For instance, how many would an unbodied get (see EPH, they are a race of beings made up of pure mental energy), since they can't put any points into strength? Or a vampire PC? Or even worse, a Ghost Pc (who can't put points in constitituion or strength) |
| Shedeo03-18-06, 01:33 PM | Well, the only solution I can see to this is too easily abused. Have him put his aiblity scores into the abilities, then apply the template, but he could just as easily leave them as 8's. This is a problem that, off the top of my head, I cant think of an easy solution to. Hmm... |
| Lord Ian Stark03-18-06, 01:48 PM | Have them roll for stats. This way the Min Maxing will be minimized to putting their two lowest rolls into those slots instead. Not a perfect fix but not as bad as the pointbuy min-maxing. |
| Someone03-18-06, 02:03 PM | My quick fix would just put 2 pts. in as if they were going to be 10s. It ends up being the same ability modifier (+0). |
| Shedeo03-18-06, 02:44 PM | Ah ha! Someone is smart! Wait, that just sounds wonky. Anyways, yes, I'd agree and reduce their total points down to 24 and say that their str/con are both 10's, same ability score modifier. Good thinking! |
| Zherog03-18-06, 02:56 PM | My quick fix would just put 2 pts. in as if they were going to be 10s. It ends up being the same ability modifier (+0). I play a construct in a game I'm in (a maug, from the Fiend Folio). This is what we did for any character with a non ability. |
| revnk03-18-06, 03:14 PM | :ahem: You could, of course, talk to the players about designing their characters as if they were alive before applying the template, trusting them, in the spirit of the game, not to nerf a spam a stat they weren't going to need as undead. A player might even have fun bragging about how strong he was before he was a ghost. Granted that not every player plays fair, but why do DMs on these threads seem to assume the basest motives and acts to their gaming groups? Am I just lucky to know players who will put points into "useless" skills and stats in an effort to add depth to their characters? Am I the only one who suspects that the lack of trustworthiness in players is often a reflection of the lack of trust their DMs place in them? You might find that trusting your players results in them behaving in a trustworthy manner, and vice versa. Just a thought. Good luck. |
