I'm having an argument about a spell with on of my PC's called "Necrotic Termination", and I'm pretty sure he has no idea what he's talking about, and claims the spell is in Libris Mortis, which I do not own, or know anybody who does, and cannot find anything really about it online. If someone could help me find a link, or just give me the spell description, I would appreciate it greatly.

How about something that doesn't violate the CoC? You tell us the argument, we tell you whether or not you're right or he is.

Personally if he's using a spell from a book, I'd have the player BRING the book (or a photocopy of the page the spell is on) and then use that, but then, I like to be a DM who knows what his players are doing.

Necrotic Termination is basically a save-or-die spell that creates a creature from the remains of the victim which has to be infected by a cyst before and can't be ressurected (the victim, that is). It's also a ninth-level spell, so not too powerful...

If he uses it, let him give you a copy (always a good idea for stuff your players want to use and you don't know) or ban it. If the debate is academical, tell us what things seem strange and we will tell you whether its true or false. Libris Mortis is not Open Content, so we can't just post here as we wish.

Yeah, if NONE of you own the book, why are you letting him use it? But in essence, this is what needs to happen with NT:

1. Infect target with necrotic cyst (a separate spell).
2. Hit infected target with NT.
3. Target fails save, dies.
4. Spell causes cyst to consume the remains and create a skulking cyst.

Also note that NT is a 9th level spell, so unless your player is a clr 17/wiz 17/sor 18, he should not be casting it.

Odd name for a PC. ;)

Sorry. I couldn't help myself.

As for your questions, the book does exist, as does the spell, but if you aren't aware of it my personal advice would be to disallow it until you've had a chance to thoroughly examine the book and make sure you're ok with its contents. This goes especially for books like Libris Mortis, which are icky.

Remember, you are under no obligation to use material from books that you are unfamiliar with. If they want to use something, at a minimum, you should borrow the book and read through it before you allow it in your game.
