Ok remember those savage species articles in wizards home page about vampires and other temples that had level adjustment and how they where divided in levels so someone could be 2 level fighter / 2 level vampire?
Well if you do please help, I want to create a “class” like that for dragons and more specific for a red dragon, I want on of my pc to start as 1st level dragon and then advance as dragon or as any other class he wants.

I own draconomicon and sow that if someone want to start as a red dragon he has 7hd (wyrmling) and a l.a. of 4 so he must start as ECL:11. the rest of the group is 7 level so he must start with ECL somewhere between 8 and 9 ( the pc may take some levels before this pc is introduced to the group).

Do you think it can be done? :)

one of the books i have (i can not think which on at the moment) sujjest the following:
Add a -1 penalty to all d20 rolls the charicter makes for each level of la discrepancy
example
red dragon wyrmling 7hd la 4 fighter level 1 ecl 12 play as a level 8 charicter
would have a -4 penalty to all d20 rolls(attacks, saves, skillchecks ect) and have xp as a level 8 charicter
when the charicter reaches level 9 the penalty would drop to -3
level 10 -2
level 11 -1
level 12 no penalty
level 13 can take new class level

I havent tried this yet but it sounds like it might work for game balance.

Dragon magazine #320 has an article on savage progressions for dragons. You could take a look at that.

IIRC, Morwen, that was only for the good dragons. It did have a cool picture of a dragon drinking ale at a bar. That was pretty awesome.

When you break down a monster into classes like that, you cannot take a different class until you have completely finished the monster class. Dragons are somewhat different, in that they need age to grow more powerful, but I am not sure how that translates into mechanics. I do seem to remember this Dragon mag they are talking about though. You should check into that.

Hmm, you're right about that. I thought it had the progressions for all the true dragons :/ Anyway, using those as guidelines, it shouldn't be too difficult to make a progression for a red dragon.
