Since Thanksgiving is coming up here in the good ol' US of A (and since I'm kinda sick of seeing all of those "1001 Reasons Why You Hate ____" threads), I figured I'd put up a post of reasons we DMs are glad to have our PCs.

1. Our party fighter often tells the wizard to drop his fireballs on the largest number of enemies, even if he's in the area of effect. He usually can take the damage (although he has sacrificed himself to stop the BBEG once or twice), and even after the combat is over, doesn't demand being at the top of the Cleric's healing list.

Let's hear why you're thankful for your PCs :D

3. Without them, I wouldn't be able to DM!

Edit: Renumbered my post since EatFlan beat me to the #2 spot.

4. They always surprise me...sometimes they show up on time, sometimes they are 2 hours after the start time.

5. They truly understand the concept of Teamwork. At one point the entire party sold almost everything they owned to Resurrect the first casualty in the party :)

7. My PC's are the reason I do what I do. I'm thankful to have met and to be given the opertunity to DM for a group like them. They are creative and pateint. They keep me on my toes, and I am always looking for new ways to challenge them. With out them I would be a very lonely DM. They are the ones that make D&D fun and worth all the work that goes into it. I am honoured to count each everything single player in my group as a freind, so to my party: Midnight, Takisha, Thog, Reynord/Azreil, Damgood-Medic, Dalan, and Will-o-Mac, thanks for 2 years of non-stop D&D fun. Without you It just wouldn't be the same.

8) Because they're new to the game and don't know any of my dirty tricks yet

9) Because they find humour in my liberal use of the "magical boot of kicking you in the head for mispronouncing the names of people, places and things in my campaign world"

My players come up with fully fleshed-out NPC villains they want to see.

They create back stories for some of the minor NPC's they meet.

They invest in their characters and react according to how the characters would react, even if it is contrary to what they personally would do.

They cut me slack when I flub on storyline consistency

They cut me slack when I flub rules questions

They never resort to "if it doesn't go my way, I'm walking"

That's funny... it's the other way around with us. The wizard usually drops the fireball on top of the fighter and says "oh, come on, you can't make a DC 23 Reflex save?! Not MY fault!"

14) No matter how good I've planned something, they always do something I didn't think of.

15) They don't mind my house rules :P

16. They refuse to look at the DM's Guide or the Monster Manual! Even the long-time players have never ever seen any 3E books other than the PHB. That rules!

They don't mind the new Party Member coming out of Plot Hole to join them.

They can agree with me on the 'geez, this module stinks...we're ending it, villian doesnt exist'. The Eternal Bondary adventure for Planescape was ill-concieved in the getting to act 3 aspect @_@

The ony guy who's made every session doesnt mind the periodic nerfing of his character. He, in fact, vollunteers it.

19. They're unbelievable roleplayers.

20. They don't whine.

21. They're amazingly resourceful -- Professor-on-Gilligan's-Island resourceful, rather than McGuyver resourceful (meaning while they can build a nuklear bomb out of coconuts, they can't think to fix the hole in the boat).

22. They accept my rulings without question, even on the supremely-rare instances that I'm wrong.

I have great players. I have few, if any complaints. Great guys (and one Girl!).

I'm thankful that my players always bring food to the sessions. No lie, they rotate the duties of bringing some sort of food (pizza, egg-rolls, mcdonalds...whatever) and a score of Cokes. (I said score........dig me).

I'm also thankful that if i begin to rail-road, they tell me. It doesnt happen often, but it's good to know if I do.

Course, now that I'm at college I'm not with them, but they live on in my hearts. Yea, that's it.

There's always breaks.

Because they keep me on my toes as a DM and do not mind it, too much, when I tell them they are being "stat-monkeys".

Because they might play anti-heroes most the time they never forget they are still the heroes of this sick, sad, little world.

Because they do not EAT the dice (long story)....

and finally because they are my friends and I enjoy sharing my favorite past time with them.

Could you pass the fried basilisk, yummy, beholder pie....

Well, since we are not numbering it...

They are unwiiting agents of helping me create my campaign setting! :schemes:

They help me cool off..:evillaugh

they always check before they make big changes to their character sheets

they stuck with me (most of them) through the not-pretty season

at least one of them will neff his own character to make it fit the party better (a self concious fella with the natural ability to powergame)

I am grateful for my players because...

?) ...they actually think about their characters, are are more interested in how their character would act then the dice.

??) ...they have no interest in playing a half dragon half celestial tarrasque

???) If I screw up somewhere, they don't complain about it :)

35. They make me laugh so hard I have to change my shorts.

36. They understand the spirit of the game is more important than the letter of the rules.

Now i only play D&D, i havent DM'd too many games, but i do DM for Cyberpunk 2020 for the same group i D&D with. So this relates to cyberpunk.

?) they always think of a creative way to get past even the seemingly most difficult situations.

?) they dont kick in the door, start shooting everything that moves.
(i have to many players that did this in the past)

?) they arnt firm belivers in the "If it runs, its a bad guy, if it doesnt run its a WELL diciplined bad guy" way of thinking.
(same players as above)

Because they allow me to smash, melt, freeze, blow up, decapitate, slice, dice, punch, kick, slash, thwap, and pretty much smack their characters around and they still come back for more (I'm not an evil DM....I swear). :D

Oh yeah....and they realize that rules come secondary when compared to the story they are effectively creating (thats right, player's help craft it too, otherwise you would just be playing by yourself), which really helps with the "verisimilitude" (to quote the DMG) of the game.

Because they tell me that they can't look in the mirror because of me.

Because when I'm sitting at the table and start making it bump with my knee during a tense moment they actually jump.

Because (other than one guy who got hit by the slamming door on his way out) they don't look at my notes or try to peek behind the screen.

Because they didn't get upset when I uttered the phrase "Now you know what it's like to be a hand puppet."

-Because their enjoyment of playing D&D eventually triumphs over any disagreements/arguments/shouting-matches/swearing-episodes/fist-fights/knife-fights/rapier-duels/pistol-duels/centuries-long-blood-feuds that we may have.

Hmmm... this is a very old thread to be resurrecting in such a manner. Odd. Someone must have been digging through the garbage heap...

They to come live in my world, not just play with it.
