I'm gonna try this one. Wouldn't it be great if some players just didn't make life any harder on the DM then it had to be.

1.You're right, your idea was was way better.

2.I could do that, but that would be metagaming.

3.That was a good call.

4.Any point buy over 28 is too powerful.

Good luck with this one

5) Yeah, I realize that (insert FUBAR here) you game me last game was too powerful. Of course I'll work with you to make it playable.

6) No I have my character ready and all my dice here. We were waiting on you.

7) We realize you intend to kill us this game, but we got pizza anyways. No its not a bribe.

8) (girlfriend /wife) No I don't expect any special treatment from you. I'm just here to have fun. Of course I won't kick you out of bed tonight if my character happens to die.

9) Yes we got pizza tonight, and yes it is a bribe.

10) We were doing some role playing before you got here and we think all our characters should start out as a party. :weep::tongue:

Hm. My players have said all these things at one time or another...

Well then you suck. :P

01-31-05, 07:05 AM
11) When can we play next time?
VerinBlod

01-31-05, 07:22 AM
12) yes we know the rules concerning our classes
jaspercrey

01-31-05, 08:21 AM
13) Well that last adventure was wicked-cool. I wonder what will happen next?
(as opposed to "Great. It's over. Now gimme my experience and gold please!")

14) You know, the more we play the more I find myself really getting into the role of my character.
(as opposed to "You know, the more we play the more I really dig all the uber-magic items and insane super-feat combos my character has")

15) I say let's go back to Griffondale and see what happened to our old friend Cornelius Highrune, the misfit wizard.
(as opposed to "let's go back to what-ever-it -was-called and visit that that guy again)
A Chosen of Mystra

16. We are your humble servents, we do what ever u tell us to do!
Hodden

01-31-05, 08:42 AM
16) We accept their surrender, and refrain from killing them.
Melpomene

01-31-05, 08:53 AM
17.) I wrote a few pages of backstory, is that okay?
18.) See, I told you my fighter could take out four mages of equal level.
19.) I take some of my gold and invest it for retirement.
20.) I take some of my gold and invest it into a trip to Aborea/Heaven/Biopia.
21.) Common isn't my first language, so when I roleplay, is it alright if I have an accent?
22.) Ooh, neat.
ShadowDragon8685

01-31-05, 09:39 AM
23. Yes, I know wizards suck at low levels, but the party needs one and I'll play one anyway.
(As opposed to "first level? Okay, I'm a human fighter...")

24. Yes, that's fine. We can, in fact, come to an agreement on what books will be used.
(As opposed to "Awww maaaaaan, but this X from Y is SOOOOO cool! I know it's not WotC/balanced, but Pleeasseee!")

25. Okay, sure. Point buy is good enough. Could you please raise it a bit, we're uncomfortable playing with a PB that low.
(As opposed to "But we wanna roll so we have a chance of getting super-stats," or "Dude, that PB is TOO DAMN LOW!" I don't mind if they're uncomfortable playing with a PB that they feel is too low. I just want them to be polite.)
Bane

01-31-05, 10:08 AM
26) We pooled our money and bought a couple more PHBs, so we don't always have to borrow yours.

27) I have a problem with Player X. Could we talk about it? (My players [i]never[\i] tell me when they have a problem with another player. It builds up in game, and eventually I end up asking, only to find out that it's something I could have fixed four sessions ago.)
Verenal

01-31-05, 10:24 AM
28.
No, I don't think I need to have levels in more than one class to make a fun character
(As opposed to: I have 9 different classes at level 12.)

29.
I don't want to overshadow my teammates, this game should be about our party, not just me.

30.
Okay, no evil alignments in the party is a good house rule.

31.
Why are we killing things all the time? Can we do something else for a change?
Vharuck

01-31-05, 10:29 AM
32. I avoid the dark, shadowy corner of the tavern.

33. I like the idea of being a soulknife (as opposed to asking me what the hell every class in the PHB and XPH are, not paying attention, then asking again when I inquire as to what they want to be)
Tembomber

01-31-05, 10:50 AM
I feel really lucky that I hear 11) at the end of almost every session :)
Evil O

01-31-05, 11:01 AM
33. Ok, we run!
(opposed to staying and lose most of party instead of getting help!)

34. Could we try to have a One-race or One-class party this time?

35. Yes, we can play at my place next time if it is better for everyone.

36. This was a cool idea for a BBG, I cant wait to see HIS boss.!

Numerous more will come .

01-31-05, 01:23 PM
41) Is there anything I can do to make this easier?
Lord Crimson

01-31-05, 01:41 PM
42) You're right. I can see how playing an anti-social rogue who steals stuff from the other PCs can be a little obnoxious. I'll stop playing him that way.

43) You're right. I can see how playing a drow elf all the time seems a little unrealistic.

44) You're right. Having a character that goes off on his own all the time DOES detract from everyone else's enjoyment of the game. I'll stop doing that.
clarkvalentine

01-31-05, 01:41 PM
45) Nooooo! You can't leave it there! (in response to GM's "And that's where we'll stop.")
Alcari Ambaron

01-31-05, 02:37 PM
46) my roll is 23 (instead of 16 plus 1d3 makes 18, Is he within 30 ft? yes, ok 19 then, oh i miss. Wait my weapon is +2 so its 21 and i forget to add my dex to the roll so 23. does that hit?)

47) of course i know what all my feats and skills do

48) we all brought our own PHB

49) ill sit on the other end of the table so i cant accidentaly see in your papers

50) is 5 pages of backstory to much?

51) What? No, of course my rogue wont do that, i'm not EVIL!

52) "we sit around the table IN our ROOMS to dicuss a plan (instead of just talking about it where they happen to be)

not really fitting here but
53) players not having etended conversations in a battle

55) I have no idea what that <<monster's name>> HP,AC and BAB are!!

my players never talk about monster HP, AC, BAB, EL , because they all know the MM a lot better then i do, so they dont need to talk about it.....

56. Why don't you just use one of the regular pieces rather than a lead Qui-gon Jin figure for the genereic barkeep?

57) Nah, it's okay. I don't want my share of the pizza. Here, you have it.

58) I wonder why Kairnus the Bold has a statue in the middle of the city. I mean, who was he? What did he do?

Or any other question that develops background about the game world.
Black Kitten

01-31-05, 05:12 PM
57) Okey, while the DM is going to look up something, who's keeping track of initiative?

58) Yes, I know I should cast *spell X* but my character doesn't know that, so I'm going to try and charm the zombie.

59) Hey, you go ahead and buy the big axe, here's my money. I'm sure I'll be repayed on a later date somehow.
Ibbins

01-31-05, 05:55 PM
60) Ok, here's my backstory(as opposed to, "I woke up in a field with no memory, so you'll have to make my character's history. Just remember to make it really, really cool." ...I'm trying to deal with this one right now....)
Ascian

01-31-05, 08:36 PM
61) "I knew he'd take an AoO if he cast the spell there, but I didn't tell him because my character's in the other room and it wouldn't be fair for us to pool our tactical knowledge out of character."

62) "Hey guys! I've been making an effort to keep out of trouble at school so I won't get grounded from D&D like last time!"

63) "I'd love to play a half-ogre, but are you sure it wouldn't unbalance the game?"

64) "I realize my character's a little too uber for the party, so I've helped the rest of the players min/max their builds so we're all equally badass." (I don't mind powerful characters, as long as they aren't rendering the rest of the party useless.)

65) "Oh, here are the TWO DOZEN DICE that you've been missing. It seems that SOMEHOW they got into my bag after you were GRACIOUS ENOUGH TO LET ME USE THEM." ( ... :banghead: ... :headexplo)

66) "Okay guys, enough cutting up, let's get serious and roleplay."

67) "We've all pushed our work schedules around, and we're all able to commit to a regular weekly game date that gives us a minimum of six hours' playing time."

68) "I've stapled a set of hooks to my character sheet; feel free to use them whenever you like."

69) "I know it's only 1d3 damage, but getting stabbed in the face with a dagger hurts! My barbarian releases the halfling he'd been grappling and clutches his bleeding cheek." (Pain is one of the most under-roleplayed elements in D&D.)

70) "That's so obvious, but my guy doesn't catch on. I want to accurately roleplay his low INT."
CapnSwashbuckler

01-31-05, 11:20 PM
71) Why yes, I'll be glad to give up my interesting character build and background and instead play el generico because what I wanted to do did not mesh perfectly with some minor little detail in your masterfully (excessively) thought-out campaign world!

72) Why no, I don't mind postponing gaming for a few weeks because you're a flake and you can't manage your time wisely!

73) Why no, I don't mind a ridiculously short session because you don't have the balls to kick the other players off the computer and bring them to the table!

74) Why no, I don't mind overmuch that you gimp heavy armor and do horribly mean things to characters who wear heavy armor while completely neglecting to use any sort of check or balance against the party wizard!
74a) Why no, I don't think your decisions are motivated in the least by the fact that you're sleeping with the party wizard!

75) Why yes, I'll be the perfect little teammate and party member!...which always involves a plot completely and utterly centered around the wizard. Wonder why...

76) The sign on the wall above the lever says "Pull". Perhaps I should try to find out what it does before I pull it.

77) Yes. I am quite happy with just using the three core rulebooks.
(My players LOVE stealing stuff from books like CA, UA, CW, The Planar Handbook... etc)

78) No, I am quite happy with my two stats that have a +0 modifier.

79) Perhaps I will attempt to listen through the door before kicking it down.

80) Yes, I am playing a sorcerer, but that doesn't mean I should take all the evocation spells on the list. Is it okay if I take a few support spells?

81) Okay. I load my crossbow and fire it. (I have one player who NEVER loads his crossbow for the first shot, and is continually surprised when I say "The crossbow twangs, but no other effect is observed.")

02-01-05, 02:18 AM
67) "We've all pushed our work schedules around, and we're all able to commit to a regular weekly game date that gives us a minimum of six hours' playing time." I won't run a game if players aren't committed to showing up on schedule each week for 6 hours. Anyway, after my last session, here are a couple:

77) I need to roll a 11 to jump across the 60' spiked pit onto the platform.... Ok, I look for a safer way.

78) The gargoyle left the dungeon and flew toward the city? We need to warn the prince immediately!

79) I LISTEN TO THE GOD.

80) Well, we've been searching for traps the whole dungeon so far... no reason to stop now. (As opposed to, "I walk into the middle of the room and look up, to see if the statues are facing something." Why do they always think there's some great significance to the direction the statues face??? It's not like dungeon builders go, OK, let's point all the statues at the traps so we can see where they are....)

87) I think I'm going to use my 4th level stat up to increase my charisma. Yes I know I do nothing with that stat, but my character has learned a lot about dealing with people, so I think it's appropriate.

88: Iīll watch and try to find if this unknown creature is hostile or not.. (that goes for two ones "hey, i know that one, itīs an <whatever>" and "sounds frightening.. must be strong and worth lots XP. I atack it!"

89: wait.. i want to know more about this place not only clean, sack and forget it exists...

90: If i know what might result from my charīs actions?? i have some ideas, but iīm roleplaying it <that way> and will face whatever comes from it..

91: Iīm still finishing his stats and all.. but the background for it is done, itīs is.... (in oposite to, "itīs all done.. err.. back ground?? erm.. i mean... err.. itīs <speaks two quick short sentences> and thatīs it" really wished they put some thought on their chars before making up the stats and not create things on the fly (though nothing against sudden inspirations) and in a i-dont-care-for-backstory way)

92: I know it sounds weird but can i play it.. i wont mind if it gets weakened not to unbalance the party..

93: hey, guys.. i know it is easier for us but a fully chaotic party is hell for the DM.. cant we make things different this way and make things easier?

:surrender really.. if at least 1/3 the group said #91 my job would be a lot easier..

94. Here is your copy of spatbook of x from company y. Read over the next month if you approve give me a call at the end of month so I can buy me a copy.

95. Who cares if half the group want to a chance to be DM. We rather let you DM all the time.

98. "Yeah, I know I qualify for that super obscure prestige class, but I think I'll just stick with my plain ole rogue instead."

02-01-05, 10:00 AM
99. "Okay, I just picked up the Craft Construct feat, and instead of banging out that golem concept I handed you right away, I build some 1/4 HD effigy creatures and a homoculous for practice. After that, I stop by the Library of Garash we visited a while back, to see if my mage can find some books on building large constructs. Doing all that should give you more time to consider if that construct of mine would risk unbalancing the party."

100. "I read about this new nifty feat, but I think I'll pass on it, since it doesn't match my character's personality."

101. "Oh, wait. You were right. They don't stack."
Vharuck

02-01-05, 10:06 AM
99. No, I don't need that Prestige Class. That's what creative uses of feats and skills are for.

100. Of course I read how combat works.

Yeah, 100 is true. I basically have to tell them all their modifiers. Even remind them of BAB.

106.I'll ask the paladin weather this is a good idea or not and see if it will put a price on my head in town before I try it.

107. no I wont kill everything that moves in this villige and sack it for all its worth.

1.) I guess your right, the assassin would wait for the fighters to walk buy and stab the spellcaster and then dimension door away.
Jason_Vorhees 13

02-02-05, 07:59 PM
110. I think I'll be a wizard instead of a fighter, it should help the party.

111. I think I'll stay with the others, instead of leaving and joining a group of NPCs.

112. I think I'll play a (add race here), not because of the awsome stats it gets, but because I want to roleplay this race.

113. No Brad, its ok. I'll DM tonight, I have the hole night planned out. (OPPOSITE of " But Brad I don't have anything planned." "I don't care if you don't have anything planned, you still have to DM.")

114. That did suck but we realize you had the theifs robbed us out of realistic reasons, we know you didn't mean anything personal by it, boy were we asking for it.

116) Man, I'm getting sick of all this no-plot beat em up style play. Let's go roleplay some!

117) Even though there are hot girls at the bar, since my Charisma score is EIGHT and I'm a HALFLING and they're DROW who are TALKING SECRETIVELY, as in NOT WANTING TO TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE... maybe I won't try to talk them into a foursome. (My gaming group are such perverts... as soon as they walk into any building, ever, "Are there any girls there? Are they hot?") Sob....

118) Even though we didn't get any Uber Treasure from your dungeon, the roleplaying design was REALLY COOL!

119) I totally understand that the EPIC LEVEL ARTIFACT SWORD I got from X's campaign is completely unbalancing for a SIXTH LEVEL CHARACTER!

120) Hold on, before we play, I'd like to read you my character's ten-page backstory... (As opposed to, " The orcs attacked my town when I was a little boy and killed and raped my parents while I had to watch, but then I lost all my memory from before or after that, so it's my only memory I have IN MY WHOLE STUPID SKULL!!!!!)

The people I play with make me want to cry a lot...

121: Hey lets get serious now I wanna get into this game (my party will not shut up and quit making out of character jokes and inane conversation's they'll have forgoten in ten frigging minutes.)

122: You know combat gets pretty boring

124: Oh my character has a cool background (as oposed to "I haven't given him a name yet, but I will.")

60) Ok, here's my backstory(as opposed to, "I woke up in a field with no memory, so you'll have to make my character's history. Just remember to make it really, really cool." ...I'm trying to deal with this one right now....)

You're the balding and chinless wastrel father of 8 feral children and husband to a 300 lb Half-Orc shrew. Old Man Duntin is so senile that he paid you 5 gold pieces instead of the 5 silver he promised for mucking out his stables. You know you've got to get home, since you promised that rancid bi- er, your wife that you'd give her the 5 silver pieces, as it's what you are already past due on this month's rent. However, you decided to have a little fun last night. You don't have any money on you, but you do find a slim stilleto hanging from your belt, you have an enormous bump on your head, and a certain part of your anatomy is beginning to itch and burn....

On the plus side, your concussion leads you to believe that you're "Fingers" Felonious, (in)famous cutpurse and cat-burglar.

There. Instant history, and proof against ever having to do it again.

132) I'm sorry.

133) Really, there's no need for you to flatter my ego or pamper my insecurities by tolerating a problematic min-max character that I only play to take out my aggressions on other people. I'm well-adjusted and mature enough to recognize that this is all for fun, and the experience is supposed to be mutual.

"Am I in the bar?"
"Yes!"
"Are there any girls in the bar?"
"Why?!"
"Cuz if there are I wanna do them!"

Ah, 8 bit. Gotta love ya.

That is not 8-bit you idiot. It is Dead Ale Wives Society, an actual comedic group who did a lot more than just thier two episodes worth of DnD parodies.

What's more that flash wasn't even done by Brian C. It is in no way 8-bit, the sprites were taken elsewhere. None of the humor was even written by BC, so it couldn't possibly be 8 -bit. Edit: Flaming

EDIT: Except the two portraits of the dragon "Hang in thier baby!" and the bomb, there was nothing particularly 8-bit about it.

136) It's a good thing I listened to the description of your room.
Now I know since there is a fountain in each of the water temple's room if I try to run from this slow moving medium sized water elemental it will just follow me by going through a fountain, and gain an enourmous burst of speed beating me everywhere I go since it swims so easily.

(Ah the poor player told his allies to run and they were intercepted not a round later through a fountain at the end of the hallway they were exploring)

Hey Saurenda? *No* need to be so.. how shall we say.. um.. Un-diplomatic.

Technically.. and this is a technicality? It is 8-Bit in it's own way.

Over at the Cybermoon Studios website, in the description for the movie it opens with the words...

Inspired by 8-bit Theater

Hence the name of the Flash Video we all know and love, is "8-Bit D&D"

In said Flash video the man intones "The Dead Ale Wives" as who is bringing you the skit though. So it does touch on the true authors of it, the title of the file is 8-Bit, and he says it was inspired by 8-Bit theater.

So before you go off all crazy wild, ponder the shorthand used.

Also he could have said "Man, I loved that skit in Summoner." Because it was *also* used in Summoner as a goofy side skit staring characters from the game.

So there ya go, your trivial facts for the day to consider in the light of your use of "moron" and "idiot"

Also, as per it not being very 8-Bit? I ask you to explain this then. An 8-Bit Theater Vs 8-Bit D&D comparison.

Thief: Runs the party as leader / Ran the game

Black Mage: Crazy wizard who hurts people / Crazy wizard drunk on his own power who hurts people (His magic missle did connect with a figure in the darkness)

Red Mage: Whiny powergamer / Whiny Gamer

Fighter: Idiot with paint chips and powerlines / Idiot searching for mountain dew and using bad pickup lines

The sprites used for the four main characters also looked alot like the ones BC uses for 8-Bit Theater.. for good reason.. it was *inspired by* 8-Bit Theater.

Okay, I'm done.

Have a nice day all!

(And Vharuk, as far as I know? You are neither a moron or an idiot. )

- The Merc You Forgot

[Edit: 137) You know, that plotline that you slaved over and made just so we could have fun and seek a deeper ken with our characters while trying to enhance the roleplay of the game in general? It's not as depressing as I thought. Please, do run your plotline and allow us the chance to unravel the mystery in our own way instead of us just running off from it because it's not bunnies frolicking with nymphs in a forest of happiness.]

138) Yes I will actually wait my turn in combat to announce what it is I intend to do.

139) No I'm not going to assume it's alignment based on it's race. Every person in your campagin in a individual.

140) I never knew dungeons had traps in them! I guess I'll need to have my rouge brush up on common sense rather than berate party members at inopertune times.

141) Of course I'll be a team player. I came here on my free time like everyone else. With you running I'm sure you'll give everyone a chance at the spotlight. No one character should be the focus of your campagin no matter how well built.

142) I just have to visit [town name] again. I really like the NPC you put there, and the place was so well described I think I might retire my character there.

143) now that we have cleared out this dungeon, I am going to hire a team clean it up, and convert it into a headquarters for us, and or a temple to the god I whorship so that we have a place to go back too, near a town we know. Or better yet start our own town using the left over material from thsi dungeon. Waste not, want not!

Ah I wish 142) had been said. Everyone always wanted off plane for retirement. Sigh. 143) seemed plasuable to me. I wanted my players to see dungeons were costly, so in themselves where the greatest rewards on unclaimed land.

That is not 8-bit you idiot.

It's a fairly obscure reference of which I personally was unaware, thus I am also an idiot and a moron for not recognising these patently obvious references, of something that is extremely trivial. It would serve you (and, far more importantly, other people) well if your tone was more polite and less obnoxious and abrasive.

Moron

EDIT: Except the two portraits of the dragon "Hang in thier baby!" and the bomb, there was nothing particularly 8-bit about it.

My apologies. You could have just reminded me. But you went the extra mile. Do it again and repercussions will occur. :88E:

178. I decided that I was going to play a fighter, so I read the rules on Disarms, Grapples, Overruns, and Bullrushes.

179. I've already added that bonus in.

180. I've broken down all my bonuses and their types here, so you can see that everything that should stacks properly.

181. I realized that I asked a dozen rule questions in an hour of last session that turned a 5-minute combat into a 1-hour combat, so I decided to reread the Players Handbook.

(for one exceedingly poor player, I'd like to hear...)
182. I finally went out and bought a Handbook.

183. I made a copy of my character sheet, so you don't have to ask me about it.

184. I brought my own minature.

185. The (Spell)? Sure, that's on page X of the (Book). Since I cast that one every session, I've reread the description to make sure I know how it works.

186. Keep playing: I'll reread to make sure your ruling is right, rather then stop the game for 10 minutes to look it up.

191. Come on guys, lets not give up with this puzzle, I'm sure we're almost through with it.

192. You know...I want to be a gnome.

193. You know...I want to be a halfling.

194. Ogre is spelt O-G-R-E right, not O-G-E-R

195. Ok guys, lets not make fun of Kord while we're in his temple surrounded by all of these powerful clerics.

196. You say the [book] covers [class], no I'll buy it, after all I came up with the idea and in case it dosen't work then you wouldn't of wasted your money on something you never really wanted in the first place.

197. Why go into the forest to look for monsters, after all the best part of D&D is the story that the DM worked so hard to come up with.

198. Well the 4d6 system did give me better abilities than the point buy system, but it's what you want, and will make my character more realistic.

199. I don't agree with your DM style, but I still respect it.

200. I don't agree with your DM style, but if I gave advise I might as well be DM, and since I don't want to come up with adventures and plots I'll keep to myself.

283) No I don't want to play the half vampire/dragon/werewolf (any predominately evil character)... I think I'll play a paladin.

284.) I don't think that it would be sensible to go to (insert formal function here) in full combat gear. Let's leave that with the horses.

285.) I hope that NPC a few towns back didn't get caught up in all this. He was a nice guy and I wouldn't want anything to happen to him.

286.) We're in an urban setting, and I really don't want to get arrested, so lets knock these guys out, bind their hands, and take them to the local authorities rather than killing them.

287.) My cleric gives the dead foe proper burial rites. After all, he didn't ask to be drafted into the BBEG's army.

290) "After consulting with the other players, I think I'm going to make a different character than the one I'd intended. I just don't see how he'd fit in."

291) "What's that you say? My preferred (race/class/concept) doesn't exist in your campaign world? Well, I better pick something else, then."

292) "You know what? You can skip the details of my character's sexual encounter with the hot elf maiden. I don't want to make everyone else uncomfortable."

293) "I don't think Jerry is having as much fun as the rest of us. Why don't you give him a larger role in the next adventure? I don't need to be the center of attention all the time."

294) "Hmm . . . my characters keep dying. Maybe I should reconsider some of my battle tactics, or perhaps try to build a more effective character. In any event, I'm confident that you're not singling me out for abuse."

295) "I just thought of something funny, but I'll save it for later. I don't want to ruin the atmosphere."

296) "Sure, I may know that this monster has AC 23, 55 hp, and a weakness to fire, but my character doesn't know that."

297) "So the dwarves in your campaign don't drink ale and talk in scottish accents? I will endeavor to remember that."

298) "I have an idea for how I want to develop my character. Can I talk it over with you? I don't want to surprise everyone at the table when my character suddenly turns into a vampiric were-octopus."

299) "I had an idea for a character, but I decided against it. It's a little too much like Drizzt."

303) I understand that your game is quasi-parody, and has always been since when we started ten levels ago, so I will not up and decide one day to criticize you in front of everyone about not running a serious enough game (I was this close to killing the guy, and not in game).

304) Stop trying to intentionally gimp my character to become a good roleplayer according to some bizarre Internet elitist ideals? That sounds like a great idea!

305) Maybe I should stop calling anybody who lays a hand on the Book of Nine Swords and anime fanboy, since it always starts a two hours argument that ends with someone leaving early.

306) I understand that you misread the rulebook and made a bad call on something last game. I won't challenge you because it's inconsistent.

307) If something makes me feel uncomfortable or left out, I'll tell you either after the game or during a break, instead of continuing to dredge through something I'm not enjoying.

308) I get that my character cannot defeat every other character of his level in single combat all the time, and this does not make me a bad player or you a bad DM.

309) Well what do you know? We all brought snacks and enough soda to share. Looks like we won't need to raid your fridge this time.

310) I can't believe I forgot to bring my cell phone.

311) If it is OK with you, we would like to skip the requisite party bickering and in-fighting and just get to the dungeon.

312) I would just as soon my character's sexual exploits were merely inferred or handled "off-camera." I wouldn't dream of pushing your comfort envelope by having you assist me in acting out my fantasies in front of your friends and kid brother.

315) Maybe I should reconsider my choice of weapons if we're going into a cramped set of tunnels. A glaive may look cool, but it's not good for that knid of fighting.

316) I think I'll play something other than a cleric who wades in to 'smish' everything.

317) Yes, you're right, I have been playing my paladin as Lawful Stupid. I'll try to do better, but I understand that I may lose my paladin powers if I can't.

318) Instead of looking for someone to hand us our next adventure, let's give the DM a break and rebuild the old keep outside the town as our new headquarters, so we can spend the next few adventures doing that, chasing off monsters, and negotiating with the local nobles to convince them that we're not trying to horn in on their domain.

319) Hey, I've been paying attention, and if you haven't already got a calender set up, how does this look?

320) Sure, we'll come out to your place to game, because none of us have anywhere free of interruptions.

Oh... And I have, indeed, had people scream and run from kobolds in my games.

No, I won't play a vampire spawn because you're not 100% familiar with them and because another player is playing a cleric that would usually kill me on the spot and now will have to work with me, causing no end of party arguments. (Luckily, when I talked to this player about it, he changed from being a vampire spawn to being a changeling...a race I'm much more familiar with. :))

340) "HAH! WE DID IT!"

Little background: Giving the players the illusion of accomplishment, to me, is key in being a DM. Cakewalk adventures are boring, overly-hard adventures are frustrating. The idea is to push it just to the edge where it tests the character's teamwork and capability, so the player feels a sense of reward for overcoming any given challenge - they don't have to know that they were supposed to overcome the encounter either way, in fact they're supposed to feel as though if they hadn't put forth so much effort, they wouldn't have.

IMO, anyways.

So when a player sits back in their chair, with a big smile on their face, proud that they've 'solved the puzzle,' 'beaten the boss,' or otherwise overcome a challenge, I get a sense of reward that's difficult to replicate any other way. The players are having fun, they're interested, and they're enjoying themselves.

And to me? That's the goal of the game.

342) Hey! Don't kill that NPC! He might be our plot hook!

343) Let's do a little research on this legendary dungeon before we go find it, so we know what to expect.

344) "Mawwiage. Mawwiage is wat bwings us togevaw today." (Nothing beats a good Princess Bride quote.)

345) Let's not ruin tonight's game by drinking eight beers apiece before the game starts.

346) Don't worry; I understand the basics of game mechanics.

347) I realize that the short-cut I just thought of (that would alow me to easily defeat the main villian) is well outside the spirit of the rules, so I won't ask if you'll et me get away with it.

348) I'll stop acting against the stated goals of the party for no good reason, because I realize that it ruins everyone elses enjoyment.

OMG, three things I would LOVE to hear my players say. (or even if they didn't say it and just DID it.)

to add my own:
349) I understand that the world you created does not have gunpowder and I will not use my real life knowlage to find the componants without telling you what I am doing until I have them all and then say "AH HAH, you let me have everything I need to make gunpowder, now I make explosives."

350) The BBEG just vanished huh? Well I guess I wont spend the next 3 hours of real time trying to figure out weather he is invisable or if he's really gone even though all the other players want to move on to something else.

Yay! I'm guilty of that one.

252. .....(silence)...(sometimes i just wish they wouldn't say anything)
253. "I will attack orc #3 with my flail" (I just wish they would tell me which one they are attacking quickly- they are slowing down the game when i have to ask each time!)
254. "That's 5 piercing damage plus 4 cold damage" (be specific- break it down for me please!)

:w00t: It would be nice if they did this, wouldn't it?

289) Yeah, I rolled to hit while you weren't looking or paying attention. I got a '1'.

Heh, I expect absolute honesty in my game. This is a good thing to hear.

26) We pooled our money and bought a couple more PHBs, so we don't always have to borrow yours.

And finally... my addition is very closely tied to yours.

351) I got sick of staring at you with a blank face when we play. I read the PHB, aquianted myself with the rules and my spells, decided what my character's goals and motives are, so I won't be wasting any more of your time by making you reteach me the game every turn of combat and everytime my character should be doing something other than drooling.

If BBEG speeches weren't ususally the same repetitive "Mwahaha I'm so evil" crap, I'd listen to them too. However, I usually pretend I'm listening, then when the BBEG is halfway through a sentence, I charge and see if I can't squeeze a surprise round out of that. Yeah, I've had a similar feeling reading a lot of these. While some of them are obviously tongue in cheek, a lot of them seem to imply that the DMs in question want their players to be compliant drones who want nothing more than to sit quietly while the DM explains his plot to them.

367. Guys, let's not make the DM's life harder than it already is. He has enough to worry about.

368. Perhaps we should try to take one of those goblins alive instead of killing every combatant in sight, as we always do. We might learn something valuable.

369. Wow, I can't seem to hit anything tonight! Maybe I'll roleplay my character's frustration instead of looking at purely from a tactical point of view.

388) Dude, this homemade snack food is awesome! Remind me later to get the recipe!

389) I'm sorry I stepped on your kid's toys / kicked your dog / spilled soda on your new carpet / left a cigarrete burn on your dining table / etc. Let me know know how much the damage is worth and I'll pay for it.

392) Of course I won't play video games on my cell phone when the focus of the game is not on me.

395) I disagree with your interpretation of that rule. Can we discuss it after the game (as opposed to right now)?

396) Thank you for not giving me everything that I ask for. That would make the game boring.

397) I brought some props / mood music / CAD drawings / etc. to enhance our gaming experience.

398) Is there some minor DM drudge-work I can help you with between games, so that you can focus on crafting each adventure?
