Is there a rule for how much a wizard, cleric, or sorcerer can make by crafting magic items?

eg: 100 gp per month per caster level?

I'd check the DMGII, it has rules for things like that (or so I hear)
Remember that a PC must expend experience when creating items, so they must also go and adventure to regain the lost xp.

I hate the "xp for crafting" mechanic. If anything, you should gain xp for successfully crafting an item that you hadn't done before.

Crafting magic items, and merely selling them on never actually gains you any money, because you make and sell it at half cost, and you still lose xp. Unless you have Eberron crafting feats, you're always going to be crafting at cost.

I'd sell them to the PCs only, at 80-90% cost, unless you happen to own a magic shop, then you may be able to sell the item.

If i were dming, and my player wanted to sell it, i would sell it at full market price but would require a check every week/month to decide whether or not it sells. The higher the cost of the item, the harder it is to sell, and the bigger the shop, the easier it is.

XP for crafting is a necessary system, it makes crafting items hurt, like they did in 2e, otherwise, you'd be swamped in items. If you really don't like it, use the artificer, it gains craft reserve, and can cannibalize items.

XP for items should stay, unless you require difficult to find specific material componants instead of XP.
It's not like you can go over to the mages guild, shell out 1000 gp, spend a couple days in an inn room, and come out with a +1 weapon, there's supposed to be more to it than that.

Where are you buying the 1,000 gp in material componants?
Where are you getting the base item?
Where is the specially prepared 500gp laboratory that is required in the making?

Making magic items should not be trivial (I say this as an artificier player/fan)

I let players sell their manufactured items at full price (thus getting a 50% markup). I assume it takes twice as long to find a buyer as it does to make the item. On the other hand, I fully enforce the rules on the cost to transcribe spells into spellbooks, so wizards are always hard up for cash.
