| Anor12-06-05, 11:50 AM | Hello, I played 3.0 for a long time and I designed my rogue to be a significant melee combatant. When designing him, I picked Blooded, Improved Initiative, Expert Tactician, Two-Weapon Fighting and Weapon Finess. Now when Complete Adventurer came out, they totally redesigned the Expert Tactician feat to the worse. Now to the question, how are one going to handle situation like these when a feat changes so dramatically from one version to another? I feel totally fooled if im just going to upgrade my Expert Tactician to 3.5. I'd rather continue playing with the feat as 3.0, but I agree that one should keep things up to date. But then atleast letting me pick another since they nerfed it so badly would seem appropriate. What are your view on this? |
| clarkvalentine12-06-05, 11:54 AM | My view is that you shouldn't mix-and-match 3.0 and 3.5. Either go all the way to 3.5 lock stock and barrel, or stay with 3.0. If you go to 3.5, redesign the PC from the ground up. A decent GM will let you be flexible and make a few changes if your old set of feats/skills/spells/whatever no longer make much sense. |
| Anor12-06-05, 12:08 PM | Agree about not mixing 3.0 and 3.5, but since i picked the feat when there were no 3.5 conversion and now that there is one but totally changed from the 3.0 version I feel that keeping it as 3.5 is even worse. I want to pick another feat instead of the 3.5 Expert Tactician really. Its not the one I picked from Sword and Fist. |

When our group converted over from 3.0 to 3.5, we pretty much rebuilt our PCs. Feats that didn't work out so well anymore, our GM let us toss out and pick different ones. It really worked out well for everyone. See if that's an option. |

| Azar the sly12-06-05, 02:09 PM | I think you should just change your feat. 3.5 only updates 3.0 books I think that if you do not mix them all you are doing is wasting material that can still be used. |
| VerinBlod12-06-05, 02:45 PM | If I where your DM I wouldn't mind if you choose another feat instead. Actually that is what we did when we changed from 3.0 to 3.5. Everyone could swap around their feats, skills and even classes but only if the change wouldn't hinder the general feel of the PC. I.E. one of my players plays an elf woodsman specialised in archery. In 3.5 he wanted to have more ranger levels instead of fighter levels than he would have in 3.0. So I let him. In the end the basic look and feel of the PC isn't changed. He's still the skilled woodsman specialised in archery. |
