| Prince_of_Parkness10-08-07, 06:46 AM | I was running a solo campeign (i specialize in these) that was going along fine. My PC was a vampire and had levels in an homebred obceinly overpowered class. Now some other players want to join. I dont really want to start a new game with them, and they want to a join an existinf group so they have an expirienced PC to save them when they faul up. The only realistsic option is for them to then to join up with vampire dude. Problem is, this game is focused around him, his vampirism and his ability to take levels in the Desciple of Blooded Fangs class. His ECL is roughly=lv of DoBF (currently 8)*1.5+8 for being a vampire. If the new ones join, they wud have to be on level 20 to make it fair. This then robs him of his glory. He been adventuring with 11th level NPCs until now just to fill up the gaps in his class abilties, so if they new characters replace the current NPCs they would either be equal to mr bloody fangs, which would ruin the campeign, or well below him which will make it unfun for them. Is there a solution to this aside from telling them I cant really host a game for them? |
| Ace_of_time10-08-07, 07:22 AM | You could make him the bad guy and keep your PC and have you and the new player be the good guys fighting to defeat this vamp menace. (when they reach the right power level) They would never really have too fight even just have the good guy trying to stop the plans of the bad and him/her slip away into the night right before they caught him but still manage to stop his plans. |

By expirienced, i ment they wanted to play with someone who's played before. Someone who's good at tactics and can give them tips to optomise. They need this since they're new. If they all become vampires, he wont be unique anymore, which has been the center point of this solo campeigh. |
| Ace_of_time10-08-07, 08:16 AM | Would you be the DM or is some else DMing your solo Camp. |
| Zavia10-08-07, 08:24 AM | ask the vamp to dm something? |
| Karish10-08-07, 08:30 AM | Your best option is to just DM a new campaign for the group, honestly. Solo campaigns are meant to stay solo usually, unless used as some sort of introduction into a group play for a newer member. |
| trapspringer10-08-07, 08:43 AM | Agree. Just run a new campaign. Hell, let it take place in the same "world" as your old one and allow the events of your solo-game to influence the new game. This keep your old player feelin' special 'cause he'll "get it" and you can revisit how bad-ass his old character was. Plus it's so much easier for a world to feel "alive" when it's already fleshed out for you. |

As has been mentioned at least three times: run a new game. If the experienced player gets to play a "unique" vampire, the other PCs will quickly get bored. They'll be nothing but side acts in a game centered around him. That will be absolutely no fun for them. Make a new game and start them all on equal footing. If you still like the vampire game, run it on a different night. |
| Prince_of_Parkness10-08-07, 07:41 PM | If you still like the vampire game, run it on a different night. I do want to keep the vampire game. Im kinda pressed for time so i cant really start another game on a seperate night. I think the only option I have is to tell them I cant DM them, though i was hoping there was a way around it |

Start a new campaign in the same world with your experienced player and the new players. In this campaign, the PCs hear all about this badass vampire. This will make your experienced player happy knowing that his old character is still out there causing terror. Then when you want to take a break from this campaign, bust out your vampire game again. Honestly, it sounds to me like you're looking for a reason to tell these new players to get lost. What's the matter? Don't you want to share your game with others? |
| Voran10-08-07, 08:20 PM | Forgive me if this analogy doesn't really work: You're scrambling up some eggs for your breakfast. Then 3 of your roomies come around and want eggs too. Do you throw new eggs into the batch you're already scrambling, or do you make a new batch afterwards? I'm gathering your solo campaign is balanced 'as is', adding more players, rather than starting anew, is kinda like when you goto a restaurant, get your coffee just the right way you like it with ratios of cream/sugar, then to have the waitress dump another cup's worth into your mix. Sure you can find the ratio again, but its a hell of a pain in the ass. Better to make sure you finish that cup before the waitress comes around so you can start brand new mixing with the new coffee. |

| Magrus10-09-07, 01:22 PM | I would ask your current player what he wants out of the deal to be honest. Generally, having more players is more fun to an extent and a solo game can get slightly boring after a while. Maybe you can agree to wrap it up in a few sessions, and inform the new players that they will be included in a new game once you finish this one and plot a new one. Have them familiarize themselves with the rules, and attempt to make characters, on their own. If they can do this within the next few weeks without assistance from you, they should be fine. Have them meet up and do it together as a learning experience. You can then have a session to hammer out any problems, questions, etc while your current player makes a new character since it sounds like he knows what he is doing. He can fill in the gaps that the other players left. |
