Ever have a player plop a character down in front of you to play in your game that was just too insane to conceivably allow. too powerful for any game world unless perhaps your world revolved around a cataclysmic never ending battle between gods?

well, i have.

I remember a guy that attempted to toss in a 100th lvl homebrewed deathknight that tossed 100 d6 fireballs, had a +20 vorpal undead slaying sword that cut off any creatures head or killed it instantly on any hit, supposedly controlled about a hundred layers of the abyss, all of which he wanted to use in my 14th lvl game. where upon he looked at me incredulously when i told him that he couldn't use it. then he offered to tone all of his powers down to only 14d6 fireballs per attack and a +7 vorpal undead slaying sword as long as he was allowed to keep his artifact armor that would automatically teleport him to his home dimension and resurrect him immediately if he died.

of course, he claimed that he earned all of it legitimately.

I allowed someone to play a kobold cleric (no god specified) with pants of holding, and a spell called "good cheese" (goodberry, but with cheese).
He kept a 10' staff and 2 loaded heavy crossbows in those pants...

Well lets see here.
The only one I can think of that tried to weasel into one of my games was a CG Drow Ranger named Zdritz or something of that sword. Of course he was a dual wielder, but he used rapiers and had yellow eyes so obviously wasn't a copy of every ones favorite bestseller.

Now, I have seen a Lv.20 Wizard in a game that only had 20 HPs. that4 Con really sucked for him. It was a very heavy RP campaign with little combat though, so it worked out alright for him i guess.

As for my rediculous characters. I played a Fighter/Rogue named Jelian Lee Floustan who was a novelist. He was travelling the world to write a guidebook on evil creatures and how to slay them titled Creatures of Darkness. Had Profession: Writer, Craft: Bookbinding, and Craft: Calligraphy maxed out. The funny part though, was he had an admantine writing pen crafted for him at second level as reward from the dwarves. The dwarves were honoring the group for clearing out some mines and Dwarvencrafting weapons for everyone, so I opted for an inkpen instead. My sword broke and I wound up using the inkpen as a weapon for a wopping 1 pt. of damage. At 15th level (12 fighter/3 Rogue) I had WF, WS, GWF, and GWS for my +3 Flaming Frost admantine inkpen. The DM really hated that character.

My other rediculous character wasn't actually in a D&D game, it was in a Deadlands (post-appocalyptic) game. It was a guy named Farmer Ted Kevin Joe. He drove around in his old Tractor and would kill people with his Pitchfork. Only character i've ever played that had to quickdraw a zippo before.

Really, as a DM, I'd personally love to have such a character in one of my games. It sounds like one of those things that could easily be fun as heck for both DM and Players if done right. And, really, if you can keep a fighter character alive at 15th level with an inkpen as your main weapon then you deserve some props for either great roleplaying, extremely creative usage of the rules in a DM aproved manner (since he/she apparently disliked the PC but allowed you to live), truly interesting character design, or any of the above. Either way, I'm impressed.

A friend of mine wanted to play an Awakened Cat Rogue in a campaign I was running. I would have let him but instead he went with the Half Dragon Fighter for some reason. I thought it would be hilarious to have the party walk into an inn and sit down for a mug of ale, and order a saucer of milk for their cat companion wearing magical armor and gear. He would always get a surprise round in combat for that sneak attack, though. Most enemies would just ignore a cat running around behind them, making it easy for him to flank. After that we came up with the devious idea of an Awakened Cat Asassin. Imagine a cute little cat coming up and sitting on your lap, purring for about 18 seconds, and then ripping your throat out with a Death Attack. You'd never see it coming.

Hey! Poison use as class ability! Poisoned nails... Nobody ever realizes that teh guy just went unconcious cause the cat's nails made a tiny tiny scratch...

And actually I have been thinking of the creation of a cleric who worships himself. My current Idea is to make him some lesser god. God of kebab perhaps. At sixth level leadership feat and the like so At 20th level I would actually have hundreds of followers as a god of kebab! During the leveling up I would give up all my normal cleric spells and receive spells like "Create kebab", "Purify Flafel and Kebab", "Detect Kebab", "Summon awakened Kebab I" and ofcourse the destructive 9th level spell "Kebab of vengeance"!

I MIGHT actually get this through with my DM. :D

There was one that my party and I talked about a lot, but I don't think he ever got played. He was a psion or psychic warrior, I cannot recall. However 3.0 mental leap just doubled your distance jumped and it didn't count against your total distance. So he took that as many times as possible, bought a ring of jumping, maxed out strength and ranks in jump... I can't recal if there was something else to the mix. The thing was his jump results would be in the miles. However the rules at the time declared that if you jumped in one round you landed in that round. So he was traveling not just miles in 6 seconds, but he was arching, which made his travel all the more rediculous.
So you're walking down a field, nothing for miles and out of nowhere comes this bear who had burst into flames from the air friction at his speed. A flying, flaming bear.
