| mindflayer4u09-27-07, 05:21 PM | How do you figure XP when you have 6 PCs instead of 4? ex. 6 2nd PCs and a level 1 encounter. I knows it's overkill but, how would you divide XP among 6 characters? Thanks for the help in advance. |
| Kaligrad09-27-07, 05:27 PM | It's quite simple. You just divide the xp received by 6 instead of 4. |
| Aminvelos09-27-07, 05:35 PM | Look at the xp table for each individual character. Lets say a party of 6 faces 2 CR 5's and one CR 7 4 of the PC's are lvl six one is lvl 5 and the last is lvl 7 Exp. for lvl 7 (CR7 = 2,100/6 = 350 CR5 = 1,050/6 = 175) 525 total xp Exp. for lvl 6's ( CR7 = 2,700/6 = 450 CR5 = 1,200/6 = 200) 650 total xp Exp. for lvl 5 (CR7 = 3,000/6 = 500 CR5 = 1,500/6 = 250) 750xp total |
| tricky_bob09-27-07, 06:43 PM | Look in the DMG for advise about increasing the difficulty of encounters when you have larger parties, eg increasing the number of the lowest CR creature in the encounter etc. This will make things challenging, whereas, leaving the encounters as written will make them too easy early on and possibly too difficult later when the PC's haven't leveled as much as the adventure assumes they have, thus possibly leaving the Fighter low on hit points compared to the damage out-put of the creatures in the encounter, or, any of the parties Saves lower than expected when it comes to spells and traps. Having said that the chart in the DMG is somewhat flakey in reality, and IMO should only be used as a guide rather than a table of absolutes. Think Chaos rather than Lawful! As others have said...divide by 6 rather than 4. |
| deafbymetal09-27-07, 06:46 PM | If you have access to a pc/laptop during gametime, you can download this handy little page- http://www.geocities.com/edymnionii/EPLvsEL.html. Or, figure out average awards before hand and keep notes on them, then after an encounter just refer to your notes. |
| mindflayer4u09-27-07, 08:41 PM | I am going to increases the CRs next session. I am running the Barrow of the Forgotten King online and I need some new tools or tricks to get through it. I really like the encounter calulator. Thanks |
| CCS09-28-07, 03:21 AM | Evenly. Seriously, assuming everyone was participating - or trying to at least, what other answer would you expect? The only downside to this is that it means it'll take the group about 50% longer to level up. Personally I'm fine with that..... |
| IceFractal09-28-07, 03:42 AM | Re: Taking 50% longer to level: Not necessarily - with 6 PCs, they should be able to handle encounters that are at least +1 CR tougher, or a larger number of the same strength encounters each game. So the XP rate should roughly balance out. |
