3 riddles needed [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-29-05, 03:19 PM HI, i dont post here often but need some help:
i need three riddles for my campaign, i can solve riddels and had fun with the riddle thread, but i need theese three to have two to four answers that might be right so its not to easy.
example:
after walking down the long corridoor you entre a small chamber, to your front are 4 doors each with a symbol above, on the wall to the left is some writting.........
so they read the puzzel and have to figure out which symbol is the right one to lead the right way, but symbols will have to possible answers but only one is the perfect answer get me?
any way thanks for any help you all can give.

The Seasons: Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall
Card Suits: Spades, Clubs, Hearts, Diamonds
The Elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Air
Compass Directions: North, South, East, West
Phases of the Moon: First Quarter, Full Moon, Third Quarter, New Moon
99 Lives Directions: Up, Down, Left, Right :D

Ok, now use 2 or more of these in a riddle where you intend only one of the sets to be the MAIN clues.

Not sure if that REALLY helps you at all, but its all I've got for ya at the moment. ;)

It sleeps for years
Then quickly wakes
It shifts in bed, its body shakes
Its blood flows red,
Then turns to black.
It sleeps again,
But may come back.

Answer: A Volcano! :D

Now was that good or what go get ure riddles!

Four brothers walk the land.
The tallest is first, the shortest last.
The lightest is second and the heaviest is third.
The firstborn has blue eyes, the lastborn, green.
Red hair adorns the middle brothers.
Calloused hands have the oldest two.
Poor eyes have the youngest two.
The farm supports all.
Some work there, other elsewhere.
The last follows the first.
The second follows none.
The third follows no man.

Within one chamber sits a tome of ancient knowledge, the other three hold death. Choose your brother wisely.

There are four doors, each one smaller than the next. The third one is the right one.

(OK, so that's real quick, and off the top of my head, but you can clean it up at your leisure...I was trying to make the third brother be the scholar).

You can see it now. It ripples with movement”. The four symbols are air fire water and earth.

Can anyone suggest a better wording to the riddle, the way I did it is: ‘its all around you’ eliminates the water as its only in one corner, the ‘you can see it now’ eliminates air as you cant see air, and the ‘ripples’ eliminate earth, I am thinking they will forget they are surrounded by fire, which ripples and can be seen!

Interesting...I first thought of water rather than the fire.

Its all around you - Water Vapor
You can see it now - I can see the pool of water
It ripples with movement - Water definitely ripples with movement.

Funny how I was so sure...but got it wrong.

08-29-05, 06:25 PM Simple one you can use, especally if you have new players to riddles, or characters who like to bash stuff.

Have a barrel in a room filled with liquid or something. It weighs twenty pounds. Perhaps some letter or wording can ask or state.
"This weighs twenty pounds. To enter, you must add something to it, so that it weights fifteen pounds.

Answer: A hole! Put a hole amoung the side until it hits down to the desired level of wieght.

08-29-05, 07:11 PM The PCs come across a chamber which contains four doors. One door is made of glass, another from magical ice, the third of raw force, and the last of colorful (but basically worthless) gems. In between them is a reflecting pool. After a few seconds, words appear in the pool:

You never see me coming, but you always know when I'm there. When I am large and strong, I am imposing; but I am far more dangerous when I am thin and weak. What am I?

The true path is behind the ice door.

08-29-05, 07:23 PM This riddle may have come up somewhere else on these boards, but my players enjoyed it. The PCs (low level, new to riddles) had found a piece of a map leading them to a crypt dungeon, detailing a room:

To the north lies a room, a bas-relief depicting some long-forgotten battle carved into the masonry. Doors are set into each of three walls - north, east and west, with ancient script carved into their frames. The center of each door depicts stylized objects: a sprig of mistletoe and a garden hoe to the north, a pair of crossed daggers to the east, and a chalice sheathed in flame to the west.

A stone casket lying in the center of the room marks the final resting place of some forgotten hero. Even casual observation tells you that you aren't the first to have found this place - nothing of value remains in the crypt, and the displacement of the casket's heavy lid indicates that even the remains within have been plundered by looters.

The riddle on the PC's map fragment showed the room and contained a drawing of mistletoe and a dagger, and read the following:

He who makes me, sells me
He who acquires me, does not use me
He who uses me, does not know me

The answer is "casket". The three doors in the room each led to empty/trapped sections, while the bottom of the casket slid away to reveal a passageway leading down into the real crypt. The script on each of the door frames contained one line of the riddle - the symbols are red herrings.

It worked for us because the PCs assumed that whoever made the map was just copying the door scripts, and didn't bother with the casket for quite some time since they figured that it held nothing of interest given that it was already half open, and casually looking inside only revealed the corpse stripped by looters. The panel operated on a pressure system - once the PCs removed the weight of the corpse, it slid open.

I was thinking it was the air

It's all aroud you. Air is.
You can see it now. The smoke.
It ripples with movement. The heat waves from the torches.
