4. They leave a door just because it's locked and the thief can't pick the lock.

5. They survey the evil, erie looking castle that the bandits they are looking for are hiding at in the middle of the day and then make camp next to the castle.

6. They believe everything evil creatures tell them.

Nothing wrong with paladins. They're harder to play than most characters. Most people can't play them properly or are limited in thier vision. Favorite: Scythe wielding Orc paladin of WeeJass. Perfectly viable.

13. they actually trust you. [I'm an evil DM]

17) The PC fails to realize the DM asking "Are you sure you wanna do that?" twice probably means doing the action in question is hazardous to one's health.

18) "Bodak, you say? Forget the rest of the party! Charge!"

19) Members of the group kill a few dozen monks without a second thought, rob a jewelry store, abduct a member of a powerful nation's ruling council, and burn down a nobleman's house (among other crimes)... and then proceed to complain about how unfair the DM is when guards come their way with a warrant for their arrest while they're in the capitol city.

20) Player makes a militantly faithless character in the Forgotten Realms, whines about how unfair the DM is when the PC dies... And then proceeds to make his next character faithless as well.

21. after the rest of the group formed a defensive position, the lone player decided to run 300 ft away and charged alone against size huge gargoyle with bare hands. (no a monk or monk like class)

22. after getting shot full of arrows and borderline dying, moves 60 ft away from the cleric and still stay on top of the horse without any cover to get shot up by arrows again...

Yall two got nothing on danielinthewolvesden for inapropriate posts. Seriously, who ever said that all of the players are morons, but usually there's at least someone who acts like one sometimes. Anyway.

28) (In Ravenloft) One of the players wants to play a half-elf sorcerer that wears a black, hooded robe and carries a scythe.

29) (Same campaign) They have to find 13, 300-year-old skeletons scattered all over town, so after hearing the museum has skeletons, seeing that only two come from that time period, and only two others are even close, two of the characters decide to steal all seven. When six of them turn out to not be the right ones, one of them dumps the rest down a chimeny.

I'm with Danielinthewolvesden, it seems that whilst many of these might seem funny, they can be pretty insulting, and seem to often be the result of PC's not doing whatever it is the DM intended. If the PC's are behaving like morons, then there's some chance that they feel the DM is encouraging it.

Back to how to tell your PC's are morons: -

30. The DM allows people to play in his game, and then thinks that they're morons for playing his campaign.

EDIT: My mistake that post should be on the Players Board for 1001 reasons the DM is a moron.

32. They taunt the DM with comments like, "Well, she can't have a third fireball!" or "I know there's not a body, but there's no way he survived that explosion."

33. They assume the DM will never let them die, and when he does, they assume the DM will bring them back.

35. A group of four Level 3 adventurers is given the option of bargaining for something that they need, or going into the Underdark and stealing it from the f---ing drow. None of them are minmaxed or munchkinized at all, but they decide that they'll just waltz into Menzoberranzan, take the artifact, and walk out.

F---ing morons almost get a f---ing TPK, before even running into the f---ing drow. These are experienced players too - I've been playing with them for three years. Morons.

07-02-04, 03:15 PM
36. While looking into a cavern where a brown bear is sleeping and deciding whether to sneak past the bear or attack it while sleeping, they, instead, send the rogue to rifle through a ripped sack of copper coins to see if there is anything more valuable.

(Bear wakes up and sorcerer gets batted across the room.)

There are plenty of ways to discuss playesr who make odd or poor roleplaying decisions without calling them "moron". In fact- "morons" would normally be incapable of playing D&D or posting to this board. It is a very rude term (now, it used to have a specific medical meaning), and should not be bandied about casually.

I have done volunteer work with real morons ("mentally handicapped" is the new PC term.) They are people too, even if not very bright. They try so very hard. Don't use a term that applies to these special people to call names of some players who just plain made silly decisions.

38. PCs that blame their adolescent behavior (stealing from other PCs, being disruptive, refusing to go along with the other PCs) on their "character concept" and/or alignment.

Such behavior is most often due to the passive-aggressive acting out on the part of the player that created the PC.

The cleric, while chasing the wizard, fails a wilderness lore check and accidentally sprints out into the center of a large patch of quicksand. He begins drowning. The force resulting from this flow is so great that the individual grains of sand are pushed apart from one another. It is this separation that leaves the ground unable to support an object on its surface. However, it is still water- contratry to hollywood, you will "float" in quicksand. 56: Evil cleric walks up to the good ranger that he has geased into helping him. Said ranger is standing at the edge of a large hole and looking down into the darkness. Cleric: "So, what's in the hole?" Ranger pushes him in.

57: Halfling wizard sees a band of goblins aproaching. Rather than running away, he waits to see what they want. They draw their weapons. He stands still. They surround him. He stands there. They take all his money, equipment, and clothing. He figures they'll let him go. Goblins decide to eat him. He casts fireball, centered on himself. Nukes all the goblins, but he's now at -1 hp....

61) Player:I pick the lock.
DM: You hear a click.
Player: I pick it again.

And one from a group where I was a PC...

62) We go through a door, and as the rogue pushes it open (as he touches the door), he has to save vs. disintegrate. He enters the room and then says "I close the door behind me." He saved again. The cleric opened it and had to save. The rest of the party walked in, and then they shut the door again, still just by grabbing the handle. The room was a dead end, and they had to open it again, still without even using a pole. No-one died, but a few people sure deserved to.

*LMAO*

I have got to give props for these...definitely my favorites. The first one (3 torches and no tinderbox) actually happened with my group once. That was certainly a lot of fun as they were stuck on an island (to check out a subterranean crypt) and their ride wouldn't be back for almost a week. I kept it in play. They actually had this argument (paraphrasing from memory):

Bob: I thought you picked up the tinderbox!
Ken: I didn't even get a torch! Hope picked one up for me while I was at the temple.
Hope: Well I figured that Bob picked one up as he went to the store first.
Bob: Ok, wait, I got an idea. Ken, do you have a burning hands memorized?
Ken (obviously a mage): All I have is a couple magic missles, a charm, and a few chromatic orbs. I have a fireball though.

What the party ended up doing (and I allowed it just because it was so funny) was that Ken cast a fireball, while Bob held the torch at arm's legth at the edge of the AoE. Hope (who was a cleric), had cast a protection from fire spell on him so he wouldn't get toasted. They never forgot a tinderbox again. :D

It definitely one of the most hilarious gaming moments we ever had.

The players travel for months to see the mighty sorceror in his tower on the plains of the Deep Wilds for a cure to the curse that has affected the party druid from a cursed ruby embedded into a mace (pauses for air), push on the huge stone double doors for a second, then decide that opening it is impossible and begin the journey back home.

92. The mind flayer wannabes have no concept of fairness or ECL, and when told that they will be unfairly advantaged, tell the DM that was the whole point. The dragon guy dies at least fifty or sixty times on a three day long series of quests to get a dragon.

104) they sell an item that the DM said " are you SURE you want to sell that?"
105) they complain about a item they are given the option to buy when the DM goes " Wow that is a really nice ability!"
106) they tell the DM to "roll faster!" and then count out numbers when he is adding up results of damage

107: They tell the DM the dungeon is "Too easy and an idiot could have designed harder monsters then that."

108: They carry ALL of their gold with them when they visit the Rouges quarter.

109: They tell you they can't ALL be killed at the same time.

111)The party enters a dark underground outpost and when the druid attempts to move silently and fails making a slight noise, the party's wizard yells in game "good job dumbass"

112)The party's fighter and wizard converse in loud voices as to what to do about the loud breathing they hear on the other side of the door while the rest of the party unknowingly searches the rest of the room for traps and loot on two bodies propped up against a pillar.

113)The party's half-orc fighter charges and slams into the same door as stated above, a reinforced steel door and fails falling to the ground, then the halfling wizard uses the fighter's body as a trampoline in an attempt to add to his jump as he too tries to "force" the door open.

114)The halfling wizard is always first through the door and is always on the front line.

115)While walking next to two characters incased in clanking metal armor, the parties ranger tries to move silently.

116)The party wonders why the party's rogue is always shaking her head.

117)The party wonders why I (the DM) asks continuously "are you SURE you want to DO that?"

I always feel sorry for the rogue whenever we play.

Two of the three level seven characters get dropped to -hp by a lesser flame snake... which did not attack first... and the druid attacked without trying to speak to (could have avoided the encounter. the concious character, further, does not decide to try healing the others until the flame snake is defeated. Not really morons, but this was their dumbest moment. surprisingly, no one died.

113: They are being hunted by evil knights while criticaly injured. They see a small cave in the side of the cliff. The party's reaction was to block off the cave with a boulder so any monsters in there would be trapped. The cave was the only way to escape the evil knights...

114: They come across an old witch which orders to hide them from the evil knights in exchange for 100gp each. The party huddle for a moment, then deside to kill the witch, under the assumption that she gets a lot of gold from a lot of travelers, so she must be rich, and good lootin.

115: When the evil knights catch up with them and hack down their 10 hp bodies, they say "But you didnt give us anywhere to hide!"

The number one way to tell if a DM is a moron- he thinks he has only morons for players. This is a very rude thread. I hope you never get any good players!

Shut up these things are hella funny. Besides being stupid could be a compliment for playing your character. After all if you have a low intelegence you get to do stupid things.

Not even bothering to number since it seems to have gotten wonky...

They think their character gets all special abilities, homelands, gods, and special items a movie/anime/comic book character gets just because they give their character the same name. (I really don't think the player in question is a moron... hell, he's a great guy to hang around with. He just likes making D&D characters to replay movies and anime...)

They think their Lawful Good character taking Exalted feats isn't held to a higher standard than a normal Lawful Good character, and that their character may bend rules to their benefit in order to avoid being overtly "evil" and still KEEP their exalted feats. The player will soon become very ****** when I kill off his poorly played character, and hopefully I (as a DM) will get out of the resulting argument with all my teeth and one less player... or at least one less player-killing LAWFUL GOOD character...
