| WCH05-02-05, 02:17 AM | In light of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy being out, many of us are desirous to include references in our campaigns. I personally plan to include a magical towel -- or, at least, a mundane towel which the PCs will think is magical. But what uses could a towel have in D&D? Let's find out! 1) Impromptu blindfold when you discover the nasty beast is really a basilisk 2) Non-lethal melee weapon 3) Strangulation device 4) Covering up an object with Light or Darkness cast on it 5) Getting orc bits off of you after they read your Explosive Runes |
| Vharuck05-02-05, 02:49 AM | 6) Toga party! 7) Tourniquet for when your arm is lopped off by a vorpal weapon. |
| Sarella Starshine05-02-05, 02:49 AM | 8) wiping the sweat off after fighting |
| ChimericPhase05-02-05, 02:59 AM | 9) White flag to wave to negotiate a truce with the enemy 10) Exotic Weapon Prof (Towel) Towel snap, 1d3-2 damage, x2(only if wet) |
| TheChilliGod05-02-05, 03:27 AM | This has got to be, without exception, the stupidest "1 thousand and something" thread. Of all time. ... COOL! 11) Washing dishes with, after dinner at a PC's place. 12) Drying oneself off after a dip in the lake. 13) Cleaning up wounds (+2 circumstance to healing), if it's not a rough towel. 14) Sweat Headband or a cloak; it just looks cool. Unless the towel has a teddy bear on it. 15) Impromptu picnic blanket. (Just imagine, all the adventures and the un-disguised BBEG along with henchmen having a picnic together.) 16) Napkin. 'nough said. 17) Very useful for attracting bulls if the towel is red. 18) Improvised cast. You don't have a cleric, and your sword-arm is broken. It'll need to heal naturally, so give it a towel cast and/or sling. |
| Jerivar05-02-05, 03:30 AM | 7) Tourniquet for when your arm is lopped off by a vorpal weapon. Yeah. Except that the Dungeon Master's Guide relates how a vorpal weapons lops off the foes' HEAD. 19. Enchant it a bit, then sling it around above your head. I don't know what that'll do, but it may just stir up a wind/sandstorm, and your enemies DEFINATELY don't want that! 20. A bullet-sling. For throwing bullets. 21. Enchanted, it becomes like a tanglefoot bag. |
| Korhal_IV05-02-05, 03:38 AM | Yeah. Except that the Dungeon Master's Guide relates how a vorpal weapons lops off the foes' HEAD. It's going to have to be a big tourniquet, then. :D |
| WCH05-02-05, 04:48 AM | 22) Pull it out as if it's an extremely powerful secret weapon of some kind and threaten your enemy with it. He will most likely believe you that it has heinous power, and will submit to your every whim. Throwing it on the ground, pointing and shouting "kill!" may or may not also work. |
| MinusInnocence05-02-05, 05:42 AM | 23) Wet, can be used to smother flames. 24) Slung over a rope, can simulate a zipline to a lower level. 25) May offer a bonus on a Disarm attempt. 26) Every BBEG hates heroes who don't wipe their feet first. 27) When falling into a prickly rosebush, may cushion you against the thorns. 28) Insulation against the cold. It won't help you against a White Dragon but it gets pretty chilly in January. 29) Covering deceased PCs. 30) Fill it with some rocks and beat up a Cleric. Or anyone, I guess. |
| CzarGarrett05-02-05, 10:27 AM | 31) Use in conjunction with fire to make smoke signals 32) Parachute while falling 33) Trip attacks, +2 circumstance modifier 34) Paint a face on it and call it a friend (good for HOV lanes) |
| Insane Pixie05-02-05, 11:08 AM | 35) "You guys wanna get high?" "No, Towelie, we don't want to get high." |
| clarkvalentine05-02-05, 11:29 AM | 36) To demonstrate exactly how hoopy a frood you are, by always knowing where it is. +2 to all Charisma-based skill checks for one minute. |
| Jeremiah DeathFist05-02-05, 01:44 PM | 37)For cleaning your weapons after battle |
| Fixxxer05-02-05, 02:10 PM | Edit: Nevermind. Sex jokes probably don't belong in a Hitchhiker's thread. |
| allenchan05-02-05, 02:12 PM | 38) For trying to use as a divine focus when your holy symbol gets stolen. 39) Convincing a Kobold its a Cloak of Charisma +6 40) Worrying if it does or does not break your Vow of Poverty. |
| WCH05-02-05, 06:04 PM | Whoa, allenchan? A friend of mine who just quit playing D&D is named Alan Chan. 41) Hide lockpicks or other small tools in it (and the answer goes to...) |
| Herald@Large05-02-05, 08:46 PM | 42. Wrap fragile treasure objects in it. 43. Use as loincloth. 44. Wrap around hands to protect when sliding down a rope. 45. Soak in water = headwrap on a hot day. 46. Mopping up the blood after the battle! :P |
| Alynn05-02-05, 09:46 PM | Yeah. Except that the Dungeon Master's Guide relates how a vorpal weapons lops off the foes' HEAD. "Hey Private, what would you do if I had a massive head wound?" "I'd put a tourniquet on your neck" (true story) 47) Covering up your naughty bits after a flamestrike burns off all your clothes. 48) Become the Turbanator. 49) Convince a dragon how valuable it is. |
| Chosen of the Dark Sun05-02-05, 10:00 PM | 50) I was already planning on giving them Towels of Invisibility. However, you must voluntarily cover your eyes with it to use it. |
| Liwmial05-03-05, 02:17 PM | 51) Towel = magic crapet ... for tiny creatures. |

Anyway: 52) To plug your ears to prevent hearing the [evil monster] wail/cry/shout. 53) Cover your eyes so you don't get blinded by the Nymph. |
| Cyra05-03-05, 03:48 PM | 52.) Soak it in nutrients and suck on it when you feel low on vitamins |
| Ibbins05-03-05, 03:58 PM | 53) Soak the other end in antidepressants for when you suck the first end. |
| catowar05-03-05, 04:05 PM | 54: drying your self |
| Insane Pixie05-03-05, 04:09 PM | 57. To put out the flaming gnomes. |
| Phrennzy05-03-05, 04:17 PM | LOL @ Magic Crapet 58.) A tent for a halfling. |
| Osiris Memnoch05-03-05, 04:29 PM | 59) Take the exotic weapon proficentcy (towel) and 10 levels in kensai. Now that's one vicious towel slap! "Hey wanna have a towel fight?" "Sure! But you asked for it" *whip* "Ouch! OK my turn" *earth-shattering explosion that probably killed a lot of babies by "accident"* |
| allenchan05-03-05, 04:33 PM | 59) Take the exotic weapon proficentcy (towel) and 10 levels in kensai. Now that's one vicious towel slap! It still has to be a masterwork towel, right? so you need to find an expert crafter with Towel-making. :P |
| Big Tom05-03-05, 08:57 PM | -A +5 Cloak of Awesomeness. -Convincing passerby that you also have a washcloth, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, clean socks, clean underwear, a change of clothes, spare shoes, etc. in an attempt to gain passage abord their vechicle. -Over-sized sling for kobold/halfling/gnome tossing. -A towel. -Surrender flag. -Distraction flag. -Flag. -Makeshift sail for a very small boat. |
| pkrerc05-03-05, 09:04 PM | You could use it to protect yourself from the Ravenous Tarrasque of Traal. A creature so stupid it thinks that if you can't see it, it can't see you. You could also use it to slay aforementioned ravenous man-eating monster by soaking the towel in any liquid and wielding it as a whip. Not to mention that you could also erm... use it to... mop the monster's blood off of the floor after you kill it? |
| Angered Roach05-03-05, 09:07 PM | 68. When adventuring in areas modeled after the Middle East, may be used to aid with blending in, in the form of a turban. 69. When on stealth missions, may be used to conceal face, quiet breathing, and give the wearer the impression that he is a ninja. 70. May be filled with coins to make an improvised sap. 71. When one loses their boots, towels can adequetly cover feet, if something is used to secure them. |
| Always-Late05-03-05, 09:53 PM | When somebody's arm/leg/head gets cut off, carry whatever it was without getting everything extremely bloody. |
| evilgenius05-03-05, 10:18 PM | Give it to a character with blindsense... Dangle it in front of them on a coat-hanger, so that they get partial concealment and can't be sneak attacked. |
| PenderGrass05-03-05, 10:52 PM | SIDE NOTE: heh heh, I knew it. Why? (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=419901) :dragon: **** |

| Arthur_Pendragon05-04-05, 04:17 AM | 17) Very useful for attracting bulls if the towel is red. Interestingly enough, I hear bulls actually have only black and white (and shades of gray) vision (er. . . their colorblind I think is the right word). So actually it wouldn't matter if it is red or not. It's actually the way the guy shakes the "bull-angry-making-thing", either that or just that the guy is there at all. er . . . . since I'm on here I guess I should make some contribution of some sort. 80) Use it in the construction of a REALLY BIG Moltov cocktail. :mage: |
| Big Tom05-04-05, 04:34 AM | Interestingly enough, I hear bulls actually have only black and white (and shades of gray) vision (er. . . their colorblind I think is the right word). Most mammals see in greyscale (Black and white for most folks). The parts of the eye that percieve color are clustered in a specific region of the eye and are not useful at all in seeing peripheral areas, where much of the attantion is focused in a do-or-die situation. Humans are rare in that we percieve color in our central viewing field. It's believed to be the actual motion of the cloth that attracts the bulls attention, not the color. The color gets humans attention. And so: 81: Waving around to attract the attention of people so you can show off how smart you are.:teach: :cheer: :evillaugh |

| OmiKapSi05-04-05, 01:16 PM | 94: Soak it in water and use it to mop up the remains of your just disintegrated buddy for later resurrection. 95: Wrap it around a bludgeoning weapon to inflict subdual damage without taking a -4 penalty on attack rolls. 96: Wrap it around a slashing weapon for a one shot bludgeoning/subdual hit. 97: Soak it in gorgons blood and wrap it around an aether beetle to keep it from escaping. 98: Attach it to your shoulders; instant cape for impressing people. 99: Hold at the corners and it's a vessel for carrying berries, coins, miscellaneous small objects. 100: Introduce it to the game and watch it attract dozens of other H2G2 references. |
