| Meshakhad05-11-05, 08:57 PM | Has your BBEG died a terrible/embarrassing death? Or have you imagined it happening? Post here! 1. The human wizard, out of spells, with Str 8, and armed with a staff, gets an instant death on the raging ogre barbarian BBEG (imagined, but not real) |

| DeWayne05-12-05, 01:00 AM | The NPC noble that the party was supposed to rescue got cursed with lycanthropy. When the party shows up to save him he failed his roll to keep his shape under control and (literally) tore the bad guy to pieces before the party had a chance to do anything. I guess it serves me rights for buying a module rather than writing my own adventures - what a waste. |
| Rumple_Cragstan05-12-05, 01:17 AM | This one was a great peice of work. The party had infiltrated the lair of an imposing enemy army. They went through the entire place making all thier good MS and Hide checks, not doing anything dumb. They sneak into the BBEG's room (in a stone building, so all but soundproof), letting the rogue silently dispatch his guards. The BBEG had heard them coming and slid into the secret compartment in his room, allowing him to get the suprise round - he was a Ftr/Rog, so suprise round was going to be REALLY nice with his 4d6 sneak. Well the PCs get there, they open the door and find the place empty. The fighter volunteers to go in alone, just in case there's some traps or an ambush or something. He takes a step into the room, and looks around. After a few moments, the BBEG gets the idea that the fighter is not getting any reinforcements and attacks. I roll a natural 1 on a charge. Next round, init is rolled, fighter goes first. Critical hit with his scythe, rolling nearly max damage (not to mention the unholy bonus of the power attack), killing the BBEG in a single strike. Now from the other PCs point of view - they just went through the entire campt to kill the uber-l33t badass general. Then they see him suprise thier fighter out of nowhere - but he trips over his own feet in the middle of the charge. Then the fighter turns around and decapitates him in a single strike. How is that for an anti-climax. Needless to say, the party sneaks back out of the camp with a very unsatisfies feeling. The fighter actualy spent a good 20 minutes of RP when they got back to the inn, complaining about how sorry the fight was to the rest of the party. |
| Samusic05-12-05, 02:57 AM | Very near death, the cleric uses a healer's kit on me - and rolls a one, killing me. Yes, the DM pretended not to see it. |
| R-man05-12-05, 03:32 AM | Return to Tomb of Horrors module in 2nd edition. I had run a long complicated campaign involving having to kill Acerack the Necromancer, Acerack the Lich, Acerack the Demi-Lich and then again in Return kill Acerack the Demi-Lich again once and for all (Timetravel involved). There is only three pcs; Roderic the Paladin, Rebaush a Fighter/Mage, and Niobe a Cleric of Istus. Unknown to the party Istus for various campaign specific reasons has allowed her physical form to be destroyed and her soul is presently inhabiting Niobe her most powerful worshipper. So they enter the final room, Acerack is a fully active Demi-Lich who is flying around the room killing a PC each round no save. 1st round, Party gets initiative attack and do damage to Acerack, Paladin has a +5 longsword and the Fighter mage has a minor artifact weapon that is capable of damaging and destroying undead. Both Pc's do damage to Acerack. Niobe runs across the room to a door to try and cut off Acerack's escape. Acerack sucks a soul out of Niobe and she keeps on going the players go "what the???". 2nd round, Party still has the initiative, Roderic and Rebaush both hit Aceracks absurdly high AC and kill him, but wait he just transfers his essence to another undead in the dungeon. There is only one undead left, the party has destroyed all of them except for the Super-Wight in the next room. Niobe runs into the room and kills the Super-Wight in one blow, just as Aceracks essence is going into the Wight. Battle over. Acerack got ONE action. We all had a good laugh over what was supposed to be a massively epic battle instead being a minor little speedbump. So then they got to go through the gate in the back of the Wight room and do the H4 module (Go to the Abyss and kill Orcus in his home). That was a good battle. |
| monkmania05-12-05, 03:44 AM | I wasn't DM'ing this campaign, but the wizard I was playing with cast Ray of Enfeeblement on the BBEG who happened to be a wizard as well. He made the ranged touch attack and rolled the maximum possible on the strength drain.... The BBEG collapsed from the weight of his own robes, and was easily killed in the following round. :P |
