Anything, as long as it's scary!

1: As the PCs descend down a staircase, they are ambushed by several zombies breaking through the steps.

Subsequently, my dad had a heart attack yesterday.

2) Made a ghostly visage of a massive battle between an Orc and Dwarven empires. The players walked into the center of the battle field and almost lost it watching the armies close on them. The subsequent adventure was collecting and returning the stolen artifacts of each dead empire.

"Subsequently, my dad had a heart attack yesterday."

Really of figuratively? I’ll assume figuratively as to the thread but this is truly scary stuff.

My dad had an angina attack during a highland games demonstration at the county fair. I watching him fall over with a caber still clutched in his arms. He ended up fine, he just overtaxed himself in the high heat, but it scared me deeply.

3. Walking along a dungeon corridor and fail to notice a drop-trap. Floor drops out beneath us, and 2 party members land about 20 feet down, the rest successfully making reflex saves to jump clear. Myself was bright enough to look up and notice a secondary trap joined to the first, to drop a slab of rock into the hole, nicely sealing it, weighing in at several tons. Uh.. see you next lifetime?

4. Succubus. Everyone else fails the kiss. I'm alone, amid a group of "allies" that now are attempting to kill me, with no knowledge that this is going on until the party Minotaur charges me ... along with everyone else behind him.

5) Your party walks through a Dungeon, when the paladin falls into a pit of spikes, as he is impailed, the ceiling above the trap opens as countless nightcrawlers with sharp teeth, fall on top of the paladin. The nightcrawlers dig into the open wounds, devouring him from the inside-out.

6) Stranded in the abyss, your party grows hungry, they turn to you, and begin to eat you alive.

Unfortunately, he really did have a heart attack. I just called him at the hospital, going to visit him tommorow.

I'm hope your dad is okay, Chippy, I hope he makes a quick recovery.

I know this is a bit off topic, but when you said this:

...Subsequently, my dad had a heart attack yesterday.

The way you wrote that it sounds like it happened directly after the zombies coming from under the stairs.

Wow. Bummer. Sorry, bud.

Anyway, on a lighter note:

7: The PC's find a treasure hoard from a pirate ship and are just beginning to search though it, when all of a sudden the skeletal crew of the ship rises from the pile.

8: The face of the Paladin that has lead the PC's safely through the Dungeon of Unspeakable Evil suddenly disfigures and morphs into that of a demon, and the Paladin (well, anti-paladin now) turns on the PC's.

I ran this.

9) "As you attempt to crush the worm, it begins burrowing into your foot."
It took them 3 out of four rounds to cut the Kyuss worm out of the body.

10) They entered a room. The assasin inside dodged the fireball and cast obscuring mist. The characters went back to back and stood still. Suddenly, the assassin jumps out of the fog and... instantly kills the barbarian.

That freaked ME out.

11. You chase a pretty powerful NPC into a room after he closes the door behind him. Inside the room is dark but by the light seeping in from the hall you see the NPC gutted on the floor.

12. "Behind you, you hear the low growl ...
of a zipper dropping." GRRRrrrrrr.

13. You feel the sand beneath your feet shift slightly...Suddenly A 50 foot long centipede emerges drippign venom and that old canterkerous druid you were talking has a very dark light in his eyes.

14. The party is hunted by a dark cloud in a corridor that twists and turns out of erraticaly. All caught in the cloud die instantly. The end of the corridor leads to a room without escape routes. Then the party wakes up to realize it was a nightmare and find the 'dead' PCs having spasms.

This might be a bit of meta-terror.

14. Party is camping and a chost ship (phantasm, no game stats) comes screaming through the evening fog. party scatters. Dopplegangers attack, players have no idea if they're playing their own characters or the dopples until they attack. DM (Me) goes upstairs and gets Ravenloft books...

No, I didn't send them to ravenloft, but the rest of the night the party was metagaming and convinced that because they had those books staring at them, they were.

The bard looks out of the inn window out to the water and see's a hundred or so pairs of red eyes staring back at him, as he blinks and rubs his eyes, they disappear. He turns back to his mead, only for the server to show up to ask if he wants more, the bard looks at the table to check, turns back, and the server is gone, the window that was closed behind him, open.

Hope your Dad is recovering well chippy.

The red dragon wheels in the air coming in for another attack on the party. He misses the party with his breathe weapon, but the ice bridge you're standing on breaks into pieces beneath the flaming onslaught.

18. My players spent about half an hour trying to figure out a way to determine if they were in a fake reality after an encounter with a pair of Cerebrixes (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=678124). They're still not sure even after I completely reassured them that they hadn't been caught and the NPC behind the things did too!
