| tharivol26606-20-06, 12:37 AM | well you kinda gotta read my post to see where im going with this and if anyone can tell me what i should make it the 1001 of im open for suggestions maybe player tantrums.... 1) okay so my new campaign is a post-apocolyptic setting in this world i made up last year after the 7 evil overloads named after the 7 deadly sins took over and 20 years passed. the PCs wake up after having a prophetic dream and seeing words they couldn't understand and the met at a wall that had the whole prophecy written in the foreign language. anyways they went to the tavern to see if there were any jobs available on the town board and i said no and eventually they made their way to the mage's guild where they got a clue and went out and found part of the translation. then they went back to the tavern and asked about jobs again and got pointed in the direction of a traveler and when they met him he was trying to go to sleep. so they went to sleep and took watches because they told him to come to them when he woke up. he came to them at about 4:30 am and started talking to the group leader (okay now i need to say something. the player who is usually leader openely rejected it and the other player turned it to the third and there was no one for him to pass it on to). Now then the traveler tells the leader that he needed to go to a dig site and the leader agreed to work for him for this mission. when the other two woke up he told them he got a job and before he could even explain what it was the player who refused to lead said he wouldn't go. he didnt have any reasonother than "because leader didnt ask us" tpo which the leader said "its my job as the leader to get us jobs." and the third player supported him. but the contrary one still rfused to go. so the two set off and the contrary one looked to me and was like "i look around town for jobs" i was just like " there are none" to which he said "what do you mean?" and i was like "its post-apocolyptic. there isn't alot of action going on from towns folk." and he was just like "so im done for the day?" me:" unless you catch up with them." him: "any good dm would have something just in case." me: " There are no other missions in this city. i explained why." then he got sulky and left. the other two went happily on with the gam and have leveled up and gain some good loot(well are about to) and he's mad at me because I dont railroad and i don't metagame and i dont bow to the pressure of one player. in the next session he'll be sitting out for a little while while the other two finish what they are doing and get back to town and i know exactly what he'll do when he's told that they got stuff while he was off doing nothing:    especially since they got more of the translation and he wont know as quickly what the writing said. |
| buddy403106-20-06, 02:14 AM | that is a tough one. well, the player wasn't a team player, the player made a bad choice, and the player did throw a fit of some sort. thats all i saw really. |
| tharivol26606-20-06, 01:28 PM | okay ive decided on a name. "1001 player tantrums/overreactions" any story that has a player freaking out about something in a good way or bad that was in a not everyday type of way. |

| FellBlade06-20-06, 03:25 PM | I have seen players flip out before ok now my dm dosent use maps (a battlemat that is) for combat it was all desciptive, so were fighting in a bottle neck and where all getting a chance to fight, the ones in the back a little less but they still get to shoot, then all of a sudden one player demands a battle mat the dm said he would prefer not to use one but said player would not take no...so after a long argument he whips out the markers and aforementioned player realises whe are in a 5ft bottleneck (did not understand the description of bottle neck) we then all promptly died pecemeal....after this said player fliped out swearing, arguing, blah blah blah i did not catch the huge argument (neither did the other players) due to a coffe & smoke break |

| __DnD4Life__06-20-06, 03:55 PM | Well, I had one player who used to do this alot. First, he rolled his stats (away from table) and was about a 50 point buy, where everyone else had about 35-40. I told him to re-roll, and had everyone else back me up. He whined and complained alot, but finally agreed. That wasted about 30mins, then he made his character(lvl 8) and decided to go into Anointed Blade (BoED). This PrC gives an intelligent item. So, he pulled out the DMG, and rolled on the table, got a 100 on the D100. Nobody saw him roll, and it turns out he got a sword with a higher Int Wis and Cha than anyone else in the party, and the cost ended up to be over 400,000GP. I decided to let it fly(not knowing how powerful it would be) and he ended up taking out the BBEG, a CR12 demon, in the surprise round. The weapon had Dismissal 1/day with a HUGE DC. So, after the first session, i confronted him and told him that he can either take a low-powered intelligent item, or risk losing it. (enter half-ogre barb5/warhulk5/FB1 with imp sunder :plotting: ) He said no, because it was "too good to lose". So, I sundered it. He got mad, and left, and about a week later, one of my players informed me the class gave a prescribed intelligent item, similar to what i was going to give him. So, long story short, he is no longer invited to my sessions, since he read the whole class, and decided to ignore that. |
| FellBlade06-20-06, 04:05 PM | That DM needs smacked with a hammer gun. If as player requests a visual help for a combat, it's the DM's job to set one up. It was understood by all that we would not be using visual combat aids we never have before,(personaly i prefer them) so no it is not his responsibility to do anything but explain the situation to his best ability, what is digusting is the conduct by both player and dm in stead of A. drawing it out (on graph paper to ilustrate the situation) or B explain it untill the player understood |

I never said he had to use a battle mat. I said he HAS to show visual input of his dictated/dictumed anology of the formentioned encounter terrain. By the by, D&D 3.0/5 is almost retarded without a battle mat. You severely limit players abilities to use half if not more of thier special abilities iof they can't fight tacticially. "I sneak around and sneak attack" "No you can't" "Why?" "Placement" "Ghey, get a battle mat" |
| FellBlade06-20-06, 04:28 PM | wow that tactics phrase was uttered by buddy right before he broke out in a rage and threw his dice across the room, sereously though i dont care if you are arguing that 2+2 is 4 there is no excuse to act in a violent and enraged manner (ecpecialy at a game) |
| Ryu Katsuragi06-20-06, 05:31 PM | Mmm. I feel so bad for posting this, seeing as the person doing it is a close friend of mine, but it being the only real note-worthy over-reaction my group has had so far... Basically, one week after our Ranger got the Manyshot ability, we were fighting a bunch of mook zombies and a lich. Now, because we were running out of time (and wanted to get the battle finished, as to leave us ready for the quest next week), we didn't check the rules on how Manyshot worked in combination with Rapid Shot. Therefore, he was firing two arrows with each attack manuever. Now, the week after, the DM looked up the feat while we were having a break and informed the player about how it wouldn't work, because Rapid Shot is a full-round action and Manyshot is a standard action. He was obviously a little annoyed at this, thinking it was a waste of a feat, because as he said 'I can fire three arrows at -2, or two at once for -2... I can't believe I wasted a feat.' So, we continued. We got into a fight in a bar in Sigil, and after taking one of the guards down, he said he wanted to turn and attack someone else with his final attack. The DM said he couldn't do that, because off the top of his head, he didn't know if it was possible. Now, this was what surprised me. Usually, said friend was extremely calm, and I'd never heard his voice... but he sounded furious. The DM explained he didn't think that with a Rapid Shot you could do so, because it's such a rapid attack that you could just go 'Oh, now I'll shoot that guy with my last shot.'. The DM was calm, and the player was almost shouting, argueing about how the DM just didn't like how much damage he was doing, and how quickly he was killing his NPCs, which was why 'He was nerfing his character.' After nearly an hour of this constant back and forth arguement, which ended up with a huge discussion of the player not understanding the difference between the different kind of actions. In the end, he went out for a smoke, while we looked up the rules and stuff, and the fact that he even phoned one of his friends to get him to tell the DM the rule I felt was just pointlessly rude. In the end, the DM simply said 'Well, I did say I was sorry. Go ahead and attack, then.' But what surprised me was how bad his reaction was... |
| Denihilist06-20-06, 06:00 PM | I was running a game, and while I don't remember the specifics, I had an NPC that knocked a player unconscious, and a round later, the player who has said nothing for the last few minutes, upended the entire dinner table (solid wood, seating six, covered with food, books, drink, and LAPTOPS). The two laptops were ruined, the only saving grace being that they were corporate laptops, so they could be replaced easily. It was a mess. Needless to say, the game was over for the night, and the player had some major butt kissing to do. |

| Jacilla06-20-06, 08:59 PM | Some of these are much better than mine but here’s what happened. I was running a game in our store, and had 11 players. I worked the game so that most of the time they were in two groups with the help of a DM assistant. Anyway, in one session, one of the groups followed a band of Hobgoblins and the other a band of orcs. Each group got to battle the band they were following and then travel on through the forest to the BBEG’s lair where they all met and took down the bad guy. However, group A, after defeating the Hobgoblins didn’t search them and group B, after defeating the Orcs and getting their stuff spotted the dead Hobgoblins and wandered over there to make sure there were no live Hobgoblins or dead companions. What they found was the treasure the first group had missed, which they took. A side note, each “group” was allowed to keep and split between them anything they found. Three weeks later one of the players in group A, at the end of the session, suddenly and for no apparent reason begins calling the people in group B thieves, saying all manner of nasty things about them keeping the loot they found on the Hobgoblins. I step in and try to explain the situation but this guy wasn’t having any of it. He stood in the middle of the gaming room … in my store …. with his hands on his hips and screamed and yelled abuse at me. I feel obligated to mention that this was a 35+yr old career Navy officer. He was escorted off the premises and told firmly never to show his face there again. But honestly, calling an old lady filthy names over a game? And some treasure that wasn’t even … worth anything? I was astounded. |

"You know, I'd rather my rogue just be typing TPS reports and bringing home the bacon rather than slaying this stupid dragon..." jobs missions quests adventures they all mean the same thing. and just because one time i made a board with multiple options on it they think that i have an infinite pool of adventures ready like a morrowind kinda thing. |
| Robaticus06-20-06, 09:33 PM | 23 years ago . . . I was 15 years old, and a DM. I'm sure I was a Monty Haul DM, and I know that Greg "the Green Griffon" was a Munchkin. We were playing in a school-sponsored game, after school, in Mrs. Jones' science classroom. I forget exactly what happened, but Greg was not happy. Greg, Ruben and I stepped out into the hall to discuss it away from the rest of the group. Not in a threatening way, but in a "lets get this resolved so that it doesn't affect the rest of the party" kind of way. Greg starts getting physical. At the time, I was 6'2 and 180 pounds. Greg was halfling sized. I held him at bay with my right hand on his forehead. I thought it was funny the way he could swing his fists and come nowhere near hitting me. He grabbed onto my arm with both hands and connected between my legs with his right foot. After I recovered, I tore up his sheet and he never played D&D in our group again. To my credit, I never took physical revenge against him. |

Or at least boken a few bones with my drumsticks (I play drums, and can hit with over 500lbs of force). Man, these are the people who go overboard. I've got a nasty temper myself, but at least I can see the othersides point. And I never get into a fight over a game (unless the game itself is physical..). My group has had some bad times, but nothing compares to these things... |
| Archmage_Vall06-20-06, 11:15 PM | One player in our group who played a human fighter with 0 (zero, zilch) personality. Would seriously sit there and not say a word the entire time, until the party got into a fight with something, that is. He built his fighter to be a rapier wielding crit-maniac. Keen rapier, improved crit, Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, the whole works. Our DM ruled that Keen and Improved Crit DO stack, so he had a 12-20 crit range on his rapier, and about a +23 to hit with it at level 16. We got into a fight with some ordinary displacer beasts. He charges ahead, attacks one of them, gets through the displacement, and rolls a 10, which hits easily, but wasn't a critical chance. Him: BULL****!!!! NOT A CRITICAL!!!!!!!! :hoppingma The rest of us: Dude, you still killed it in one hit Him: *storms out of the room* Cleric: I cast Calm Emotions... Ambiguously Evil Wizard (me): Note to self: Prepare "Slay Fighter" tomorrow... |
| __DnD4Life__06-20-06, 11:25 PM | ...TPS reports... NICE!!!! @Ryu Katsuragi - So, what did your boss say when you brought in the broken laptop? I bet he was happy. I would have demanded the player pay for a replacement. |
| Ashok_Lal06-21-06, 12:22 AM | Sad to say but it was me. The dice had been most unkind I just could not get a break. Thay just kept rolling between 1-6 (d20). SO DAMNED OFTEN! In a tantrum i hurled that cursed die. It flew out of the 6th story widow, accross 3 lanes of trafic & hit a guy just minding his own buisness. Lucky for me no one fingerd me as the shooter. Another one i herd of happened to my freind. (before i even knew him) In a battle one of the charicters had been killed. The player of the charicter was less then impressed. He argued with the DM that his charicter was not dead. The DM did not agree. (from what i was told it was a fair death.) This player reached into his bag with one hand, grabed the DM with the other hand, pushed him against the wall and held a bayonet to his throat demanding his charicter was not killed. Odly enough the charicter was suddenly alive. Thay never let him play again. |

| Shade_Damara06-21-06, 03:33 AM | That's just when you call the cops... |
| Madfox1106-21-06, 08:32 AM | I never have seen players go beyond shouting, and even that is a rare thing indeed. I know I have been guilty of it as well, though to be honest, I still do not know why I got angry enough about it to start shouting. Sure, taking a penalty on the to-hit roll and dealing only half damage to deal nonlethal damage, still somehow killing the attackers and still getting arrested for murder was unfair and sounded awefully like rail-roading, but usually I just shrug. It was probably the last drop... Note that when somebody draws an actual weapon in a game and threatens anybody with it (and I have heard stories from reliable sources about people drawing a gun), it is time to call the cops. |
| Tormsskull06-21-06, 08:42 AM | Back when I was really young, I was playing in a campaign with 2 other players and the DM. Only one of the players had never died. He had his character named after the Beastmaster (Dar). Well, bad things occured and he croaked, and he burst out into tears. It took the DM like 30 minutes to calm him down and make him understand that it is just a game. I just sat there with the  look on my face. |
| __DnD4Life__06-21-06, 04:03 PM | That's just when you call the cops... ..And the player slips on his boots of escaping, and runs away. :rimshot: |
| Herald@Large06-21-06, 04:05 PM | Waaaaaaaaaaaay back in the days of 1st Ed., our DM was *obsessed* with red dragons. Talked about them constantly, kept "threatening" (in a friendly way) to throw them at the party, thought they were THE best monster, etc. etc. etc. Well, he finally got the chance to throw one at us. We were horribly overmatched (2-4th level characters :weep: ) until player R pulled out his Rod of Rulership (a rare and spiffy item that basically cast dominate). Unfortunately for R's ego (he'd been bragging about how uber he'd be with a red dragon at his beck and call) the dragon made its saving throw with ease (d'oh!) R held up play for nearly an hour, arguing with the DM about how a Rod of Rulership should be above such petty things as saving throws. Despite the DM and players telling him repeatedly to shut up and live with it and get back to play, R would not back down until the DM picked up his dice, packed them away and said "Fine. That's my last session as DM. I can't do this with you acting like a childish jerk." |

| Denihilist06-22-06, 04:10 PM | I was running another game (3.0), and the players were having a hard time in my dungeon (I am evil... my dungeons scare even me sometimes). The PCs were engaged in a fight with guards in one of the storerooms. During the fighting, the party paladin, who was already low on HP got knocked senseless when a full rack of supplies fell on her. The mage is being played by her husband can't get away from what he is doing. Meanwhile, one of the low level guards, a nobody really, ran over and fired an arrow from his compound bow into the paladin's unconscious noggin. The husband and wife left the game because her I killed her character... all this despite the house rule (we had been playing for months now) on coup de grace was if you are unconscious, you can be coup de grace'd and there will be not FORT save. They refused to even resurrect her character despite the fact I gave them opportunity, and they had the money. |

| Starchaserva06-22-06, 04:45 PM | I think the worst expierience I ever had with this was about a year ago. I've made numerous mentions to my college's RPG Club and our policy of being fair and ensuring that everyone has at least one game to play in. THe downfall of this of course is shuffling the bad players around to see which DM gets them, with one in particular. This guy was king of the pussies. Thought he was the hottest thing to hit our school in years. Holds the distinction of being the only person in my entire life about whom I can say that I know not one person who has ever admitted to actually liking him. Has claimed that he has had several small movie roles, that he has been the male lead in over a dozen plays in his home area, has had off broadway roles, and even bragged that he gets recognized everytime he rides either the main train, or the subway. In addition, he has been arrested twice on campus, once for public intoxication (he threw up in the student lounge in front of a police officer) and once for attempted rape. Would say that his mother died, and that he was adopted in order to gain sympathy from people (speciffically girls) I could go on for hours about him, but here's the game. He was our party cleric, and we were about to cross a bridge. A pair of Ettins appear, and of course, his first action is too charge them before even consulting the rest of the group. Even confirms this with the DM. We all start making fun of him for being stupid...including the DM. Mind you this was after he fell asleep once during the game, and another time the DM had to kick a book out of his hands to get him to pay attention. As we chide him, he starts to sway a bit, and his head sags. He just stands up, and starts mumbling about how he can't handle this kind of stress. DM rightfully tells him to lighten up, and he starts talking about this trouble he's been having with this one girl trying to get him kicked off campus because she hates him. He walks off. And I turn and explain to the DM that the girl in question was one that accused him of rape, and he was trying to make himself sound like the victim. The group was disgusted, and suffice to say, he wasn't allowed back for the next game. |
