Hello everyone! I want to hear your ideas for mega campaigns. By "mega" I mean each adventure ties into the next so that it takes the PC's to 20'th level. In each one there should be a surprising part. Think the end of a movie where the character's sidekick is discovered to be the murderer. I will get it started.

1. The PC's are hired to babysit a young child. However the young child is the "Keeper of The Moon" and he is captured by a sorcerer. "The Keeper of The Moon" is the one chosen to keep the moons orbit in rhythum. The sorcerer then goes to the highest point in the land and ritualy sacrafices the child. This act throws the moon off balance and it will collide with the world if the sorcerer is not killed. Surprising moment: Right when the characters are about to kill the sorcerer the find that he is the boys father. He did not want to let his son have such responisbility. Can the PC's bear to kill him?

I prefer settings, so that players won't get railroaded.

You should have a very loosely drawn up plot, but nothing that forces the PC's down that particular road.

All of my campaigns have a ongoing theme throughout, (in my last one there was a series of undead invasions) with the PC's alternating between this main plot and many side plots (some of which later link up to the main plot). One thing I do make sure however is that the PC's can see their effects on the world, so if they don't manage to complete a quest (or don't want to) then something bad normally happens (in my last one this would normally take the form of a village/town being destroyed and the undead army growing in size)

Perhaps I should change this to "1001 times a 1001 thread didn't work".

There's a number of differences between a well-thought out plot for RPG campagin that will take players from point A to point B and railroading.
