| Toloran11-16-06, 10:03 PM | My friend that I occasionally swap DMing roles with got a new book: Book of Vile Darkness. As he was rattling off all the different effects of being corrupted/tainted (whatever it is called) he mentioned about gaining a DR based on your HD. I asked him how much and he said (for a 5-7 HD creature) it is 5/+1. It was then that i remembered/realized that BoVD is a 3.0 book and we normally play 3.5. Hmm... So here is my question: How does one go about converting 3.0 DR into 3.5 DR? Any advice or links would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: It might have been Heroes of Horror. He got them both at the same time so I am not sure which one he was quoting from. |

As far as converting damage reduction is concerned, it's not always a straitforward task. Something with DR x/+1 would probably just be converted to x/magic. For some of the more powerful creatures, different materials or alignments will overcome that damage reduction, even when a +20 greataxe wouldn't (for instance, fey and some fiends now have damage reduction x/ cold iron, instead of an enhancement value). Best suggestion I can offer is, is you can't find the information you need in the errata and updates, post again with specifics of what you want updated, and people here will help. |

(angel/arcon is a perfect good guy dr scale) most (lyncropathy is the only exception i can fathom) templates and such grant /magic. |

The iron golem is a good example. In 3.0, it had DR 50/+3, which made it pretty much immune to anything with an enhancement bonus less than +3. Now it's DR 15/adamantine. Thus, adamantine weapons will damage it normally, and all other weapon damage will be reduced by 15. That means that even if you don't have an adamantine weapon, you can damage the thing, since it's not impossible to exceed 15 points of damage. Check equivalents from other 3.5 sources when converting, and that should help with the BoVD. |
