| Jarjaxle09-20-07, 02:33 PM | Everyone, I am going to be starting a new campaign soon and I was looking for a great 1st level adventure to kick things off. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am currently just finishing up with an Age of Worms campaign and I know I only have a few months before 4E, so my group is not looking for something long term like a new adventure path. However I did buy Cormyr: Tearing of the Weave and I would like to use that one, but it starts at 4th level and I need a quick, easy, place for the players to stretch their legs, get to know their new characters, develop bonds with each other and get ready to Rock. I personally think that the first few levels are the most important when it comes to character development. If the beginning is lame, the rest will be as well... so this is pretty important. Any recommendations? |

"A Dark and Stormy Night" is a very nice one, if a bit railroady opening up. Simply make the storm just a good downpour, a real storm that any one in their right mind would get out of and most of that is fixed though. "Daggers at Midnight" can be a good one too, with very little tweaking. Same for "Froderiks Tomb", both from Legends and Lairs. Once they get closer to the start, "Frozen Whispers", again a free download from this site, is a great scenario. I've run it a couple of times with different groups and made it, very easily, spooky and suspenseful and wholly memorable. Those are just a few. Go to the downloads page, they've got a ton of them. As with any published adventure you should alter it depending on your party (and your players). The ending boss can be exceptionally hard (it is CR 4 I believe) so the players should definitely try to level up by clearing the whole place before trying the boss. The module also assumes that players are fairly smart and that enemies are fairly stupid. If one or the other does not follow that assumption it can be really hard for the party to succeed. |

| Madoffler09-21-07, 12:28 AM | I'm not familiar with Cormyr: Tearing of the Weave, but if your wanting to use it then might as well sow the seeds now. Give them all a reason to care about whatevers going on in that adventure and a personal reason to take on the challenge. |

| Zavia09-21-07, 02:04 PM | im about to start "A dark and stormy knight" to get my players warmed up, then lead them towards Sunless Citadels. Another one i started with is Wreck Ashore. The map had a good lighthouse as a base of operation. |

As a DM, it was quick and easy to run. It's a 3.0 module, but the only things you'll really want to convert to 3.5 are the twig blights. |
| Laerekh_Jaelre09-21-07, 04:55 PM | I'm currently running The Sunless Citadel. My PCs are about one fight away from the BBEG at the end. I think my players have been having alot of fun with this module. I know I have. It's a very solid adventure to run through. A couple things to look out for that I noticed: -Twig Blight stats have changed from 3.0 to 3.5 -Balsag should not have 36 hp (3d8+3 HD) -Erky should have more skill points -The Shadow will be hard to face if the PCs don't pick up Balsag's +1 morningstar and put it to good use. You may want to place an oil of magic weapon +1 somewhere in the dungeon to help the PCs out with this encounter. |
| Zavia09-26-07, 12:03 AM | just an FYI, my 3 gestalt, max starting gold players are franticly running away from the bbeg in "dark n stormy knite". :S The Zombie Bugbear whacked the Cleric/Barb twice to -1, the sor/bard is casting grease continiously and running while the Rog/Ran is dragging the Cleric/Barb. They forgot that the (good+healing domain) Cleric could damage via undead via spells. I see extra teamwork XP coming their way. Any other changes i/we should do or be aware off? and what did u change? which skill points did u decide to put into? What dod u guys change to the twig blight to update it? TQ |
