| AGM Illmater02-06-07, 04:10 PM | Okay, after reading Arochanox's thread here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=766176) it inspired me to try running a campaign world based around them. Quick synopsis of game is this...each PC is the reincarnated form of a past hero from each race. I am making sure each player picks a unique race, no doubling up. All other members of that race are normal PHB stats. Same for the enemy, 99% of them are normal, only the "Captains" and "Bosses" are going to be special versions. This I hope gives it more of a hero type feel...I could of course be way off on this. Now, world background. I am basically stealing ideas from every good writer I have ever read. Feist, Lawhead, Lewis, Jordan...to name a few. I am giving credit where credit is due, very few of these ideas are actually mine, I am merely blending them in a new way. ------------------------------------------------------------ Thulcandra (The Silent Planet) General Information all people know: Set in a time similar to Medieval Europe, Thulcandra is so named by races from other worlds because it is the Silent Planet. This is because Dragons have left this plane, and have been gone for many centuries. No one still alive on Thulcandra has ever seen a Dragon, good or evil, nor any of their blood. Drow and Duergar are uprising, because hero from the past has come back to bring them to power. * This first part is a blending of Feist and Lewis...Lewis provided the planet name, and Feist provided a gaming hook (only in his it is the disappearance of the Dragon Lords and not Dragons themselves). The drow and duergar are being used in this instance by some disguised Spellscales (from Races of the Dragon) into believing that one of their own dead heroes is back from the grave to lead them to victory. In truth, the leader is a disguised (polymorphed) Spellscale. This will be the first hint to the players, and the world at large, that in some form, Dragons are again in the world. Our first game in this world is this Sunday, I will post more each week that we play my game (we rotate campaigns) to let you know how it is going. My players have chosen their races and classes like this. Half-orc (Future Rage-Mage) Illumian (Future Summoner or Truenamer) *hasn't picked yet* Elf (she is thinking Skylord, but not sure yet) Dwarf (Healer) Vashar (a social character, I am still not sure what his ultimate plans are) They are all level 5 characters and seem excited to play. As I get more info about their characters I will post it here to flesh them out. Hope you all enjoy reading. |
| ArochanoX02-09-07, 01:49 PM | Awesome! I hope that your campaing will work well, as my races too. If you need to make some modifications to the races for game balance, plase inform me! I'm really anxious to see what happens to that illumian truenamer and vashar. Truenamer because I like that class, and because the illumian is perhaps at the top end of my races. Vashar because I truly like playing it. Vashars are so nice to play. I've had some experience about that. Good luck for your gamings! |
| AGM Illmater02-12-07, 04:07 PM | Okay, had the first intro adventure for this campaign last night. Here are the characters that have been finalized. Half-orc (pre-Rage Mage) 2 Levels of Barbarian and 3 of Wizard this player is a great RP'r and is showing the fight within his person between his "sedate" human upbringing and his orc tendencies. Halfling Druid (Exalted, VoP) 5 Druid with Wolf Animal Companion Elf Bard3/Swashbuckler2 - that bonus to damage from Int means she racks up the damage pretty good even for only level 5 Vashar level 5 rogue - he has maxed out most of his social skills (playing it as a second son of a noble) Orc Paladin2/Rogue3 (on his way to Inquisitor) very powerful character that is fighting against his innate "beast". To begin, each character recieved a letter, irregardless of where they were in the world. The rage mage did a Spellcraft check and all he could get from it was that is was sent by a much higher "power" in magic than himself. All the characters were interested enough to speak the command words and be transported to an arena where they faced a lone Bugbear. As soon as they arrive they hear a voice tell them "We wish to see what you can do, please commence." The characters began 100 ft away from the Bugbear. Each one started out different, and all but one defeated the Bugbear. The one that failed was the social rogue, but that wasn't to huge a surprise and he still took it down below half HP alone, so he did well. The rogue started off by trying to talk his way out of it, but the Bugbear ended up being only a Shadow casting and was not real...it would only fight whoever had been set before him. Next came the Rage-mage. *side note, each character won initiative against the Bugbear* He uses his first action to move back 40 ft. I move up 40ft but still not close enough to attack. Mage then casts Bull's Strength. I move up again and throw my Javelin, and miss due to range. Mage casts Enlarge Person. I get a little worried and Rage and close in *AoO, he hits* I miss. He rages and whollops me a good half of my hit points with Power Attack active. I hit back, for a good number, but he is still on his feet. He attacks again and my Bugbear disappears as his HP reach 0. Next up is the Druid. He begins by summoning a Dire wolf and then sends both of them (wolf companion and summoned dire wolf) to flank me. I attack his Animal companion and hit hard, but do not drop. Then his wolf trips me *does not get an immediate attack*, and his summoned dire wolf attacks and hurts me pretty bad. The druid then casts Fire Blade and moves up 5ft. I stand up (provoking an AoO which hits) I attack the Dire Wolf that hit me last and do some decent damage, it is still standing. The wolf trips me again, the dire wolf attacks (I am really hurting now) and the Druid moves up and attacks. I stand up and attack the druid for minimal damage. They then kill me. Then comes the Elf. She wisely stops me in my tracks with Entangle, and begins to pick me off at range. I takes me 4 rounds to force my way through making strength checks while raging (so she was able to force me to burn through my rage). I get out and try to attack her, but can't always connect with her decent AC. My rage then runs out and I become fatigued and she just flits away from me since I can't charge. She finishes me off quickly after that. Last but not least the Rogue/Paladin. When he shows up and hears the command to begin he reacts by asking who wants this and why? So I fling my javelin at him...nail him for good damage...till you take away his natural DR. He then readies an action to fling it back at me if I take any more "violent" actions toward him. Well, I draw my sword and he nails me. He makes an intimidate check, but because this Bugbear is not real nothing happens. Bugbear charges and hits the Orc with for some decent damage..again till you add in the DR. He again tells me to stop this, and then sees that the Bugbear has no reaction in his eyes, and then precedes to beat the ever loving day lights out of the Bugbear till he too disappears. After all the "heroes" have had their turn, the man that called them all here introduces himself and the reason why he has called them here. He explains that the drow and grey dwarves have joined forces under the banner of who they believe to be their hero come back to life "Think an evil Arthur legend". the heroes are sent out to determine the size and intentions of the army. The man drops them off at the edge of a forest patrolled by Goblinoids (they are the buffer zone in front of the Drow lands). The social character is able to talk their way past two patrols (I acted out the patrols as a real military group would react, being military myself) he not only rolled well, but had a good story to back it up. They reach the outskirts of the Drow city roughly 3 days later. They send in the social character to search out the city and see if they can hide out in an Inn...since either the Drow or Dwarf military camps would be harder to stay hidden in for long. He manages to find a similar sized group staying in the seedier part of town and makes "contact" with them trying to seduce the female drow. He promises to come back the next day and then buys some clothes for other characters in town. The next day the entire party make their way into the city, the only hiccup was when the gate guards asked them to register their orc slave. But they managed to get through that fairly well. They ended up able to quietly kill the drow they planned on replacing and are now making plans to Gather Info about the armies, and sow dissent. Should be interesting. This has more intrigue than I would normally put in a campaign, but since one my PC's is a social wiz-kid I had to have something for him to do so he wouldn't feel useless. |
