One of my players couldn't play this weekend, or nexed, so I ran a DM PC ranger 17, with Rog.17, Clr.17, Ftr.17,Wiz.17. all old PCs from last campaign. In Bastion of broken souls, For 4-18th Lvl PCs, Copy write 2002, First encounter was very tough but I figured that was OK cause evil guy was suposed to kidnap my Ranger. Rescuing him was very! difficult, but I let the PCs off easy. Then the replacements for the first evil guy were to attack.....3- CR20 Balore deamons Better than Avg.(+6 more to Att, Hp 115, 118, 120, Str.32) MM. says Hp 250ish and Att already astronomical!! Whoa... DM on the fly Sub Nalfeshnee and Glabrazu.... What a pain. and what am I going to do about the rest nexed week?:weep:

Umm..since this Mod. (modual) is 3.0 and all my books are 3.5, it seems the ELs (encounter levels) are way higher than intended,
ie. 3 balores.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Whats the CR (chalenge rating) for a 3.0 Balor?
It looks like they had 1/2 as many HPs (Hit Points).
Is there an easy way to convert to 3.5?

Module, not modual; and next, not nexed.

Now, if I understand what you're writing, you had a player not show up and threw in an NPC to help out. As for the monsters, I recommend reading over the module and deciding ahead of time what needs to be altered. No module is ever going to know your players. You know you're players and their characters, you should have a good idea what they can and can't take.

Without a copy of the module, I can't tell you what changes you should and shouldn't make.
