Apparently it says that you can't make a five foot step during a spin attack when using a special ability or feat described in one of the prestige classes in sword and fist. This seems to indicate that a player can make a spin attack against one series of opponents, take a five foot step and then spin attack a new set of opponents.

So can you or can you not?

I would say not, because movement and attack represent the whole rounds action. Not, attack, move, and attack again.

P.S. On second thought, the feat description (not being able to move and spin attack) may just be a reminder to the player only. Not a reference that other feats are different. Similar to the line in Dodge saying that dodge bonus stack with each other (leading one to assume dodge can be taken twice).

Spin attack? I am not quite familiar with what that is. Do you mean whirlwind? Because that is easily answered. Anyway, before anyone else beats it over your head, that is 3.0 not 3.5, although it doesn't really matter depending on your DM.

I don't know what a spin attack is but it has to be some type of action, standard, full attack, etc., as for the 5-foot step, unless I am mistaken it can be made before, during, or after an action or attack. So, to answer your question, unless 'spin attack' is a move action (which you can take 2 of a round) then whoever you are concerned with won't be getting 2 of them off (standards and full attacks are not 2 times in one round.) Hope that helped.

You can take a 5-foot step before, during, or after your other actions in the round.I don't know what Spin Attack is, however. It doesn't sound like Whirlwind Attack, as that's in the 3.0 PHB. Perhaps Circle Kick?

Yes is is whirlwind attack I was reffering to. Nice explanation, albino, makes sense: only one standard action per round. seems weird that sword and fist would mention it though.

Er...
We only recently moved from 3.0 to 3.5 so I'm not sure what the reference was. Are you telling me there is no whirlwind attack in 3.5?

3.5 has Whirlwind Attack, but it's been nerfed a little bit...

WHIRLWIND ATTACK [GENERAL]

Prerequisites: Dex 13, Int 13, Combat Expertise, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, base attack bonus +4.

Benefit: When you use the full attack action, you can give up your regular attacks and instead make one melee attack at your full base attack bonus against each opponent within reach.

When you use the Whirlwind Attack feat, you also forfeit any bonus or extra attacks granted by other feats, spells, or abilities.

Special: A fighter may select Whirlwind Attack as one of his fighter bonus feats.

There is a whirlwind attack in 3.5, so no worries. I was only hoping people wouldn't come on, as they often do, ready to beat you because you mentioned 3.0
