| CrazyCombatCarl01-22-07, 07:53 PM | Thread is simple come up with a big huge list for Big Bad Evil Guys for DMs everywhere to get great ideas from. 1. A Council of Vampire Lords 2. A paragon of red dragon's has reached adulthood and now seeks to have all the treasure in the world 3. 20th level kobold sorcerer named 'Snip', thats right a named kobold |
| Nived01-22-07, 08:05 PM | 4: Wizard with Obcessive Compulsive Disporder who keep wands on him and basically always has prestidigitation activated and cleaning himself and everything around him every waking hour of the day. Nothing screams evil like psychotic neat freak. 5:Kilt wearing Dirge Singer with Backpipes of the DAMNED! 6: Dryad that likes to soak her roots in the blood of innocent children. |
| dreamerboy01-22-07, 08:10 PM | 7.) Renegade druid creating aggressive and dangerous mutations of local wildlife. Recommend use of the Horrid Template in the Eberron Campaign Setting. |
| Zephania01-22-07, 08:45 PM | 8. An intelligent item. Think about it, PC kills the fake BBEG, and later another guy starts doing the same thing, and has the same item. |
| Elvez4ever01-22-07, 08:54 PM | 9.) Lich/Vampire King 10.) An awakened LE rabbit (who would ever kill a sweet little rabbit?!? :angelhide ) |
| TheChilliGod01-22-07, 08:58 PM | I swear, I am actually going to use a rabbit as a BBEG at some point. Just put the bunny in the middle of every single murder scene the PC's investigate and have NPC's hold the bunny only to scream and die the moment the party's back is turned. Nobody suspects the silent, stilled phantasmal killer! 11) A mad necromancer that doesn't know animate dead. :shifty: Make him a ghost after, to hold in the irony. 12) A Chicken mage. Yep, you heard me. Specialize in summon monster spells and summon nothing but celestial chickens. It gets a bit Zelda-esque, but eh. 13) A Yuan-ti assassin that doesn't mind dying all too much, acts with a "Go on, I dare you to kill me" attitude. 14) An ex-paladin blackguard who still believes he is doing the right thing for the people. |
| Durandal_170701-22-07, 09:01 PM | 15) An awakened, intelligent golem wizard. |
| Aratex01-22-07, 09:11 PM | 8. An intelligent item. Think about it, PC kills the fake BBEG, and later another guy starts doing the same thing, and has the same item. 14) An ex-paladin blackguard who still believes he is doing the right thing for the people. I played a campaign once that was a combination of these two ideas.. The intelligent sword was actually a fallen angel of Heironeous trapped in a sword that took over the party paladin who tried to wield it. Looking back on it, that was a really cool story. |
| Cowboy_Neal01-22-07, 09:30 PM | 17) A human fighter/rouge who is emotionally unavailable and has a weakness for cheap beer 18) Evil wizards who worship undead dragons as gods. I believe they are called the Cult of the Dragon? |
| Ramses III01-22-07, 09:35 PM | 19) A Swashbuckler/Wizard/Eldritch Knight who is a notorious, bloodthirsty pirate, with a raven familiar named "Parrot." Yes, I'm actually using this one. 20) A pair of ancient dragons capable of taking humanoid form, who manipulate kingdoms to war with one another as proxies in an age-old feud between them. 21) A well-known and influential bureaucrat or royal advisor who slanders the PCs to the nobility and other citizenry (merchant guilds and the like) causing everyone to treat them as dangerous criminals. 22) A noble knight or lord who is a war hero, but is a thaumaturgist who secretly summons demons behind the scenes to kill his adversaries. 23) A devil which is a high-level monk that believes it has achieved enlightenment and seeks to purify the world of chaos by eliminating all free thought/will. |
| 12Shark01-22-07, 09:49 PM | 24) An Ex-Paladin/Blackguard driven mad by the death of his infant child. It was an idea I read on the 'Art Objects' thread - if anybody has a link, please post it - and was from the idea that goes something as follows: 'A room filled with fine toys and a masterwork crib. In the crib is the gently reposed corpse of a baby, curled up in the fetal position.' |
| mcnoo01-22-07, 09:54 PM | Why has no one said it yet.... 25) EVIL TWINS OF THE PCS |
| Durin41301-22-07, 10:02 PM | 26. Literrally 10,000 regular orvs they must fight, all at once. Make sure you have insta kill variant rule. And these orcs have ranged weapons. |
| Maniacal_Cackle01-22-07, 10:05 PM | Love the evil item idea, love the dead baby paladin idea, and the bunny idea (all could be quite creepy if done right :) 27. A half-devil, half-kobold (HAS to be kobold for the humliating aspect). The PCs may get a glance of him now and then, but overall, they never see him. Instead, they only feel the presence of him when he sends people after them. Worse, he uses them to track down whatever he is looking for. Ultimately, the PCs realize that the BBEG suceeded due to their efforts. EDIT: (Posted at the same time as someone else, I should be 27) |
| TheCrawlingSpleen01-22-07, 10:41 PM | 27. Along similar lines of thought... 28. Drakil Redwind: Human Necromancer/Disciple of Asmodeus, LE (obviously). When he was young, his village was ravaged by a plague. Watching those around him die piqued his interest with death (leading to a focus on necromancy later in life) and the afterlife. Drakil began studying, and taking a liking to, Baator's organization, and their use of any means necessary to achieve their goals. He now actively serves Asmodeus, using his arcane power to extend the archdevil's goals. Much like the half-fiend kobold above, Drakil is usually one step ahead of the PCs, and endeavors get them to help achieve his schemes. This guy is my favorite recurring villain. |
| Montuban01-23-07, 01:02 AM | 28. A concordant killer (MM4) who gives the PCs tasks and rewards and eventually starts sending minions to kill to do-gooders who threaten to destroy the balance of alignments. |
| Nived01-23-07, 01:15 AM | 29: The Butler of a friendly NPC is really the head of the massive world threatening conspiracy. Because you know you want to be able to scream THE BUTLER DID IT! 30: Twist on the evil twin... the masked man is really... evil alternate future PC! |
| SageBahamut01-23-07, 02:24 AM | 31: Half-angel half-demon True Neutral Paladin (why didn't they write one? oi!) who is out to destroy Good people. Because there's too much Good in the world and it's becoming unbalanced. And it's easier than trying to breed more Evil ones. And more reliable. 32: One of the PCs. Seriously. Nothing is scarier than a traitor who was in on it all along. |
| Ramses III01-23-07, 02:59 AM | 32: One of the PCs. Seriously. Nothing is scarier than a traitor who was in on it all along. Lol, I gotta get with my DM and do this in the next D&D game I play in. Trouble is I usually DM. |
| DDdreamer01-24-07, 04:52 AM | A mad lich who thinks he is still alive with an army of flesh golems(who he thinks is alive too). |
| Generic Fighter01-24-07, 08:32 AM | There is a great web site for fully statted NPCs that even has a listing of BBEGs on it. There is a link in my Sig for it, The D20 NPC Wiki. Look under D&D NPCs by Challenge Rating and at the bottom of that listing click on "Villians and Masterminds:The BBEG Collection". You'll find links to some interesting BBEGs there. 12shark, I have a link to the thread you want in my Sig, too. Generic fighter:fight!: |
| Thought01-24-07, 10:16 AM | 34. Going off the idea of a paladin gone mad by the death of a child; the inhabited body of the dead child (fetus for the most punch), controlled either by a random evil spirit or the soul of the child itself, who refused to give up this life. Throw in some psionic powers and you've got yourself a B-rated horror movie villian, at the least. |
| Nimbus01-24-07, 10:44 AM | 35. LE Awakened Cat and his NE Druid Minion |
| Durandal_170701-24-07, 09:03 PM | 32: One of the PCs. Seriously. Nothing is scarier than a traitor who was in on it all along.Hey, hey, hey! That's how I'm getting out of a friends campain. Evil... is fun. They'll never expect it. Mwahahaha! My hobgoblin cohort and I will stop their threat to Azarr Kul's march to glory before they become a real problem. And by holding these so-called heros at the ruins while the human city of Brindel is razed in Azarr's rightful rise to supremacy. Long live the Son of the Dragon! Hail the Red Hand of Doom! Sorry, got carried away. Durandal |

| Ethandrul01-25-07, 04:14 PM | One of by favorites was a bronze dragon who had the misfortune of putting on a helm of opposite alignment. now, he sails the seas in a magic red ship- keeping his treasure under his mattress in the captains quarters. his first mate was a gnome illusionist- which- when combined with a dragon and a crew- on the limited playing field of a ship proved quite nasty.Oh, the ship was made from the carcass of a massive red dragon- inchanted to be completely fire proof. |
| Orchomenos01-25-07, 04:40 PM | Check Fictional Characters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fictional_character) on Wikipedia. Make sure to click the links for "Protagonists", "Villains" & "Tricksters". (Use CTRL+F to quickly find the word.) Ethandrul's bronze dragon was #36, so: 37: A mad (scientist/wizard/aristocrat) who kidnap babies because he think that by listening to what are their first words, he will learn what is the True Language. 38: A former human woman who became a (succubus/erinyes/hag/nymph). The only thing she regreat is to not be able to have children, so she kidnap babies in their craddle to play with them. |
| Paneki01-25-07, 05:03 PM | 39. An Evil Wizard (necromancer) who after being defeated resurrects himself and becomes a Lich. (with Vampires) 40. An Ex-Hero of the local kingdom, driven mad by his unknown fears after defeating the previously BBEG. 41. A Doppleganger who manipulates Local Region through royalty while hiding in the shadows. 42. The head of a LN church dictates that they must pursue all the spellcasters. Becuase Magic is "againts the Deity's Will" of course, while using magic themselves |
| Ramses III01-25-07, 06:47 PM | 43. A "reformed" (now Lawful Neutral) demon who believes he is a paladin but just hasn't gotten the hang of being "good" yet, and destroys both evil and well-meaning criminals alike. 44. A CE militant anarchist who has taken over a group of freedom fighters that opposes an evil dictator. The new anarchist leader has led the group from their previous activities (like bringing food to overtaxed villages and freeing political prisoners) into assassinating magistrates and arson against government property. His next big plan is to foment dissent against the crown by poisoning the capital's water supply. 45. A wealthy aristocrat who secretly supports tribes of hobgoblin raiders and slavers, buying slaves from them to use on his island factories/plantations/sweatshops. 46. A famous general with overwhelming support among the military who has set his eyes on the crown and now leads his troops against his own countrymen. 47. A high-ranking official in a good-aligned church (who is also a high-level cleric) who has made a pact with a dark power. He seeks through dark rituals and blood sacrifices to bring a dire prophecy to fruition. |
| Yuntil01-25-07, 06:53 PM | CE Corrupted Titan Warlock! |
| sparkhunter01-25-07, 07:08 PM | 48. A local hunter who has been controled by a necromancer through some of the Animal heads hanging on the walls of his home. 49. An Obsesive Compulsive Drow that believes spiders are the only clean race. He is suicidal. 50. A homeless kid who was cursed by a necromancer with a permanent animate dead affect in a 100 ft radius from him so that whenever he goes within a 100 ft of a dead body tha body animates and goes on a destructive rampage. |
| Omnirahk, half-Rahkshi01-25-07, 07:40 PM | He's a Riedran, but not directly affiliated with the Dreaming Dark. Just one of the average, everyday humans (not Inspired) living clueless about the DD. Or at least he was. Let's just say he didn't take it well that his just, benevolent rulers are actually thralls to an evil extraplanar force. Goes a little nutty. The real problem is that he completely idolized them. Rather than accept that they are evil, he decides he (and pretty much everyone else) has a flawed concept of evil. So now he views the Quori as the average person views angels (or coatls in Eberron). This guy defines the word zealot. He is a crazed evangelist of Dal Quor. Convinced that they are the ultimate good, he makes it his goal to open the gates to Dal Quor so that their righteous might may cleanse the world. He thinks he's succeeding. Truth is he's a wilder with expanded knowledge (astral construct), and perhaps a few ectopic form feats. He is not affiliated with the DD, and in fact they aren't too fond of him. They like subtlety. Having a nut announcing their coming isn't desirable. Luckily he is a nut. Yet he still poses a real threat. Might be nice to figure out how the kalashtar feel about him. |
| snakeman83001-26-07, 08:13 PM | A lich with false Phycaltrys. Every time they kill him, he comes back with better knowlege on how to beat them. Unless they can find the real phycaltry (or this can be plural), he will continue to return. and spread his influence. |
| malisteen01-27-07, 01:08 AM | - The matron of an orphanage who raises some of the children to become assassins (or, more likely, shadowdancers, at least mechanically), who she sends out to kill those who she believes have abandoned children. (In Eberron she's a worshipper of the Fury, in that diety's aspect of the 'forsaken child', and sees herself bringing wrathful justice to those who have grievously wronged those most innocent. She probably isn't even evil). - The manipulative devil who appears to said matron in dreams to tell her which important figures deserve her vengance--corrupting the once innocent children under her care in the process, not to mention the deaths themselves probably serving some purpose. (In eberron this might be a member of some shadowy organization, such as the Dreaming Dark, instead of a devil). - An colony of Aboleth, with memories stretching back in perfect clarity to before the universe itself, creating a massive summoning circle (read: miles accross) at the bottom of an underground sea beneath a major city. Their agents are leading a cult within the city that is preparing for a great mass suicide that will open the summoning circle and call one of the Elder Evils into the Material Plane. - One of the PC's father, who raised her to carry on his roll as the world's deadliest assassin. She ran from him, refusing to become a murderer, so now he works endlessly to find her and bring her back, so that she can carry on the family business and he can finally die in peace. - A mad transmuter who wishes to animate all the world's statues, and turn all the world's people to stone. - A twist on the intelligent item: an Intelligent Place. A cursed and ancient hill, or a vile spring, which corrupts and dominates those who visit it and sends them out to work it's evil upon the world. |
| DM_Death01-27-07, 02:52 AM | 51+...Mummified Human Monk/Tomb Warden. It's been manipulating events through its undead minions outside its tomb, and the PCs have to enter destroy him. Immune to turning and ALL its fluffy attacks bear the risk of inflicting mummy rot. And be sure to roll stats for the beastie (or use a point buy) EXACTLY like your PCs did. Bump his charisma to stupid heights and watch the PCs tremble. I'm actually using this as a villain in the near future. Gotta love those Mulhorandi tombs... |
| TheCrawlingSpleen01-27-07, 02:58 AM | - A colony of Aboleths, with memories stretching back in perfect clarity to before the universe itself, creating a massive summoning circle (read: miles accross) at the bottom of an underground sea beneath a major city. Their agents are leading a cult within the city that is preparing for a great mass suicide that will open the summoning circle and call one of the Elder Evils into the Material Plane. :coolcthul=:w00t: A similar scenario could work with the Tsochari, infiltrating the city to gather the components for a massive spell, one that would tear open a portal to the Far Realm and allow Mak Thuum Ngatha to enter the Material Plane. - A twist on the intelligent item: an Intelligent Place. A cursed and ancient hill, or a vile spring, which corrupts and dominates those who visit it and sends them out to work it's evil upon the world. Genius Loci (Epic Level Handbook) fit that role nicely. In addition, one of the Dragon issues had mechanics for making haunted locations similar to the one you describe. |
| cerberuspuppy01-27-07, 10:51 AM | Half Fiend Minotaur Sorcerer, who may return later as a lich. In an old campaign, my planned BBEG was an Ogre Mage Wizard, who was trying to rebuild an ancient kingdom of ogres. He was decended from that kingdom's rulers, and called himself Kahn Sul Daraq. Cleric of Hextor, who has used Planar Ally spells to bargain for Baatezu allies. He has two Bearded Devils as bodyguards. Half Orc Cleric of Erythnul, who has gathered a following of ogres, trolls, and monsters like chimera. Enjoy a good slaughter? Join my cult! C'mon, it's fun! So the cleric himself makes potions for all of his followers, and casts Bear's Endurance on his minotaur lieutennant, stuff like that. |
| Lord_Yy01-27-07, 01:55 PM | Okay, I counted all the ideas before this one, so now we have numbers again! #65: An Awakened Flesh Golem who torments and vivisects live test-subjects in an attempt to extract a soul for himself. #66: A Nymph who kidnaps human boys for purposes which, if stated here, would get me banned for sure. #67: A Soul-Locked(Heroes of Horror)LBEG who ends up fighting the party often. What's more frightening than someone who keeps coming back no matter HOW badly killed he is, and knows the party's fighting styles off by heart? |
| MindLich01-27-07, 03:25 PM | 68: A Pyromaniac Sorcerer Kobold that has fire creatures at his disposition. 69: A violent and destructive big Orc who worships Grummush. 70: A Red Dragon who polymorphed into a women in distress. Oh, and Lord_Yy, thanks for the numbers. |
| YamiSouru01-27-07, 03:55 PM | 71) a Barber who was driven insane when a judge of the city sent him to jail for 15 years and stole his wife and child. He now veiws humanity as creatures that deserve to all die, he kills whoever comes into his parlor alone and through a chute sends the bodys down to the meat pie store below his parlor, the owner of which uses the bodies to make pies. The barbers weapon of choice is his barber sheers. |
| Senevri01-27-07, 07:08 PM | 72. The Reikoku (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=665846). Trust me, this is nasty. Maybe not the first time, but after they kill it once or twice and notice _it cannot be killed again using the same tactics/power level_... There'll be fear, even from the Munchkins. 73. An Arbyfish. White, preferrably. ...Had to be said, move along, move along... |
| Orbb_was_railed_by_God01-27-07, 10:39 PM | #74: An awakened octopus Monk / Cleric / Sacred Fist. Oh yeah baby, bring it on. #75: A mask-wearing, Thundering Shocking Burst Quarterstaff weilding, cloaked Shadowdancer, a complete dervish with the staff, each hit creating sonic booms that echo through the streets, then fading away afterwards. |
| GospelofRob01-27-07, 11:24 PM | 76. An Alienist child. Female. Partnered with a child master necromancer. Finnally partnered with a Master of the Unseen Hand child. Both boys. All white hair, grey eyes, pale skin. The combos should be able to be seen by all. Very delicate team, having low hitpoints, but very frightening. I'm thinking about something like F.E.A.R.'s plot. 77. Added bonus to the above, a piece of the aborted god fetus in Fiend Folio. (As in the monster that is a piece of an aborted god fetus) Have it be the one that gave the children their powers. (and if wanted, make the children unholy scions) |
| 12Shark01-28-07, 12:11 AM | 78. The PCs themselves. As in not just one member, not just some mirror of opposition thing, but the actual PCs later in life. Have a complex Ontological paradox meaning that after they defeat their older selves they must eventually find their way back to that point in time to recreate the battle from the opposite side to ensure the future they created's existence. It's also a nasty way of retribution if they decide to do something rash like Trap the Soul in the initial BBEG battle, as well as a good way of ending the legacy of the characters in the close of a campaign. |
| Comus01-28-07, 12:32 AM | 79. No one, in a way. This whole time, when the PCs were convinced they were tracking down some kind of massive evil organization... there isn't one. You see, the man each 'miniboss' has considered it's 'great leader'... died centuries ago. But his work lives on, in a dozen or so tomes. Each one crafted with carefully worded spells and ideas. So well crafted that they can turn a casual reader into a fanatic. And a fanatic into a member of some bizarre beyond-the-grave personality cult, all dedicated to his master plot, his vision of how the world should be. And the worst part? What about the copies of the book that the party has given to the local authorities? The king? What if a party member read the book himself? I'd like to see them try and defeat a meme. It's easy to kill men, and monsters are only slightly less fragile. But ideas take a lot more effort. |
| Durin41301-28-07, 01:43 AM | 80. Highly Xenophobic racist aggressive grey elf by the name of Gritler. HEIL GRITLER!! |
| Haruspex01-28-07, 01:56 AM | 81. A mean-spirited disease carrier who wants to spread his disease far and wide before dying. Unfortunately, the carrier has a stronger constitution than most and the bodies are piling up... |
| Lord_Yy01-28-07, 02:08 AM | Comus: Consider yourself sigged. |
| Bengal01-28-07, 02:57 AM | 82. A ruthless halfing barbarian warlord and his fiendish dire riding dog. Plus all the other barbarians he leads, of course. |
| Generic Fighter01-28-07, 11:05 AM | 83: (Warning: For Low level, humorous games only:P ) Jimbob Frank "Bubba" McGee, The Epic Level Commoner 84: A Fallen Planetar that likes to collect pretty Girls and have his way with them...FOREVER! 85: A Efreeti Monk who acts as Judge, Jury and Executioner of a City. He doesn't like the PCs horning in on his turf, obviously. 86:Dragon with levels of Warlock. |
| MagicMouth01-28-07, 11:51 AM | 87: The Blood Angel. A mighty celestial warrior who for countless years fought against the fiendish hordes of the Outer Planes. In time, he became cynical and wrathful, and used more and more ruthless methods against his enemies. One of the things that angered him the most was the humanoids; even though they had the freedom of choice, many pursued darker paths and went to the Lower Planes after they died, where the ranks of the already numerous demons and devils swelled with each corrupted soul. His angelic rulers sensed the growing darkness within him, and banished him from the Upper Planes. Confused and angry, he started to lose the grip on his crumbling sanity. Still, he wanted nothing more than to eradicate the forces of evil, and even if he now was alone he would do all in his power to fulfill this wish. He could not possibly take on the Lower Planes single-handedly, that would be foolish beyond anything else. However, if he could somehow weaken the fiends they would be easier for his former comrades to fight. Seeing as the souls of evil mortals eventually transformed into demons, the best option would be to destroy them utterly in both body and spirit. Still, the heavens needed many more warriors to have any chance of permanently defeating the fiends. Therefore, it was very important to make sure that as many pure souls as possible went to the Upper Planes. However, there was the risk of once-noble mortals falling into darkness as their lives progressed, and this could not be allowed. They must ascend now, before it is too late, even if this meant killing every single one of them. The Blood Angel is a horrific figure. He still has the basic appearance of a celestial, but he is twisted in several ways: his beautiful wings are stained with crimson, and his eyes are covered by a blood-stained bandage (he has gouged out his eyes to blind him against the sin of mercy). He wields a massive soul-stealing sword taken from the hands of a mighty devil, and his scarred body is concealed beneath a tattered grey robe. He is a very unpredictable and murderous foe; he usually slays any mortal he encounters unless he has some ulterior motive requiring that they remain alive. The souls of evil people thus killed are absorbed by his malevolent blade, who consumes and utterly destroys them over a period of several days. |
| Ramses III01-28-07, 10:54 PM | - An colony of Aboleth, with memories stretching back in perfect clarity to before the universe itself, creating a massive summoning circle (read: miles accross) at the bottom of an underground sea beneath a major city. Their agents are leading a cult within the city that is preparing for a great mass suicide that will open the summoning circle and call one of the Elder Evils into the Material Plane. - A twist on the intelligent item: an Intelligent Place. A cursed and ancient hill, or a vile spring, which corrupts and dominates those who visit it and sends them out to work it's evil upon the world. Nothing says "evil" like summoning Cthulhu -- or maybe even Azathoth! Hey, kids, can you say, "the end of the universe as we know it"? The Intelligent Location is a cool idea, I may be stealing that one from you. Aside to GospelofRob: I really, really wish people would keep the undead aborted god fetuses on the Mature boards where they belong (and for that matter that they had been printed in the Book of Vile Darkness -- that monster would be pretty crass even for White Wolf). |
| roninwolf10901-29-07, 02:23 AM | 88. A play on the Awakened animal bit: a CR 14...KITTY CAT! (half dragon, Vampire, perhaps one or two more Templates I can't remember now, 4 levels in Sorcerer). Imagine it. Awwwww look at the cute little OH MY GOD! MY FACE! IT SHOT LIGHTING AT MY FACE! *insert evil laughter from DM here* :D |
| johnhansen01-29-07, 04:52 AM | Many years ago in my campaign the demons wanted to be able to come to the prime material plane and stay so they made a deal to join with the great wyrm red dragons. 89: Great wyrm balor red dragons (all the power of a balor and a red dragon in one). There would have been 8 of them if they had not been stopped. |
| Comus01-29-07, 09:47 AM | 90: In the darkest forest of the darkest land, there is a powerful druidess who kills all those seeking the McGuffin of Power. Her views on balance are twisted and warped, and she believes that there is only one person who can keep the world from falling into chaos - herself. She is a relentless hunter, favoring aquatic combat where most other races are least effective. Her favorite form is that of a Great White Shark. The druidess' animal companion, a bear, helps lure and chase her prey into traps and pits, many of them channels leading to a lake, allowing her to move, as a shark, unseen in the underground waterways. But when the prey gets too smart, or too difficult to capture, they unleash their most powerful strategy. The druidess, as a shark, casts a spell to allow her to breathe air, and her animal companion picks her up and carries her, the two of them becoming the legendary... BEAR HOLDING A SHARK! *dramatic music* |

| graddlin01-30-07, 04:13 AM | A group of Nightmares searching for the thieves that stole away their offspring to sell to wicked buyers. The Nightmares will rip apart everything and everyone in their path. |
| graddlin01-30-07, 04:20 AM | A shapeshifting creature, (make one up, instead of using a Monter manual), is preying upon a small township. It takes only one person each week and has yet to be detroyed. The problem is that the beast has taken the form of a small, friendly dog that wandered into the village and was adopted by the local guards! (Smart little devil.) |
| Senevri01-30-07, 08:15 AM | #79 is good stuff. A bunch of philosophical/sociological literature which turns intelligent people into BBEGs. I like it. |
| Durandal_170701-30-07, 12:22 PM | Ja, I mean, it dosen't even need to be magical, just really well written. This sorta thing happens in the real world, so why not D&D. Thanks, Comus |
| evilgenius01-30-07, 10:20 PM | 79. Pure genius that. May I absorb that into my campaign? |
| evilgenius01-30-07, 10:25 PM | An entertaining BBEG; 93: Sir Randolf the Valiant; He's considered a Hero worldwide. He's hailed wherever he goes as vanquisher of evil, protector of the weak, and explorer of great mysteries. But he's just a pathetic fake. He takes credit for other people's actions. The PCs will have heard of him repeatedly as a bigtime hero - but after the PCs defeat the evil monster of such-and-such and clear out the nasty dungeon of whatnot, within a few weeks the public is all abuzz about how Sir Randolf cleared out the dungeon of whatnot, vanquishing the such-and-such monster. PC reaction: "WTF?!?!" I mean, why do good deeds when he can take credit for other people's good deeds? Sure, the PCs can claim otherwise, but he's Sir Randolf (with the near-epic reputation) after all, and those wierdo adventurers must be just trying to steal HIS credit. I tried this once; you've NEVER seen PCs so P1553D off at a BBEG in any game like my players were faced with Sir Randolf. It bordered on a psychological obsession to kill that character after a while... |
| GospelofRob01-30-07, 10:44 PM | Nice with Sir Randolf. My respect you have. 94: Horus the Sky God Granted modified to the setting, but end the campaign with an epic battle over storm swept seas, on the backs of a silver dragon. (Use a false Horus, Raptoran sky cleric/prestige class) |
| Ramses III02-01-07, 01:16 AM | 95) A variant troll. It speaks a pidgen of common and 1337, and argues (inarticualtely) with everything the PCs say, generally trying to pull the conversation off on some tangent. Its main attack is Browbeat, and it has the full Obstinate feat chain. Unlike the troll in the MM, neither acid nor fire deals lethal damage to this troll... in fact, instead of doing even nonlethal damage, flames heal this troll of nonlethal damage equal to the damage they would normally do. Cold (like the shoulder) does lethal damage, however. |
| Comus02-01-07, 10:01 AM | Pure genius that. May I absorb that into my campaign? Sure. I wouldn't post up ideas that I didn't want/encourage others to use. And thanks for all the compliments, guys! :) |
| evilgenius02-04-07, 02:12 AM | Sure. I wouldn't post up ideas that I didn't want/encourage others to use. And thanks for all the compliments, guys! :) Cool, thanks! Regardless, I always prefer to ask permission. Another pair of BBEGs: 96: The Nameless Deep One... A Kraken cleric of Umberlee. It never surfaces, nobody actually knows it exists. It downs ships with it's power to control weather, and with the Storm domain it can cast "call lightning" to further add to sailors' misery. It animates the dead of drowned sailors... Tales tell that there's an evil storm that sinks ships, and if your ship isn't sunk in the waves and lightning, then the dead climb aboard to take your vessel. Only by playing dead and drifting back to shore has the tale ever been told... 97: Barag, the Mad Scion of Bane A mystic theurge who's favoured tactic is recruiting new "worshipers" for his god Bane... But not just weak worshipers, he recruits Demons and Devils. He uses Dimensional Anchor, Magic Circle and Planar Binding spells to summon these foul creatures and hold them prisoner. He grants them freedom if only they'll pray to Bane and tell him their true names. If they accept, he uses commune to confirm with his mad God that he's satisfied with these servants. Then, Barag uses a second dimensional anchor, magic circle and Planar Binding spell to summon a powerful celestial (who cannot hurt neither him nor the demon / devil while it's own circle is intact). If the demon / devil refused to pray or lied to Bane, Barag leaves the demon bound, but sets up a candle to burn through the circle that imprisons the Planetar in a few minutes. He then enjoys the howls of panic from the doomed demon / devil and then he teleports away before the celestial is released to exact his divine vengance on such a foul creature bound before it, immobile and unable to summon backup. If the demon cooperated and gave his true name to Bane however, then Barag sets the demon free but keeps the celestial bound and imprisoned... Such a handicap for the divine creature would surely make it an entertaining toy / prey for the new Banite servant. |
| TheCrawlingSpleen02-14-07, 01:31 AM | Continuing with the demonic line of thought, it's time to throw down, old school! :88E: 98.) Cult agents of Obox-ob, led by a half-fiend cleric. They are gathering the components and sacrificial offerings for a vile ritual that will cause a massive planar breach and feed the entire planet into the Abyss, bringing about the Prince of Vermin's ascension (granting him the power to overtake Demogorgon and reclaim the Abyss for the obyriths). He's tried this tactic before on another world, so he might attempt it again on this one. :evillaugh |
| Bengal02-14-07, 02:20 AM | A relatively low level BBEG for starting campaigns... 99. Dr. Franklin Nicholas Furter Bodies have been dissappearing from local graves, but only the fresh graves. And when there aren't enough bodies, people start having "accidents." and their bodies dissappear after the funeral too. In fact, someone is crafting a spellstitched companion to help ease their loneliness, with the help of their first, unsuccessful attempt, a flesh golem. |
| Holy_Avenger_44102-15-07, 11:00 AM | 100. The renegade angel of gold is trying to over though his god but is pinning the betrayal on you. He is a persuasive and extremely manipulative. He has an army of traitorous angels at his disposal and a unlimited supply of gold coins to sway the hearts of the weak. He tells his god that killing you will save his domain, the angel of gold has been working for hundreds of years and was behind every major political crash just to make his dreams come to fruition. this is the ultimate bad guy for all of my campaigns, he was in every one pulling the strings behind some crazy guy and in my last campaign he was finaly killed. |
| fiendkiller02-15-07, 11:40 AM | The extremely powerful, gentle, kind wizard protector of the town that helped the PCs turns out to be under the control of the ornamental skull with the wierd gems in its teeth and eyes (demilich) that is sitting, covered with dust, in the corner of the room. The characters will be torn between not hurting the wizard and trying to save him, or take less of a risk and kill him. |
| Keeper of the Mists02-15-07, 12:04 PM | 102. Rowan – an elven sorceress vampire lord (lady). She used to be a princess of her people thousands of years ago, but was kidnapped and embraced by a vampire lord who sought to control them. However, a powerful exalted (BoED) laid siege to the lord’s castle, destroyed him, and took her prisoner. Despite her evil inclinations, she became fascinated with him and adventured with him, attempting to elevate herself through his influence. She found it remarkable his kind and generous ways, while still so powerful and virtuous against evil. The two were ambushed by his enemies and he died while she remained entombed in the earth, slowly going insane as she contemplated the unfairness of his death. Now, several thousand years later, she has been freed and is immensely more powerful than she used to be, but is also quite eccentric. She searches the world for those with the possibility of becoming exalted, and when she finds such people (such as the party), she starts “testing” them behind the scenes – setting fire to an orphanage to see if they will save the children, kidnapping a PC’s family and torturing them to see if the PC will sally to their rescue, and so forth. She doesn’t consider herself evil, per say, she is “helping” the PCs become the ultimate goodness in the world. |
| Keiichi_m02-15-07, 02:01 PM | 39. An Evil Wizard (necromancer) who after being defeated resurrects himself and becomes a Lich. (with Vampires) 103: A different take on this one. The wizard has a contingancy set up and all steps of the ritual ready to become a lich, this is the parties first quest to kill this wizard, but the party striking him down mearly activates the ritual and he becomes a lich, striking the party down and fleeing to become the BBEG. Opening lines for this battle should be "Strike me down, and I shall become more powerful then you could ever imagine" |
| TheCrawlingSpleen02-16-07, 03:47 PM | I love that you said that, because that is exactly what Drakil (#28) did! His "last" words, upon being run through by the paladin, were: "This is only the beginning." :evillaugh |
| Xandria02-16-07, 07:30 PM | A relatively low level BBEG for starting campaigns... 99. Dr. Franklin Nicholas Furter Dr. Frank-N-Furter, perhaps? :D 104: The Angel and The Blooded The PC's are contacted by an angel residing in a gorgeous palace. He employs them to find an ancient artifact so that he can keep it from the hands of evil. While they try to find it they are met my Mr. Coup and Mr. Vandamere (guess where I got them from; win a cookie); two vampires of exceptional powers-in tracking and torture. What they don't know? The Angel went mad long ago and was imprisoned in the palace for destroying a city because they stopped worshipping him, and Mr. Coup and Vandamere are his employees. |
| locksmyth02-16-07, 08:45 PM | 105: Loth-touched Corrupted Half-Fiend Awakened Squirrel It "technically" breaks a few template rules. But it's worth it. I'm going to add character classes to it, namely druid and sorcerer. Give it a strong focus on Necromantic spells and the players will never see it coming. It also has potential for becoming a Lich. |
| TheCrawlingSpleen02-19-07, 08:13 PM | Nobody suspects the squirrel! |
| WhiteRaven81002-19-07, 09:03 PM | 0106, Lolth. |
