I am about to start a 6th level game. I need some good ideas and material that I could use in my adventure. I want it to some how include a big villain, like some wizard or something. I want it to be something kind of diffrent, that is fast pace and up in the PC's face. Please give me a few ideas!

Thanks!:D

6th level? Perfect! The BBEG could be something nasty like a lich or vampire or illithid! I prefer the Illithid. (Not quite as worn out.)

If you want it to be something different, try one of the alternate magic systems. He could be a practitioner of:

Incarnum
Psionics
Truename Magic
Shadow Magic
Pact Magic
The Sublime Way.

All of which are fun, really. Incarnum may be the best, as it's still pretty good at low class levels (because of the LA.)

thanks a bunch! But I need some more stuff, I was thinking that the wizard would summon a demon and it gets out of control and imprisons him or something like that, thanks for your ideas! i will defiantly use them!:D

It's too odd a spelling error not to quote it. Unless it's not an error, in which case, .

I would also tend towards illithid BBEGs. Perhaps a mind flayer has found a way to cause some sort of far-realm portal to come into existence, and the PCs end up having to fight off hordes of psuedonatural enemies. At ECL 6, a chaos beast would also be an interesting challenge.

Thanks again!:P

Well, off the top of my head (and heavily influenced by the Synmpathy for Evil thread on the Mature Boards), how about this:

The elderly wizard was formerly Neutral Good, and is still known as quite a (possibly local) hero. His wife, also elderly was reaching the end of her life and the wizard didn't want to lose her (you cannot be Raised or Resurrected if you die of old age). He summoned the demon in an effort to prolong his wife's life (without her knowledge), but the demon unexpectedly broke free from his control, killed his wife and possessed his only other living relative, his young granddaughter.

The demon can kill the granddaughter at any moment (then it will be incorporeal again--though free to try to possess another body) and has been using the threat of killing the wizard's last surviving relative to make the wizard do his bidding.

Bearing responsibility for his wife's death and his granddaughter's situation has caused the wizard to snap a bit, as in his grief he is willing to do anything, even committing evil acts, in order to preserve his granddaughter's life. The demon seeks to gain power through his puppet, the wizard.

Ultimately, it is the demon who is the BBEG...but the wizard will be the one the PCs see and hear about until they finally get close to him and learn the truth.

There's a lot that you can do with that basic premise. Figuring out what the demon's objectives are and how he anbd the wozard would accomplish them is wide open. Also, perhaps the granddaughter is already dead...her soul having moved on to the Outer Planes...and the demon just pretends to occasionally "let her out" to plead with her grandfather to save her. Or perhaps she is still alive and the players can find some way to save her. If they do, the old wizard is still a bit crazy and may still try to kill them, or he may quietly surrender.

I don't actually know what the rules are for "demonic possession" though I recall seeing them in some supplement. Presumably, it would be easier to possess a child than an old and powerful wizard.

Holy moly Pandaemoni what a great plot! That is great, I can do so much with that. It's wonderful. If anyone has anymore ideas please post it! I love the demon idea, yet i will consider the illitihid plot, if i get more detail in that plot i might go with it. :D

Well you could make the wizard one who was always interested in the idea of animating things so they could work for him (brooms sweep by themselves, knives that cut meat for you, etc.).

I did something similar with a campaign and put them in a dungeon where wild magic had overblown a simple spell. Half the dungeon (literally) was animate and murderous. Tables, candelabras, chairs, doors and everything else attacked them.

The beauty was the paranoia this caused after the first 2 encounters. For the entire length of the 34 room dungeon, they were afraid to rest, afraid to go through doors, afraid to sit down in chairs, afraid to check for secret doors behind tapestries and bookshelves. It was a terrific adventure and really changed how they operated.

I can't help but be remined of The Exorcist at this moment, which of course leads to . . .
Pazuzu. An evil wind demon, who besides being a D&D demon lord, was demon in real-world sumerian mythology, and possessed the girl Regan in the Exorcist.

He was also a gargoyle-like creature in an episode of Futurama. Everybody loves Pazuzu.

After further thought, I'd probably have the granddaughter be actually dead already, with her corpse animated by the spirit of the demon. The demon would pretend she's still alive and have access to the memories of her life (as if he were using an instantaneous version of Speak with Dead), but only to keep his hold on the wizard.

The reasons I'd kill her off are threefold:

First, it removes the moral problem the players may face, should confront her. There is no "innocent" to harm

Second, you can play with the notion of this ghoulish/undead revived body that the demon inhabits. It could well be partially decayed, with (i) the demon telling the wizard that the "strain" of maintaining the two spirits in one body is causing the deterioration, or (ii) the wizard simply being so crazed that he's deluding himself in accepting that she's alive (and believing the demon's bluffs) despite the evidence of physical decay or (iii) the demon's using Disguise Self (as a spell-like ability at will) to make the body appear as it was in life. Also, because having a dangerous undead child corpse is creepy.

Third, it allows for there to be a "final showdown" between the PCs and the "little girl" in which she is a real and physical threat to them, despite her (necessarily) low strength and lack of natural attacks while living. You could accomplish this in other ways too (like though the demon's spell-like abilities), but it seems like a natural fit.

Also...perhaps "fourth", when the PCs defeat the demon, the little girl will then obviously be dead and her grandfather (if he has not been defeated himself before that) can ease his own conscience by blaming the PCs for her loss. He'd go from a reluctant villain, doing evil because he felt he had to (but wishing there was another way) to actively trying to murder and harm the PCs, at all costs.

YMMV, but the creepy and dangerous flesh-eating undead adolescent girl and her delusional grandpa holding out hope that she'll be "okay" appeals to me.
