| Nathara01-09-04, 04:53 PM | I've been reading a bunch of threads regarding over large groups, and a thought occured to me. To save some effort for our poor hapless DM who is now running two groups (having split a larger one in half or so), could they not use the same/similar plotline for both campaigns? I mean, not all the exact same details, but the same arching storyline? You know, the same baddies with the same plot, but adjusting the details to suit the group? It would work out similar to reusing an old adventure one had written, wouldn't it? And once a good campaign gets going, it kinda works itself out nicely most the time. Has anyone tried this? Any other theories on how this would work out? I mean, this idea is completely based on the idea that no single player is in both games are the groups aren't going to be comparing notes (often). Thanks! PS - wondering because it has been hugely hinted at that I should start another game for another group I play with, but I am intimidated as I am so very immersed in the game I do run. |

You could have the same overall storyline, but have the two groups play different events/adventures/subplots, thus they could meet, one group might have rumours the other group needs. Characters could switch group during the game etc. Montecook wrote about it on his website, and I would love to do it myself, I just don't have the time. |

I did this on a much smaller scale, I have a party in Phlan and one of my PC's got snowed in at my place so his PC went on 2 quests. One took place while the injured PC's recouped from there first adventure and it had the solo PC investigate a partialy destroyed mansion in wrecked side of Phlan. After clearing it out he found plans to siege the town and information about the inhabatents in the surounding buidings. He took it to the Ten Judges and asked if he may have the abandoned broken down mansion to ive in. Being a Tiefling they agreeded (keep him out of the nice part of town) if he completed a quest for them. He set off to do so. Meanwhile the PC's get hiered to clearout the surounding buildings and destroy them. The rest of the parts quest was written by the PC and I and will be ran by hime, and I ran the 2nd solo adventure in the Dragonspire Mountains for him. He will run it for my group while I am at work and when I get off on Saturday I will come back and run the adventure that takes place after his charicter gets back to town and he meets up with the group again. It is all working out very well so far. |
