| Herr Doktor05-12-04, 12:43 AM | I'm looking for a BIG list of 3.5 adventures that have been published, either by Wizards of the Coast, other d20 companies, or in Dungeon magazine. A player in my group decided he'd DM but he hates setting things up, but he'd have no problem running premade adventures. What good 3.5 adventures have been released? |
| Eldren05-12-04, 01:39 AM | I don't know of any modules (pre-published adventures) that WotC has published since 3.5 came out. The focus at Wizards of the Coast, as far as Dungeons & Dragons goes, doesn't seem to be in the publishing of modules like it was in 1st Edition and 2nd Edition, it seems to be on publishing rulebooks and then encouraging Dungeon Masters to come up with their own adventures. I think the last module to have been published by WotC, honestly, was the mega-adventure "City of the Spider Queen" (which, coincidentally, I'm getting ready to run my party through). But that was a 3.0 adventure. It isn't too horribly difficult to modify existing 3.0 adventures, however, to accommodate 3.5. Look on the main Dungeons & Dragons website at www.wizards.com/dnd and click on "Adventures" on the navigation bar to the left. It'll take you to a huge repository of web-published adventures that WotC has written since 3rd Edition came out, and I've used at least two of them myself; if you're careful about which ones you use (in other words, read them before you incorporate them into your campaign), you'll find they're honestly pretty decent little adventures. Otherwise, look into the modules which have already been published, and just have a really good working knowledge of the differences between 3.0 and 3.5 (and some of them are pretty subtle, so be aware of those subtleties), and you shouldn't have much difficulty at all switching stuff over. |

| DeWayne05-12-04, 03:00 AM | Have him check out the Dungeon Crawl Classics series by Goodman Games. Link here (http://www.goodman-games.com/index.php) They do a really good job of maintaining the feel of the 1st edition AD&D modules - you know, kill things and steal stuff without having to worry about too much detail. This might make them a good place for your friend to start out. |
| olshanski_home05-12-04, 12:22 PM | Necromancer Games has been putting out a slow but steady stream of adventures for 3.5. Pretty much anything they printed after 3.5's release is made for 3.5. You could check thier website if you are interested. |
| CaineTheInsaine05-12-04, 12:41 PM | Actually, I can understand why they are releasing Eberron<sp> moduals, to help give people an ideal what Wizards thinks an adventure set there should feel like. But I personally am happy they are not releasing more moduals. Its so much more satisfing to me as a DM to create my own adventures. Check out the adventures section of the D&D site, that should help. Just take a lil time to update. |
| olshanski_home05-12-04, 03:48 PM | Caine, I understand how writing adventures is a very fun creative outlet, and probably the best part of DMing. As a player, I prefer to play in pre-made adventures for a number of reasons: 1. I can talk about the adventure with other players who ran through it and tried different things... we can compare notes on party composition, and how different DMs handled different tactics. 2. A lot of the prep work is done ahead of time, there are fewer times when I feel the DM is "winging it"... although this still happens in pregen adventures. 3. I feel like it is a game of players vs the published adventure, rather than players vs DM. 4. Having played with DMs who write thier own stuff and use pre-published adventures... I always feel a little bit more railroaded when the DM is running his own stuff... perhaps this is because some DMs have more invested in what they wrote and are a little more eager to have players follow the plot that they have written... whereas DMs with published adventures are more willing to let the players have free reign... even if it means "breaking" the pre-published adventure. |
| lasergreger05-12-04, 05:30 PM | City of the Spiderqueen is the only 3.5 adventure out there so far i believe? |
| primemover00305-12-04, 06:14 PM | CotSQ is definitely not 3.5... Just get a subscription to Dungeon. You will NOT regret it. They are re-releasing the classic Maure castle dungeon with a new level. Greyhawk at it's greatest! |
