with all the 101 lists popping up, i thought i'd add one
So basically, some creative ways to use very normal items.
i'll start out with a few, i'd realy like some witty and smart ways to use those item that normally go unused and are ignored in the big Item-table.

1) Using a piton to stop a door from opening

2) Using a bottle on the doorknob as an alarm

3) spears stabbed in the ground (point up) to block a passage

4) alchemists fire under some leaves (landmine anyone?)

5) barrel of lamp oil and a fuse. (bombs)

6) catapults launching people with Featherfall (paratroopes, sort of)

7) when there's no bridge to cross a river, take a large pole, stick in in the river(still leaning to your side). make a run to the pole, jump. climb up, swing acros and land.

Hmm... the barrel of lamp oil would set a very nice blaze, but I don't think it would explode. To have an explosion, you need to build up a great amount of pressure; and to build up that pressure, you'd need to have more of the lamp oil burning; to have it burn, you need oxygen, which it won't get until the barrel does break open...

In short--great for arsons, not so much for bombings. A barrel of black powder, now, if your campaign supports the technology... is another story.

In fact--

8.) Using a barrel of black powder to blow open the entrance to a cave, which had been previously capable of being held by four defenders at a time... so that it now requires sixteen. (My Evil Army used this strategy--in my estimation, it shortened the length of the siege on the inhabitants of the cave by a month or more, to less than a week.)

I always thought of a Mcguiverism as taking a paperclip and a piece of blue-tack and making a small nuclear bomb.

"Don't tell me you can make a bomb out of chewing gum."
"Why, have you got some?"

Sorry, I got nothing, but I like that quote....
