| Lord_Psathus06-04-06, 03:20 PM | I am a long-time Dungeon Master, this is my first campaign with this group. It is a group of five and it is VERY HARD to control them when the five are present. We are all in our 14s-15s in age and quite a few are very immature. Problems: The Muscled Whiner: One of my players says he has "problems" all the time and if we disagree or contradict him, he punches us. He has not drawn blood, but he can hurt people and if things don't go his way, he can get very angry. The Psycho: Completely immature, we house three of these. They disrupt the campaign and one of them are sometimes violent if we do ANYTHING to insult him. These two are very hard to work with and do the dumbest things. The Dice Manipulator: Most likely my best player, I know he fudges rolls when I'm not looking. Whenever I declare it, EVERY player with fight against me until I give in. Please, I am looking to find a way to fix these problems. |
| Shade_Damara06-04-06, 03:22 PM | Anyone that gets violent needs to be removed from the group, its as simple as that. Honestly, from looking at your descriptions, I'd say you just need another group of players entirely. |
| utilitarian06-04-06, 03:22 PM | Stop DMing for these people. The issue you're describing go well beyond the game into fairly deep personal issues. If your players are actually VIOLENT as you've suggested thier problems are well beyond your responsability as a DM. |
| Lord_Psathus06-04-06, 03:24 PM | As you've both replied, only two of them get violent. Should I ban them and keep the other three? Or do you think they are beyond help. I don't have access to many players. |

You need to find a better one...if these retards like cheating and beating on each other, then they deserve each other. Find another group or at least lay down some strict rules about what kind of behavior is expected. |

It would be kind of hard to get new players but it might be worth it. |
| malignor06-04-06, 03:31 PM | Muscled Whiner: Some people need to realize that solving problems with your wits is better than with your fists. People who solve things with their fists are obviously too stupid and weak-minded to solve them any other way. Maybe he could try proving that he's not a stupid and weak-minded brute. Rumor has it that smart people become successful. stupid and weak-minded people generally do not. Psycho: People with this kind of energy and impatience should not be gaming. They should be out experimenting with drugs or trying to have sex with ... whatever they're attracted to. Or, if they can't take jokes or productive criticism, meybe they should go back to kindergarten where the teacher talk to them like babies "oooooh that's a goood little boy. You drew me a PICtuuure... let me guess what it is... on second thought, let's just put it up on the fridge." I suggest giving them crayons. Translation: unstable, unpredictable and violent people belong out there, away from you. Preferrably in an institution like prison or a mental ward. Dice Manipulator: I'm a in a group of people in their 20-30s and there's one of these in my group. Just ask that all rolls be made in front of you, and ask for a copy of everyone's character sheet "so you can design a better game around them" (and confirm the bonuses). Then you're not singling anyone out. No point embarassing the guy or he'll feel like crap, which won't solve anything. |

Wow, you've just given me a lot to think about, tommorow I'm going to hold a session with all five of them. So, if I can lay this down on them, they might stop and play. Thank you. |
| hmmmm06-04-06, 03:35 PM | You need another group badly. Esspecily if you have to play with some one who is violent. |
| The_Unfan06-04-06, 03:38 PM | Am I the only one who noticed an inconsistancy? First post: He had the muscled whiner and 3 psychos. Later on in the same post he notes "both gets violent" when talking about the psychos. So now a psycho dissappears. However, I'll assume this was a "misspeach in typing form" and what he meant to say is two of the psychos. Not concerned about the fudger at this point. Later on he notes that "only two get violent" which means that we either lost a psycho, or one of the psychos is also the muscled whiner and the other psycho lacks a complaint... |

There are five players: Elidar, Sarah, Avelios, Rulthos, and Arkeon Avelios is the Muscled Whiner Elidar, Arkeon and Sarah are psychos: Arkeon is a violent psycho but not a Muscled Whiner. Rulthos is a dice manipulator Does that make a bit more sense? |
| The_Unfan06-04-06, 03:53 PM | That's a bit more clear, yes. Thanks for clarifying. Yeah, I'd probably just ditch the group as a whole. It seems pretty much dead. |
| Atirakis06-04-06, 04:11 PM | When you game next here are the rules you need to lay down. 1. ANYONE who becomes violent will be considered unable to handle playing and asked to leave the group for good. 2. ANYONE caught manipulating dice will be penalized all XP for the adventure. If they protest that they didnt and you are unsure tell them that they have 1 and only 1 more chance, if you even think that they fudged after that they will be penalized 1 negative level. 3. Anyone who doesnt like these rules can find the door and a new DM. Hope that helps. |
| Operu06-04-06, 04:29 PM | I had responded to 3 Jerry Springer posts in the last 10 minutes... Dump these guys, and tell them never to play this game again, because they give us all a bad name. |
| The_Unfan06-04-06, 04:42 PM | I had responded to 3 Jerry Springer posts in the last 10 minutes... Dump these guys, and tell them never to play this game again, because they give us all a bad name. Having an elitest attitude gives us a bad name too. |
| Atirakis06-04-06, 05:11 PM | I dont think he meant it to sound elitist at all. I agree that people unable or unwilling to control themselves, in many differnt ways, gives RPGers a bad name. Yes within our group elitism can be a problem, but I would much rather argue with someone over the merits of core only vs splat than physically have to fight someone because they didnt get their way. |
| The_Unfan06-04-06, 05:18 PM | I can't argue with that reasoning. On the other hand I think excluding a group of people from playing is fairly elitest, period. Not to say you personally have to play with them, but telling them not to play because they didn't fit into a certain play group is pretty harsh. |
| Atirakis06-04-06, 05:24 PM | attacking someone cause you didnt get your way means that you shouldnt even be out on the street, let alone playing D&D. You want to play it in jail with the rest of the morons, then go right ahead. If players like that gamed with me they would get a world class beat down and then I would kill off their characters. I dont tolerate morons and nobody else should either. |

Now on to an actual reply. I fail to see why D&D can't be a learning experience. Perhaps through gaming he could learn team work or something. It's not likely, but it could happen. Also, finding players who are tolerant of idiocy is probably possible. Although I am with you on not actually tolerating it, I don't think my attitude torwards it should apply to other people. If someone has the patience for that kind of person than good for them. |
| Atirakis06-04-06, 05:37 PM | Well spoken. I must admit I wasnt sure of what to think of you at first, but I can see that you are ummm not like alot of people (trying to put it nicely) I have to agree that playing in jail might fit them better. Also maybe if they ran their own game with just those who wish to be violent. It could be fun. Throwing books and dice at eachother, stabbing eachother with pencils, fun things like that. On the other hand I think the OP and most people here want a friendly, fun game that doesnt include violence and or fear or violence. Personally I have had 1 player who tended to be a bit of a whiner and could threaten when he didnt get his way. I tried working with him on it but in the end he just had to go. He is a good friend of many of my players (and used to be mine too, but thats another story) and even they agreed that he shouldnt game with us. Try weeding out the offending players 1 by 1 in order of severity and cycling in new players that might bring more to your game than their fists. |

| Atirakis06-04-06, 05:51 PM | I was trying to say more intelligent than most without stooping to insulting others |
