| Lord_Karl04-27-05, 09:25 PM | You know 'em. You love 'em. It's . . . . KOBOLDS!!!! OK people we need to find 101 reasons why kobolds rock. Any ideas? 1) They talk like dogs 2) They're crafty and sadistic |
| The Weave0504-27-05, 09:29 PM | 3) you can throw em at stuff 4)have a CR of 1/6 5)taste good with soup 6)are up on these boards 3 posts in a row |
| Sarella Starshine04-27-05, 09:36 PM | 7) with proper templates and classes can scare the bejebus out of goblins and orcs 8) with proper templates and classes can scare the bejebus out of your players  9) when toasted over a fire they make a nice delicious cruchy noise |
| DM Ront04-27-05, 09:46 PM | 10) They can make a handy weapon (see my sig) 11) The looks you get when you play one 12) They are technically a LA+0 dragon race 13) My players fear them more than the undead |
| twad04-27-05, 09:50 PM | 14- They are aerodynamic. 15- Make "pop" noises when killed with *insertweirdname* instant fortress. 16- make good unusual NPCs 17- With PC classes(and PrC if you feel evil), they dont die in one shot, instantly getting the attention of the PCs.. |
| Quarterstaff04-27-05, 09:56 PM | 18. they are infinitly amusing when fighting 19. they are the race that most commonly hase the halfdragon template (as my players find out most dangerously) 20. they if dmed properly can take out a level 8 party. i did it too (aid another and craft trap is beutiful) |
| Burgundy Lotus04-27-05, 10:02 PM | 21) They stay crunchy, even in milk 22) They are almost always underestimated by the party if played correctly 23) They live in really cramped tunnels unsuitable for two handed weapons and creatures larger then small |
| Thonili_Moonbringer04-27-05, 10:04 PM | 24. "Don't worry, it's still just a kobold, even if it is the chief. I bet the glowing spikes on that scimitar are just for show." Critical, aaaaaand...confirmed. "Oh my Torm, it just took off the cleric's head!!!" |
| Iron Kobold04-27-05, 10:56 PM | 25: They have a DEX modifier of +2... 26: Racial Skills: A kobold character has a +2 racial bonus on Craft (trapmaking), Profession (miner), and Search checks 27: +1 natural armor bonus. 28: Darkvision out to 60 feet 29: Small size: +1 bonus to Armor Class, +1 bonus on attack rolls, +4 bonus on Hide checks, -4 penalty on grapple checks, lifting and carrying limits ¾ those of Medium characters... 30: Favored Class: Sorcerer. Can you say Rogue/Sorcerer.... And if their such great miners and they can cast a mean spell or two.. can you say Kobold Guild of magical weapons... Fighter: What the #$%^&* is that little scaly rat doing with a +3 sword of Human slaying... Wizard: I don't know but there three of those punks hanging from a chandilier with wands of MM. Cleric: Palor why have you forsaken me!!! Damn little scaly #$%^&*( get them off me! |
| LordArkan04-27-05, 11:04 PM | 31. They have a skeletal structure. :smirk: |
| daejiny04-28-05, 12:26 AM | 32. They make great encounter situations en masse. :D |
| Kinger04-28-05, 12:39 AM | 33. "Skippy the Vicious" is a perfectly suitable name for a Kobold BBEG. 34. There's much to be said for 5 1st level Sorceror Kobolds whomping a 5th level Wizard with Magic Missile. "Quick! Before he Fireballs us!" BZZZAPP! 35. The Kobold Sorceror mini. I mean, c'mon! Does that little dude NOT look badass? 36. They're essentially genetically predisposed to hating gnomes. Other races have to work at it. |
| Judging Eagle04-28-05, 01:45 AM | 37. Even with 5 levels of sorcerer an other equal level of sorcerer, 10 fiendish dire weasels, a tanked-out champion and a dozen crossbow weilding warrirors Kobolds go down like flies to even a band of 10 2nd lvl PCs (they sort of always had the rogue and ranger and the bard's formian friend to scout/hide/sneak ahead at all times). 38. You can have kobold warrens ANYWHERE (so you can harrass people anywhere). 39. Kobolds make good slaves, they're weak individually, and with a group of powerful PCs and their goblin mine operators the kobolds will do as they are told 40. Their racial modifier to mining makes them excellent slaves for a mining operation 41. Kobold slaves make great appeasment tools for Gnomish communities. Sure they hate kobolds, but anyone who enslaves those nasty brutish kobolds and helps Gnomes fight/enslave more of them is a good guy in gnomish books. |
| Jerivar04-28-05, 03:55 AM | 42. Enough of them spit-roasted via a fireball can feed an army for weeks. |
| Merestil Haye04-28-05, 07:57 AM | 43. Kobold warrens filled with pit traps make the PCs appreciate the finer things in life. Like the plank they use to cross the pits safely while the attacking PCs fail jump checks and fall to the bottom of the pit. |
| Syrus The Red05-26-05, 02:53 PM | 44-100) I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds... *edit: I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, I like kobolds, |
| PlaidViking05-26-05, 03:09 PM | 45. Kobold liches |
| JakeQuistis05-26-05, 03:19 PM | 46. Meepo |
| The Shaman05-26-05, 03:39 PM | 47. Because...um...'cause they...no...uh...they are...hmmm... Nope, can't think of a single reason. |
| High Octane05-26-05, 03:46 PM | 47. Kobolds are the D&D equivelant to chicken McNuggets. You need at least 6 to make them vaguely worthwhile and 20 of them to be real satisfying. |
| Da Dinictus05-26-05, 03:47 PM | 48. Because of their favoured class and their innate bond with the magics of the world, they make excellent surprise leaders of mage guilds in communities. 49. Kobolds also could make very nifty half-breeds with humans, I seem to have gotten the impression from my players :) 50. They will flank you. 51. Dead kobolds don't float. 52. They make the perfect matter of ridicule for self-made spells: what's better than a raving kobold? An actually raving kobold, with glowsticks, whistle, and negative modifiers to all kobolds watching the summoned critter rave! |
| Rednaxela05-26-05, 03:49 PM | 48 they make funny PC 49 are great at ambushes 50 Why not they are beter than goblins 51 becouse Meepo represents them |
| High Octane05-26-05, 03:55 PM | Who the heck is Meepo? |
| Astinex05-26-05, 04:04 PM | 53) The slow running ones make those scaly brown spots in between Hill Giant toes. 54) Ever hear the Kobold Canticle Choir sing the Kobold National Anthem? 55) They are great with peanut butter and celery. 56) I used one to coup de grāce a 10th Lvl Paladin. Man did that frustrate him. 57) Nothing says "ZERG ATTACK" like an army of a 1000 Kobolds! Who the heck is Meepo? You don't know what your missing. Vote for Meepo (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20050510a) |
| Lord Dracos05-26-05, 04:06 PM | 58) Because my half blue dragon Kobold mastermind "Lord Trapper" breeds Dire Animals, has enslaved a air elemental monolith, and LOATHES non-reptillian life. 59) Because they are going to overtake orcs and goblins as the classical adventurer fodder/ foe. 60) :D :D :D :D :D ... :D Like the taste of Gnome-flesh! |
| cambric05-26-05, 04:07 PM | Who the heck is Meepo? Neverwinter Nights...he plays a Bard, and one HECK of a bard!! He's in the undermountain adventure. I thought he was "stupid" at first...go into battle and suddenly you're buffed with like 6-7 things, he goes nuts and practically kills everything for you. And he's got a great personality. I liked him. Cam |
| Xanthia05-26-05, 04:14 PM | 61) 15 AC at CR 1/6 62) 3.0 rules have them at 2 HP. You'll never have to keep track of HP per Kobold in an encounter if all of the PCs who melee with them have at least a 12 STR. PC: 16 with my bastard sword! DM: You hit the kobold! PC: (Rolls damage - gets a 1) Um, with my +1 STR bonus, I did 2 damage (blushes) DM: The kobold is down for the count! |
| Syrus The Red05-26-05, 04:24 PM | 47. Kobolds are the D&D equivelant to chicken McNuggets. You need at least 6 to make them vaguely worthwhile and 20 of them to be real satisfying. :ayyyy!:   I'm qoute'n this! |
| Wayward Son05-26-05, 05:07 PM | Neverwinter Nights...he plays a Bard, and one HECK of a bard!! He's in the undermountain adventure. I thought he was "stupid" at first...go into battle and suddenly you're buffed with like 6-7 things, he goes nuts and practically kills everything for you. And he's got a great personality. I liked him. Cam Also, he shows up in the published adventure The Sunless Citadel, as the "Keeper of Dragons" for the kobold tribe. Basically, he's the one who feeds the wyrmling White dragon they captured and worship. Played well, he's also one of the most interesting NPCs in the game. Check out the Creature Competition for more on Meepo. He's in week 8, paired against the Celestial Dire Badger. |
| Flushmaster05-26-05, 06:33 PM | That badger is going down. Seriously, am I the only one that thinks the concept of a dire badger is ridiculous? To make it celestial on top of that...bleah. Meepo's gonna kick it's ass. 63: Kobolds warlocks make great cohorts. Really, trust me. |
| Flushmaster05-26-05, 06:39 PM | Fighter: What the #$%^&* is that little scaly rat doing with a +3 sword of Human slaying... Wizard: I don't know but there three of those punks hanging from a chandilier with wands of MM. Cleric: Palor why have you forsaken me!!! Damn little scaly #$%^&*( get them off me! That's great. Seriously, I love it. |
| Flushmaster05-26-05, 06:39 PM | Whoops, double post. |
| tiercel05-26-05, 06:59 PM | 64. Even though players know that kobolds take class levels and even though they know that a kobold presence means lots of fiendish traps, it's still nearly the ultimate humiliation to be defeated by kobolds. PCs just can't let it go - it's a matter of honor! 65. Traps, traps, traps. If you have those fiendish ideas or books of traps, kobolds give you the ultimate excuse to use them. USE THEM ALL! BWU HA HA HA!!! *ahem* |
| Helmed Horror05-26-05, 07:05 PM | 66.) Their land speed is 30ft even though they are small. |
| Sargon05-27-05, 11:55 AM | 39. Kobolds make good slaves, they're weak individually, and with a group of powerful PCs and their goblin mine operators the kobolds will do as they are told I was waiting on that one... Kobolds DO make good slaves. |
| cvazi05-27-05, 12:10 PM | they aren't halflings. . . (Now those things I HATE!) |
| AramilWindwalker05-27-05, 12:18 PM | they aren't halflings. . . (Now those things I HATE!) That is quite true, but i prefer goblins on to the count... 68)they are small and cute |
| KoboldSlayer05-27-05, 12:21 PM | 67. Kobolds have killed more of my player's characters than any other creature. 68. The look on a player's face when their character dies by kobold... 69. Kobold frenzied berserkers with deathless frenzy. There's nothing quite like watching powerful characters run in terror from a short dude with a bad attitude that just won't die. It's like the Energizer Bunny meets Cujo. |
| Planar Wanderer05-27-05, 01:26 PM | Neverwinter Nights...he plays a Bard, and one HECK of a bard!! He's in the undermountain adventure. I thought he was "stupid" at first...go into battle and suddenly you're buffed with like 6-7 things, he goes nuts and practically kills everything for you. And he's got a great personality. I liked him. Cam Just one minor point: that's Deekin, not Meepo |
| PlaidViking05-27-05, 01:46 PM | 70. Kobold village being attacked with a fireball=KOBOLD PANIC!!! 71. Kobolds make surprisingly filling meals |
| Relanir05-27-05, 02:13 PM | Neverwinter Nights...he plays a Bard, and one HECK of a bard!! He's in the undermountain adventure. I thought he was "stupid" at first...go into battle and suddenly you're buffed with like 6-7 things, he goes nuts and practically kills everything for you. And he's got a great personality. I liked him. Cam actually, that one's name is Deekin edit:nevermind......stupid computer not showing that there was a second page.... |
| cambric05-27-05, 04:16 PM | Just one minor point: that's Deekin, not Meepo DOH! You and Relanir are correct...it's been ages since I played that game. Thank you for the correction. :tiphat: Cam |
| juggernaughteagle12-30-05, 03:07 PM | 72. Pun-Pun |
| Rhomphaia12-30-05, 03:16 PM | 73) Great conversations at a gaming table (see my sig). 74) Any well-run adventure into a kobold warrens will result in a TPK or near TPK. |
| Pellanor12-30-05, 03:43 PM | we seemed to have skipped a few... 77. In a pinch, they make great footballs(Soccer). 78. In a pinch, they make great footbals(American). 78b. Canadians have Bigger Balls. |
| Cathon12-30-05, 03:51 PM | 79. Tucker's Kobolds (http://forums.rpghost.com/archive/index.php/t-11686.html) 80. Deekin (Doomdoomdoomdoom, doomdoomdoomdoom!) |
| HalasterAteMyHamster12-30-05, 04:27 PM | 81. Deekin (it needs to be repeated) |
| UmbraLux12-30-05, 04:30 PM | Tucker's kobolds...need anything else be said? |
| Realms of Chaos12-30-05, 07:58 PM | 82: As a long story made short, a member in my party walked up to some %$#*&^@! kobolds (those were pretty much his words) and they said they were busy. Tell me when you get it. My entire party did. :D |
| Deekin12-30-05, 09:37 PM | 83: In d20 modern, having a kolbold fast 3/gunslinger 3 with twin SMGs lead the PCs in a merry chase through a boobytraped warehouse turned kolbold warren, laden with claymores, c4 and other nasty modern explosives |
| allencon12-30-05, 10:19 PM | There is one and only one name that makes kobolds better than anything out there... Pun-Pun. Lol, just kidding... yuck now I feel dirty for bringing up that build. |
| kallisti2312-30-05, 11:54 PM | 84. Because, dear friends, kobolds are the heirs to dragons. |
| Tamelo12-31-05, 11:13 AM | 72. Pun-Pun I cannot believe it took until 72 for someone to say that! 85. They are a small creature with 30 ft. speed. 86. Fights in their caves will medium-sized charecters penalties for fighting in cramped conditions. 87. They use tactics. |
