A Challenge to your Party [ToM] [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-02-06, 04:13 PM I've just realised an awesome challenge to any party.
Get a creature with Regeneration, or, even better, Fast Healing.
It requires intelligence.

I'll use a Troll for my example.
A troll possesses regeneration 5.

Now, at this moment, that's not that bad a challenge.

Here's what you do:
Either add
1 Binder level with the Improved Binding feat
or
3 Binder levels with the Improved Favored Vestige: Dahlver-Nar feat.

So you're looking at a CR 6 or 8.

Bind Dahlver-Nar.

Use Shield Self on someone from the party. I recommend someone with low hit points yet without a good will save, such as a rogue.
Be sure not to tell what he saved against until the effects are obvious.

You now only take half damage, the rogue takes the rest. You have regeneration. So in fact, you'll barely be losing hitpoints, and the party will slowly be killing the rogue.

05-02-06, 04:18 PM Eh. There are more creative ways of killing party members than this. I suppose that its valid but if the Rogue saves, there goes the tactic.

Will the entire party save against the effect. A troll will have more then 1 round. He can just start with the rogue and move on from here.

05-02-06, 06:14 PM I'd be more afraid of a properly prep'd 8th level druid myself. The rogue specificly will be more afraid of the plain old Huge Elemental.

Half Fiend Troll. Acid and Fire Resistance, DR, SR.

Give it a level in barbarian, cloak of etherealness and a scythe of ghost touch. Many a party's screwed. Plus it looks like a demonic version of the Grim reaper.

Lawful Evil Monk, plus Ghost template. Has malevolence (possession)

Follows from ethereal realm until one PC is isolated, and possesses em. Fights like a freak until near "death" then leaves. Repeat.

Challenge 3

Gnomish Wizard - Illusion Specialist/Rogue/ArcaneTrickster. Has Craft - trapmaking. Lures PCs into home-made place. Many illusory walls. Books with Illusory Script or Phantom Trap, but some books have answers to riddles, traps and so forth that plague the area.

Alternative is Conjuration specialist. Their "deathtraps" would be equally horrid.

True, but in doing so he takes a stanard to do so...meaning no attacks and another possible passed Will save.

Besides, doesn't matter anyways. A 1st level Troll Binder doesn't have access to the Improved Bind Vestige feat unless housrules are used to change its monstorous feats. A 3rd level Troll Binder could do this but, again, probably not the best tactics. Not bad though.
