt get it, no matter how strange the conversation got. Clone: "So how is the layout of the prison?" Nasrudin: "Well sweetheart, there are alot of really big bad green evil orcs, they are VEEERY dangerous. The doors are locked with magic, so they are VEEERY hard to open, and the whole place is dark and smelly. Do you understand what I am saying?, VEEERY Dangerous and smelly" Clone: Yes I quite understand, stop sounding like an idiot. Any other ways in or out?" Nasrudin: "Well there are a door that is hidden, its a secret door, because people dont know its there, thats why it is a SECRET door!" It simply got so bad that the rest of us had to step outside not to ruin the game with laughter. KD |
| Child Of Winter04-18-05, 10:32 AM | Alarik, the Lieutenant of the Thieve's Guild: Tall, dark and mysterious. He wore a black cloak that seemed to absorb light and a wide brimmed, black hat. He smoked a pipe and had black stubble growing on his chin. In a run-down and seedy tavern in a bad aprt of town he had arranged to meet the PCs and give them a mission to hijack an airship so that the Thieve's Guild might have a new way of transport. The deal was going down as planned, but then he offered to pay the PCs after the jacking and would not put a price on the job before hand. This agitated the PCs and they went over to intimidate him with swords and bows. As they rose, all 40 of the bar's patrons rose and drew crossbows from under their cloaks, ready to fire on the PCs! They were all Thieve's Guild members sent to protect teh Lieutenant from danger! It was hilarious to me, the DM, and it stopped them in their foolish tracks. They sat back down and everything returned to normal. They sure weren't gonna try and pull a stunt like that again in a hurry. |

Your thiefs guild liutenant needs 40 (40 !!!!) bodyguards to make buissness deals?!?! This may be the least confident guild I have ever heard of! I wouldnt work with such people in a lifetime, there are limits to how cowardly (or cautious) my employers should be. Not to mention that I would never have done a job where a coward of a thief is telling me he will pay me everything on result but not give me an idea of how much?! Sorry dude, this is not to put you down because I dont know the situation well enough, but that sound more like blatant railroading that a cool npc. I am sorry if I misunderstood the situation though, meaning no offence. KD |
