| psychocow06-03-05, 11:26 PM | Ok so I love the New Lords of Madness especially the very Cthulu feal of a lot of it. My next campaign will probably heavily influenced by the book along with being a very Psionic campaign. So the BBEGs I've got right now are a broken off sect of a few illithids who are broken off from their respective illithid communities. This is really because they're quite mad as they're chosen professions will show. One is an Alienist who will have a small zoo of pseudonatural creatures to thwart the PCs. Another will be a Fleshwarper who will put together Frankstein like monsters together to serve as some seriously tough baddies the PCs will have to deal with. Now I want all the BBEGs to be have created an enclave to work together to their utterly mad goals but those two by them selves don't seem like a high council of insanity. I need at least a third Nutty illithid Specialist of some sort. I want them to have a class specialization that proves their insanity and possibly be more of a mind warping character. I kind of had the idea of some sort of psionically powerful villain who spreads insanity like a disease (will be using some sort of madness variant). I also though about some sort of cleric with the madness domain. I need some help with this last one so make the craziest baddy you can think of starting with the prerequisite of it being illithid. |
| Encard06-03-05, 11:31 PM | Hmm... I seem to remember there being a Lunatic class in a 3rd-party supplement called The Book of Broken Dreams that spread madness, although I could be wrong. I can't think of any WotC classes that do this, though... You might simply want to go with a Telepath Psion, or possibly a Mindbender (PrC from Complete Arcane). Hmm... A cuistom variant of the Cancer Mage from the BoVD might work, if I correctly remember how that one works. Hmm... You could also try for an Illithid Savant (prC from Savage Species) with multiple personalities influenced by those it's consumed. Not quite the same thing, but still potentially cool (and absurdly powerful, if designed right). I'm curious, what sorts of mad goals are these Flayers working toward? |

| psychocow06-04-05, 12:07 AM | Kinda liking the illithid savant, down know if it's schizo enough yet, same thing with the cancer mage. The council will have varying views on individual goals and ideals but the concensus between them is that the illithid were half right in their want to dominate the world and all the humanoid races. They think that what really should be done is to change and warp the world in "their own image" effectively reshaping the world instead of making in bend to their will. Turning the populous into more of zombies(aberant warped mindless beings) than slaves. To humans the difference may be negligable but to the greater illithid community it's almost treason. At some point the humans will even have to travel into an illithid village to learn of the councils past and perhaps get some less that wholesome help. Keep the ideas coming. |
| Uratoh06-04-05, 12:49 AM | So you've got a bunch of mind flayers thatd rather live on tofu than meat and potatos, then. Remember, the intelligent mind of a free-thinking individual is the most delicious to an illithid...slaves raised in captivity with no freedom to think just dont taste good...and imagine how bad essentially living drones would taste... |
| psychocow06-04-05, 12:56 AM | ok so it's the story line and stuff is still under construction. You must remember that these creatures aren't going to be remotely sane. They may even all be the Thralls of some great mad deity its all kind of up in the air right now. All I know is it'll help once I get the main pieces put down like BBEGs. I still need to put together the illithid society opposed to them. It really all kind of depends on this last NPC and the influence it'll have on the group as a whole. This is really one of the bulding blocks of the adventure. |
