| Dragoloth01-12-07, 09:18 PM | In an ongoing campaign (16 months and running) a player of mine wants to ascend. He role-plays a complete pyro with an aversion to water excellently. He is a 23rd lvl spellcaster and has created (with my approval) some of his own spells. He now wants to "ascend to a new level". He isnt sure what exactly he wants from this which makes it hard to say yes or no. He wants to work on this with me, but I think once he "ascends to a higher level" he(the character not the player) would no longer be concerned with adventuring. I have two questions : 1- Am I wrong to just say no or let him ascend then his character becomes a npc. 2-If I allow him to ascend and continue to be a pc any suggestions what his ascension would entail. Any help would be appreciated. |

I figure a being that suddenly gains a fire subtype or type would probably count as being ascended although not as much as if he wants godhood. Perhaps his pyro power could cause him to transfrom into a fire elemental for some undetermined reason that you could use as a possible plot hook. |

I personally would let his character go on a quest or do some great deed, then as the ending the character would ascend to Godhood and become an NPC. And possibly the next PC the player makes could worship him. (I like that idea.) |

The Deity system is based around the deities being extraordinarilly powerful even BEFORE their ascention, and I'm not talking normal epic. ALL of the deities have at least 40 charracter levels plus 20 levels of outisder, THEN their deific ranks {read: levels in GOD} |
| Daergal_the_Black01-13-07, 01:02 AM | I think turning him into a half-fire elemental would be best...perhaps couple it with the title "elemental lord" and respect being given from creature from the plane of fire and enmity from creatures of other elemental planes, but getting all those free goodies should be a whole quest in and of itself, and a dangerous one. 23rd level is not high enough, imo, for godhood, but more than enough for lots of respect and special titles. |
| Dragoloth01-13-07, 10:04 AM | Thanks for all the posts. I think the elemental sounds good. |
| Artector01-13-07, 10:16 AM | About the Godhood thing. I tihnk it was just the way I associated the word "Ascend". After reading the other's suggestions I agree, half-elemental sounds pretty good. |
| Ragix01-13-07, 04:08 PM | If by "ascend," you mean attain deity status, then we have a problem. He is simply not strong enough to achieve deity status. On average, the deities of the pantheon have about 40 character levels. He has slightly more than half that. I'd say that 31 or higher should be enough for him to ascend. Once he reaches that point, it should be just fine to let him do that. Also, he needn't be an NPC. Deities don't really adventure. They do, however, have conflicts with other deities. He could try to influence the lives of his followers. There could be an open fight with another deity. The game is different, but it should be no less fun. I suggest getting "Deities and Demigods" before getting into that. |
| PoeticJustice01-13-07, 04:36 PM | First, Ignore the talking heads who claim level 23 isn't powerful enough for deification. Even if he's not powerful enough NOW, we can presume he will be by the end of whatever quest you send him on. Second, I would contend that he's not all that far off for deific power. The Fiendish Codex series seems to indicate that extraplanar powers (Gods, Archdevils, Demon Princes) top out around CR 30. Therefore, a good epic quest will put him right in line to assume control of a level of the Abyss, Hell, Celestia, whatever. Then, if he really wants to, he can make a cult of personality, and in time he'll be a god. |

Allow him to manipulate said area as a deity can manipulate its domain and set it up however he wishes. Be sure to run occasional campaigns in the future across said domain for some reason or another. Perhaps later PCs could even meet this fiery demigod. |
| Cromag01-13-07, 05:03 PM | I'm surprised he hasn't take any levels in elemental savant, you could easily just make that available as a class, or if it fits, which it sounds like it does you could always retroctively change some of his sorceror levels to elemental savant and he would "ascend". If you just want it as an award, offer the final part (where he becomes elemental) as an epic feat with some appropriate pre-reqs. |

The Fiendish Codex series seems to indicate that extraplanar powers (Gods, Archdevils, Demon Princes) top out around CR 30. They're called aspects for a reason. Gods, Archdevils, Demon Princes range from CR 50 to CR 80. |
