| shadowflamedancer08-18-04, 10:06 PM | The 101 whatever seems to to be the latest fad, so I figured I would go with something that I could always use more of. I'll start us out. More roleplaying based encounters, and adventures where the pen and the tongue rule more so than the sword and the axe. Let's start each one with some kind of a title, and try and remember to number them. (like thats gonna happen  lol) 1) A murder at the king's court. Could be the king that was killed, or just somebody high up, such as his advisor, or royal mage. The palace is put in a lockdown until the murederer is found. 2) Wartime aligiances. The PCs need to convince a certain individual/state/province to support thier side in the coming war. They may need to deal with racial prejeduces or closed mindedness. |
| TeenageGodDM08-19-04, 08:50 AM | 3) A new discovery The overlord of the main town receives a letter from a previously unknown town that wishes to open trade and a main road. The PC's are sent to establish contact with the town, but along the way, they are forced to enter a dense forest, and a huge thunderstorm erupts. The PC's are attacked by a group of Zombie Hounds and are forced into a strange mansion, where strange puzzles and Zombie-like monsters assault them at every turn. (Resident Evil anyone?) |
| Nephitus08-19-04, 12:14 PM | 4) The Gauntlet A nearby city is sponsoring an event that pits the PC's against a complex labyrinth filled with deadly traps and monsters. The first group to make it completely through the labyrinth and retrieve a valuable gem (guarded by a terrifying monster/dragon depending on the PC's levels), then return the gem to the event's coordinators will receive a very large prize. Unfortunately, the prize as of yet lays unclaimed... |

Unfortunately, the prize as of yet lays unclaimed... 5) The Gauntlet (Alternative) You might also have it not be the first group, but the first person. This coaxes the PC's into fighting amongst themselves for the gem, and could also indicate that other NPC groups are inside. It would be easier if you said only SubDual damage is dealt. |
| Nephitus08-19-04, 02:59 PM | heh, couldn't resist this one: 6) You DM Was Too Lazy To Prepare For This Adventure Nothing at all is happening. The world is boring, and it's up to the PC's to stir the flames and deal with the repercussions! For maximum effect, the PC's should probably wake up in a prison with the guard asleep and the keys easily in reach. All their stuff is around the corner on a table. 7) Diety in Danger A god (if you have a cleric or paladin, it should be theirs. Otherwise, just pick one) approaches each of the PC's in a dream and assigns them a task. A rival god's followers are preparing a ritual to banish the PC's god forever, and the PC's must stop them before they are able to complete their mission. 8) Cry for Help The PC's happen across a commoner running from a horde of orcs/goblins/whatever during their travels. After dispatching the monsters, the commoner informs them that the villiage he or she hails from has been under attack from the orcs/goblins/whatevers for months. He or she is the first to escape the city to get help, and wouldn't have made it herself if she hadn't happened across the PC. 9) It's Not the Size that Counts An evil wizard has concocted a plan to take over the world, but has forseen his defeat at the hands of the PC's. To prevent this from happening, he disguises himself as a commoner and casts a spell on the PC's that permanently shrinks them to Tiny size. Now even the smallest of creatures are formidable foes to the party as they fight to find a way to return themselves to normal size and defeat the wizard that has shrunk them. |
| Hochi-min trail08-19-04, 06:11 PM | 10) speech! speech! speech! - the PC's save a small sea shore town from pirates, take everything that was on the pirate ship, and are then forced to make a speech in the party for their victory and the town being saved. |
| shadowflamedancer08-21-04, 12:17 PM | 11) A Funeral. A former PC or NPC cohort is given a proper burial (first time for everything). The preperations and rituals performed are those of the deceased's homeland, and are strange and exotic to the PCs. They play a specific part in the ritual, whether it be carrying the body, sprinkling holy water, or goving a eulogy. This can also be done with a famous NPC who was 'offstage' while alive, a 'people's hero', or even a monstrous hero such as a LG Minotaur Paladin (even the strongest of PCs may stugle carrying that body). |
| Sildatorak08-21-04, 03:27 PM | 12) Gate Crashing. The PC's hop through a portal/get planeshifted/hostilely teleported and find themselves in the middle of a sheik's harem. Strange men in the women's portion of the tent results in chaos and the PC's eventual trial at the hands of the council of elders. After the PC's either end up banished or accepted as guests of the tribe, the tribe's wise woman approaches them in secret. She has a vision that they are the ones who must stop the rot that is growing in the tribe. Much tactful information gathering ensues as the PC's get closer and closer to the truth that the sheik's new wife is actually an Erinyes that is sowing dissention and ordered evil to damn the whole tribe to Baator after their deaths. Great ingenuity will be required to prove to her husband that she is not what she seems. |
| delis08-22-04, 05:09 AM | 13. Caught in the Act The PC's are out on the town, while walking through an alleyway of a more affluent section of town they come upon a small group of burglars, who are in the middle of an attempted robbery of a magic shop. The shop is that of a prominent Magician in town, it is likely filled with expensive goods, although perhaps to the robbers' surprise, some are deadly. The PC's are witnessing the action and can choose to act accordingly, calling for the town guard would likely get them in well with the mage and start a fight with the robbers. They could attempt to singlehandedly defeat the robbers and receive some reward from the mage, they could also be caught in the act of attacking the robbers and be mistaken for robbers (and murderers) themselves by a passerby or town guard. And then again they could just join in the frenzy of the robbers and attempt to gain access to some magic items. Reprocussions would be warranted. |
| Kiri Sittori08-22-04, 06:34 AM | 14. A most unusual kidnapper. It begins, seeming to be the typical kidnappings in the village; eventually, the party discovers that a well-meaning Fighter-Ex Paladin is abducting the maidens, while at the same time, a dominated servant of the local Red Dragon is leading townsfolk to their draconic 'overlord's' next meal. It's not immediately obvious, however, that the Ex-Paladin means well; his methods are almost classic thuggery, and his 'cohorts' are the same sorts of commoners that the Dragon is using for her own purpose... The PC's could very well kill the knight-errant, which might encourage the dragon to stop... just long enough for the PC's to leave, upon which the dragon stops eating rocks and goes after villagers again. Or the PC's could investigate more, perhaps discovering the truth, and have a dragon to deal with. Then there's the matter of the dragon's hoard, most of which was taken from the villagers and associated merchants... (It could also actually be a Paladin, depending on how much a DM allows Paladins to "get away with.") |
| thugpoetry08-22-04, 08:40 PM | 14: Time Warp Near the culmination of your party's long travels and adventures, they stumble into a whatever that forces them to defeat the BBEG's of their past adventures, one after another. 15: Freeeeeeeeeeeeee Fallin The PC's are thrown from a flying ship and are followed out by a monk who has dropped his ring of flight. Invent a bizzomb mechanic to simulate falling and make sure that the PC's know that they have 14 rounds before they splat on the ground. 16: Spelunking Give the PC's a mission to map the local caves, as it seems the maps are somewhat out of date. This can be either a humorous adventure, or a wonderfully scary adventure. Depends entirely on what you want to do. :) I've got plenty more from Tellah, the MyTh before they were cool. |
