| homey18810-16-05, 12:15 PM | this is a competition in a underground tower run by a bored high magic guild guild. the entrance fee is 500*ecl per person only one group is admmited per day each floor is a circular room with granite tile walls and floors protected abainst cheating(teleporting to lower floors)with a statue in the corner. the statue is a divination device that displays the scene of what happens in each floor.A srong iron door backed up with wall of force is on each end of the room. | Deluxe 247 G10-16-05, 12:39 PM | It sounds like a good enough idea for character development and "something to do", but think about it in a broader sense Why are the mages putting this event on? How did the mages get all of these guys? What will the mages do if someone dies in their dungeon? --And I'm sure someone will. If the mages went out and captured all this stuff, will an entrance fee of 200gp really cover that? And to stress, Why are the mages putting this event on? These were the questions that arose to me upon perusing your idea, and if you get get suitable answers for all of these questions, I think it'd turn out to be a pretty cool dungeon. Hope it helps, Eli |

| prettyripples10-16-05, 12:51 PM | The one that got me was the "2d6 time away". What, are the mages sitting at a table rolling some dice saying "Ok, we'll let him come back next Friday..."?! Or perhaps that's how long it takes them to forget your face... &Are your players going to meet any other parties down there? I wouldn't be surprised if they bumped into someone else on L8, for example... Deluxe, he answered your question. The wizards were bored. Please don't try to tell me that's not a good enough answer for you, if they weren't making dungeons they'd only be trying to destroy the world... which is what most wizards seem to do when they're bored. |
| homey18810-16-05, 12:54 PM | why? they were bored and decided to put up a test for people who think their tough. Im not sure how they got these guys, maybe it could be a plot hook(ex:the wizards are making deals with demon/devils/dragons/ect to capture monsters, in return they will attack celestia or something). If some one dies in there, maybe on of the clerics in the guild(it is now just a higher magic guild)will give them a discount on ressurection equal to half of their entrance fee. The entrance fee should be raised , maybe 500gp*character level per person? i'll change it so they only let in 1 group per day I'll change the time to 1 week Im glad you liked it, any ideas what floor the next boss, treasure, rest rooms should be on? |
| Bayne10-16-05, 04:19 PM | I knew someone who did something similar. The country was really a magocracy with the wizards running everything behind the scenes controlling the king. They used the dungeon as a test for new rulers whenever the current one died. Sending in groups of adventures and a month later seeing who was still alive. It was just a mini-campaign really for us to test our characters against a whole pile of monsters without needing to create a complex plot. A couple of things you could do are: You could have the wizards cast contigency on the adventures that teleports them out when they rech negative hit points. Though as this could reduce the actual threat of the encounters and thus should be compensated with less exp. Perhaps don't use any of the more intelligent creatures of the encounter table as it would be pretty weird running into a couple of dwarven warriors or some npcs down there. Maybe have the real reason behind why the wizards are creating this dungeon was to find a hero of legend who was foreseen in an acient monoscript. Similar to the sword in the stone, whoever could complete the whole thing was destined to save the world. |
