OK Dungeonmasters and mistresses, here's the thread where we let out inner powergamer out. Let's make the regulars over at the CO boards earn their +20 BAB at 15th level and 30 AC.

1) The players enter a narrow hallway. A Porticullis trap slamms the door shut behind them. Then, the walls start closing. As they run forward, the floor behind them opens and one of them falls in, taking damage and triggering a Reverse Gravity trap. Those that manage to run over the pit before the trap triggers, run into razor wire and fall back into the pit. Those caught in the Reverse Gravity fly into a second pit, in the ceiling, that triggers a hail of darts. The room slams shut and starts filling with water.

2) A Collapsing Wall falls on the players, triggering a series of tentacles that grapple the players, pick them up, and slam them into spears. Repeatedly.

3) A hallway begins to flood. As your players dash down it, they encounter a Medusa, which turns them to stone, and then feeds them to her pet Purple Snake.

4) A Hail of darts with an automatic reset, treated with a paralyzing poision.

5) A Rust Monster with SR. Not really a trap, but sadistic none the less.

6) A monster with an ability-draining touch attack given Monk levels.

The Ultimate Pit Trap

This trap is placed in a 10 foot wide corridor. It is, for the most part, a simple pit; not even covered, ten feet wide and 50 feet deep. The corridor is well lit; the pit is obvious.

What is NOT obvious is the invisible wall of Force on the opposite side of the pit, extending from the ceiling to the bottom of the pit; the wall also covers the other three sides of the pit, including the walls of the corridor, but not including the side from which the PCs approach (see illustration).

The red surfaces are the walls of force; the PCs approach from the open side, and can't see the walls unless they succeed at a DC 30 Spot check.

Hopefully, a PC will attempt to jump the pit; obivously, you should let them take 10, which automatically clears the pit if they have at least a +0 Jump modifier. However, they hit the wall of force and fall into the pit. Another wall of force closes over the top as the PC falls. See next illustration.

The blue surface is the new wall. When the PC hits the bottom, he takes 5d6 falling damage and triggers a Reverse Gravity effect. This causes him to fall up into the wall of force and take 5d6 falling damage. His impact triggers the dismissal of the Reverse Gravity effect, and he falls to the bottom of the pit and takes 5d6 falling damage. He also triggers the Reverse Gravity effect. Etc.

By x=.5a*t^2 (50=16*t^2), we get that it takes about 1.5 seconds for him to fall one way. Therefore, he takes 20d6 damage per round (4 cycles).

8. A magical trap that casts hold person followed by a cloudkill or incendiary cloud spell. This can also be scaled for a lower level by replacing hold person with slow or for a higher level by replacing it with forcecage.

9. This one has been mentioned hundreds of times, but I'll mention it again. The PCs enter a room. The door slams shut. A timer counts down from 20 to 0. There's a switch on the wall beside the timer. If the PCs pull the switch, the timer resets. If the timer hits 0...the door opens.

portal in the end of a corridor, this is disguised so that it seems to be part of the wall. the corridor continues on the other side of the gate, and the gates magical aura is concealed. once someone step through they are teleported to the top of a shaft. as the fall they pass through a permanent prismatic sphere (or other nastiness) only to fall into a gate at the bottom of the shaft taking them to the top once more.

100x100x200 room, with a 99'11"x99'11"x100 block, and a reverse gravity effect on the room, and the entire room is arranged as if the reversed gravity and block is it's natural state. as soon as 500lb additional weight is placed on the block, the reverse gravity dispels. DC40 reflex save to be blown out into the original corridor with displaced air. for additional goodness, make exits seal on dispel. 100 ton rock falls on party. everyone dies.

treasure is surrounded by tables and the tables have spikes under them. the only way to get to the treasure is to walk on the tables. what you want is greedy pcs to immediatly (sp?) jump on the tables and to the treasure. the tables have a spell on it that causes the player to dance uncontrollably. the table then breaks from the dancing pressure and the pc will fall onto the spikes. the spikes will then give way and the pc will fall down a pit with more spikes, which leads to another pit with more spikes etc. if the pcs make it to the treasure have be an illusion covering a pit with spikes that leads to another pit with spikes which leads to... well you get the idea.:evillaugh

13) Not really a trap, but: A Maze of Walls of Force (none for Walls, just floors) over a lava pit which is pumping out blindingly thick smoke the entire time.

14) This one is borderline epic, but I'll put it in anyway: A fairly large room with a door at each end (both swing shut automatically). Whenever both doors are shut, all characters in the room are affected by a Time Stop spell. As you can't affect non-Time Stopped objects while you're time stopped, you can't open the doors. They PCs are trapped until someone teleports out and opens the door. Of course, in the time between them leaving and opening the door, an infinite amount of time will have passed for anyone left behind...:evillaugh

One of my favorites is a simple set-up. Have the PCs enter a 5-foot hallway. Once they get ten feet past a corner, have a rolling stone begins towards the PCs in the hallway. Since they can't go back, they can only wait for the stone or run. When they run, they hit the trip wire. They fall prone, and proceed to have a huge stone run them over.
