9. The barkeep sometimes accepts bribes from passing ships to drug the ale. Patrons are shanghied out to sea. Sooo... you might wanna put that ale down.

10. One of the oil lamps in here opens a secret room full of dwarven treasure! (extra strong dwarven ale?). But if they catch you messing with the lamps - could be trouble.

11. See this rune carved into the tabletop? That proves it - these tables were made from the wood of the Sacred Grove of Limelith. You know, where all those druids were slain? I think the owner was in on it.

12. Did you check your change carefully? Some say they're pressing counterfit money upstairs - impure metals.

13. Aye, a cousin o' mine says he saw Fina the Talented here - aye. the famed singer. Says she's here all the time - but mostly in disguise. Also says she be willin' t' pay top coin fer the heads of those who crossed her - like her three husbands.

14. During the Firetongue Plague, the dieing were administered to down in the wine cellar. Ever since, things haven't been right. They don't even use half the space down there. Why, they say the Sou' East door hasn't been opened since.

15. Well, you know why the drought is here, dontcha? Diffender's daughter - the pregnant one? That's no ordinary baby. She laid with a deamon, she did. Brought this all upon us. I have proof, too. I know where to find her "missing lover" - or rather, his body.

16. That package-carriage that got intercepted last month? That was no ordinary robbery. Think about it - they killed the horses. Now who'd do that when a horse can fetch a pretty piece around here? Nah - you notice the deacon around lately? I haven't. I'm sure of it - the church was expecting a holy item in that shipment. And there's only two people that'd know that around here. The priest and the postman. One of 'em's in on it.

17. Professor missed instruction today - he never showed up. You know what that means, don't you. He must have gotten another tip about its whereabouts. In fact, the Egsan's fastest horse - the grey and black one - it's not in the stable. Must have been rented. And it's not cheap. Now his lady friend from the bookshop called on him during class a few days back, and I noticed him over in the merchantile district coming out of Fyrd's Curios shop. Seems like a good place to start askin' around, if you're lookin' for fun.

20. "Why, my cousin heard those 'heroes' cause all the disasters they stop. She says they're fiends walking among us mortals to stir up trouble. I don't know if I believe that, but how can they always seem to be there just in time when trouble starts? Say... you look a lot like the pictures of <pcname>..."

(This one came up at a low-level riot the PCs attended in one session. The fact of the matter was, they did start the fire that nearly destroyed the city, but it was a mistake, and they put it out as quickly as they could. Good thing the rogue's Bluff and Diplomacy checks were through the roof or that would have gotten a lot uglier.)

Now he's the last man who knows where to find the lost treasures within the Caves, but he'd need quite a bit of convincing to set foot in them again....

42. Man-eating Dire Rats have always been a problem in the town's cavernous sewer system. But recently the attacks have come to a halt for no apparent reason. Arumn Harper, a local pipeman, stumbled into the tavern one night with a wild story about seeing an army of rats obediently following a lone figure through the tunnels--of course, he was laughed off, until the disappearances started....

43. Sanvug Greentusk is an Orc from the savage frontieres, but unlike his murderous kin he has embraced the teachings of Pelor and learned to tolerate in peace human, elf, and dwarf alike. A talented blacksmith, Sanvug made a small fortune making masterwork weapons for warriors out on the frontier. Unfortunately, when he tried to move his smithy into a big city, Sanvug was harrassed and his property was destroyed by racist street gangs. He needs someone (or preferrably someones) to act as his bodyguard while he tries to win a business license from the city courts---unfortunately, charismatic elements in the local populace are busy whipping up the commoners into a frenzy against the "greenskin."

Not everybody has english as his or her first language, neither do I for that matter.

As a general rule of thumb, the people for whom English is not a first language don't make much in the way of spelling or grammatical errors. Most of the few errors are in grammar, and are recognizable with a little experience.
