I NEED A FRIGGIN CAMPAIGN! oh and um, I want to know since theres multi classing does it stop with only dual class can you have triple class quadruple class etc etc. |
| wordserpent04-15-05, 07:38 PM | I have been in this situation myself several times and this is what you do: Have them generate 1st level characters using 3d6 six times and DO NOT allow them to place the stats where they like. Forse them to take the rolls as they come and no re-rolling will be allowed (until that character dies). If their character's die, then have them roll up a new one using the same method. Next, only run modules. Don't create anything yourself. Use a pre-packaged D&D campaign setting and be as un-original as possible. Choose a region that is not Adventurer Friendly such as the Forgotton Realms' Cormyr or Sembia or better yet: RAVENLOFT and have the NPC's harass the PC's as much as possible. Finally: Use every B*ll-busting rule in the book including height and weight tables, encumberence, food and water for the players and their mounts. Your players should tire of this quickly enough and when one voices a complaint ask them if they think they could do better. Or... Simply explain to them that you are suffering from DM burnout and you need a break for a few weeks. |
| Dreaming_in_the_void04-15-05, 08:03 PM | When the guys (and/or girls) come over next saturday night, pull out Axis and Allies, have a six pack and just relax. Play a different game for a while. (D20 modern anyone?) |
| fatal error04-15-05, 08:08 PM | Have someone run a game of Toon! There's also an issue about dealing with GM burnout somewhere in the roleplaying tips weekly archives, link is in the sig. |
| PenderGrass04-15-05, 08:36 PM | I find that driving your cars at each other at 1 million MPH is the best solution to overcoming boredom. Well, asides from getting completely wasted on every drug and drink available on planet earth and then looking for the American Nexus in Las Vegas is always a good way to cure boredom as well. Or maybe your group and personal feelings tend towards seeing how long each of you can hold your breath until you pass out? Anyways, all kidding aside, follow other peoples' advice to get away from D&D for a while. Rent a movie and hang out, instead. Let your batteries recharge instead of forcing yourself to run something that you are burned-out on. :dragon: **** |
| Lord Ian Stark04-15-05, 09:56 PM | Best way to help change the feel for a game is play an all Goblin PC game or something like it. This changes the way you view the gameworld. You used to be the heroes. Now your just trying to survive another day in your pack cowering behind whoever is in charge. We just started playing an all Goblin game where we are the first of many followers of a Young Green Dragon. Right now our job is to find her treasure. (And basically don't make her mad so she doesn't eat one of us.) We had to designate a leader goblin amongst us that deals directly with her. So far the new leader hasn't been eaten yet. ;) |
| Lxarth04-15-05, 10:03 PM | Thats awesome Ian, it reminds me of a 2nd adventure called "Reversed Dungeon" where the PCs where Goblins at first, and then when you died it when to the next stag of playing Illithids, Beholders and things like that. Then it went to Demons and Liches and powerfull monsters like those, eventually you where killed by heroes. I never got to play it, but I do own it...and it seems really cool. And if you are all goblins how are you playing a Paladin...didn't you say thats all you play? |
| Lord Ian Stark04-15-05, 10:08 PM | And if you are all goblins how are you playing a Paladin...didn't you say thats all you play? LOL, Well normally. However, this time I am going the way of the Ranger. I will be doing the ranged combat styles and will eventually PrC in the Deepwood Sniper. Basically I will be riding a Worg raining arrows at the enemy when it's all said and done. The whole group is Evil too. A melee Goblin is a dead Goblin. Especially with all the Trolls & Giants in the area. Gotta love the 3.5 Ranger. ;) Oh I had Reverse Dungeon. Think I sold it on E-Bay. Never got a chance to run it, then we started 3rd edition and I am too lazy to convert stuff. :P |
| Kaligrad04-16-05, 01:06 AM | Ever try something other than D&D? There are other RPG's out there, some of which aren't even based on D20! ;) Or better yet, find another RPG, and convince one of the other players that that system is so much fun that only he can DM it. |
| Gnome_Dragon_Disciple04-16-05, 01:11 AM | Even switching campaign settings worked for me. I made the hop from Forgotten Realms to Eberron when I was getting bored with the same old Tolkien-meets-Arthur rehash and now I have ideas coming out of more orifices than I can anatomically explain... |
