3 players and CR [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-29-05, 10:22 AM A 20 CR monster is a worthy challange for 4 people party of 2oth level. What is a likley balanced chalange for 3 players of the same level? And what is balanced for 2?
It would be of great help if someone has an idea about it.

04-29-05, 10:27 AM For the 3 characters the one 20th level thing should be just as easy. At that level the amount of cohorts, summoned creatures, Simulacrum spell, and the many otherways of killing one creature is too easy.

As far as two characters I would say just minus 2 from the CR. Unless the characters are poorly made or don't have a lot of magical items.

04-29-05, 11:01 AM I would still send them against CR20 monsters, because lesser monsters are generally helpless against high-level characters. You'll just have to expect them to fight less monsters or overcome less encounters in a day.

04-29-05, 11:18 AM Drop the CR of your encounters by 1 for the first 10 levels and 2 after that.

They have no cleric/druid nor rouge or a bard...
