| roll8dn07-02-04, 01:08 PM | I was wondering if there is a resource anywhere that shows the changes from 2e to 3e. I intend to use some of the older 2e modules from the Forgotten Realms in my campaign, but I have not played 2e in over a decade (and my memory for those rules was spotty when I played it). So, if anyone knows of a comprehensive list of changes, I would be most appreciative. Thank you all in advance. |

Be warned that the conversion is not perfect. The builds in 2E and 3E are very different, especially for multiclass characters. Multiclass characters in converted to 3E tend to be very weak compared to single class characters. The multiclass system is very different. It was overpowered in 2E and underpowered for any spellcasting classes in 3E. Multiclass spellcasters will be very, very disappointed once they are converted to 3E. |

After you have done this "conversion," check the ELs of the various encounters to make sure everthing has the right balance and flow. Traps work the same way. Any creatures that are not found in the new books or have significantly different abilities, you will have to customize. Look at this website for some ideas as to how it can be done. http://66.34.111.89/Eric/3econversionsdocs.htm#Adventures |

Like has been suggested, port monsters directly then adjust for CR ... port NPCs directly then adjust for CR ... special or custom built NPCs should be readjusted ... and certain things have to be taken into consideration (for example, I ran a 2E version of Dragonlance ... before they came out with the 3E version of Dragonlance ... the various elven subtypes were easy ... I didn't allow PC gnomes as it would mean too much work for me up front and not enough reward down the road ... I had to make the various Draconians ... and most importantly I had to scale the Dragons to fit the campaign ... I mean ... they're supposed to fight an Ancient Huge Black Dragon in their first adventure ... to survive I made it much weaker and said that it had been stuck guarding this little known post ... mainly to avoid attracting attention). It can be done but it does take some work ... good luck with it! |
