If one adventure ends with them on some form of transport (ship, giant eagle etc), the next come see them said transport ending up in the wrong place (a shipwreck prehaps). If one or more players has a detailed backstory inlcuding an important goal for said character, then the party could find some minor clue towards this goal during an initially unrelated adventure. The next adventure could then be the party following up on this clue. A possible example of this: Visron (a PC) has an ongoing feud with Thaltalius, leader of the Red Spider syndicate. Visron and his friends are employed by a local noble to rescue the family of a baron the noble wishes to form an alliance with from a cult intending to sacrifice them. During the rescue, Visron encounters slays a very well trained warrior. When searching the body, Visron recognises that this man is an assassin who works exclusivly for the Red Spiders, and has no obvious links to the cult. The next adventure could involve Visron and co. investigating why this man was there and if Thaltalius is conected. |

Perhaps there are clues in each one detailing some of it's history. Perhaps there are clues within the story of that history that villians of all kinds (and maybe even allies) want. Why do they want them? Are there connections between these groups of villians? Are the PCs even correct about what they're after? Continuity is anything that makes the campaign seem continuous instead of a series of different plots. Anything connecting what the PCs have done with what they are now doing works. |

Someone's village got torched, some power structure was toppled, a large amount of cash was dumped into an economy, an ancient secret was discovered, etc. These have repercussions. Someone powerful whose family lived near that village swears vengeance, a new power group worse than the last moves in, local nobility take a fancy to the PCs loot-gaining prowess and hire them with veiled threats, the secret cult who had been searching for the ancient secret descends on the land, etc. PCs do not get away with anything without it coming back to them. |
